Around a year ago, I went on vacation to France with my friends and we had a great time there. Before booking the holiday I was delighted to hear that they promised to save up enough money to enjoy themselves when they arrived there.

The cost of booking a week’s accommodation was around $300. And return flights cost $150. We really thought we had struck a bargain as we were going to stay at a backpacker’s location. We were even more delighted when we heard the cost of living would be cheaper when we got there. We decided to save up $1000 each, which meant that we would have more than enough spending money when we arrived.

I never expected that France would be such an excellent skiing destination. Sure, there are the Alps, but I had thought these were only the playgrounds for expert skiers. How wrong I was! There are simply loads of different places in France you can go, regardless of your skiing ability, and you are almost guaranteed (保证) to have a great time. The facilities (设施) there are also out of this world. It is really a great place to go skiing.

We chose France for our vacation, but there are loads of great European ski resorts. If you’re looking for a great time, go to Europe to experience a wholly different way of life and skiing that is simply second to none. Check out your travel agent for good deals, and remember that the more flexible you are, the cheaper your holiday will be. You can avoid peak times, which means you can avoid peak prices. Do you want to explore Mayan ruins in the jungle of Belize? If so, read on.

First, before starting any exploration, you should gather as much information as you can about the territory, its climate conditions, the people you will get in contact with as well as possible encounters with animals, diseases or even plants. All these information is important.

Belize’s jungles can be very dense. This particular trip will be pretty extreme. It will be necessary to be physically fit and in good health to accomplish it. I would always recommend seeing a physician before visiting any foreign country to obtain a professional opinion.

Choose to travel during the dry season. This is a very wise decision according to my personal experience. You will probably avoid most climate difficulties. During the dry season, the terrain (地势) will be less effort-demanding, humidity (湿度) will be under control, mosquitoes will be much less and snakes tend to stay away from tracks.

Once you have a good idea of the territory you are going to, the next step is to pack wisely. You must keep in mind that very useless things will be too energy-demanding. You really want to keep it simple but not too simple because it can put you in danger. Bring a journal and keep a journal. You will use a compass, measuring ropes, and bright markers. On this trip you will be wearing comfortable hiking shoes. Wear long pants and a cotton shirt. Bring hats with a neck guard. No underwear.

Maintaining a correct mental attitude is extremely important. A trip like this will require a positive attitude, mental toughness, and determination. At times you cannot see beyond 6 feet in any direction and you begin to think, “What lies beyond those 6 fee t? An animal? A ruin? A cliff?” You always have to expect the unexpected in the jungle. Rules don’t exist there.

36. Before going to the jungle of Belize, the first step is to ______.

A. get in touch with people there

B. choose the correct destination

C. know about conditions and customs there

D. know about our health and required package

37. From Paragraph 3, we can learn that ______.

A. it’s advisable to hav e medical opinions from doctors

B. physical examinations are done in a foreign country

C. this is a particular and pretty trip in our life

D. extreme weathers can be found all the way

38. What’s the writer’s attitude towards the Belize trip during the dry season?

A. Worried.

B. Supportive.

C. Indifferent.

D. Against.

39. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?

A. Pack as few things as possible.

B. Wear comfortable clothes for the trip.

C. Avoid getting too tired during the trip.

D. Choose wisely the equipment you will carry.

40. In the last paragraph, it’s concluded that .

A. we should bring something that can help us look far

B. we should follow rules while in the jungle of Belize

C. we should keep both mentally positive and behaviorally realistic

D. we should have not only a strong toughness but also a firm determination

Scientists have known the genetic (基因的) code of sheep to uncover how they became a different species from goats four million years ago. The study is the first to find out the genetic formation that makes sheep different from other animals.

The findings could help the development of DNA testing to speed up selective breeding programs, helping farmers to improve their sheep. The research finds out the genes that give sheep their wool and uncovers features of their digestion system, which makes them so well-suited to a diet of low quality grass and other plants. It also shows genes that support the work of the stomach that breaks down plant material to make it ready for digestion. Further studies could find diseases that affect sheep.

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, which receives help from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, were part of a global team that had studied the genome sequence —the entire genetic make-up —of sheep for the first time. This team compared the sheep’s genes with those of other animals including humans, cattle, goats and pigs. The study finds out several genes that have something to do with wool production.

This research done by 26 research groups in eight different countries was led by researchers from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Australia; BGI and the Kunming Institute of Zoology, China; Utah State University and Baylor College of Medicine in the US and The Roslin Institute. They gave a lot of information, including information that genes are expressed in 40 different tissues (组织). The study paper was published in the magazine Science.

Professor Alan Archibald at the Roslin Institute said, “Sheep were one of the first animals to be raised and are still an important part of the global agricultural economy. Understanding more about their genetic make-up will help us to breed healthier and more productive wool.”

41. Which one of the following is NOT true?
