第一节阅读理解(共12小题,每小题2.5分,共30分)

“It takes an entire village to raise a child.” That’s an old proverb(谚语) that is being quoted more and more often these days. And I’m pleased about that.

Today, more and more schools are reaching out to involve parents, community members and businesses to help shape a child’s future.

Parents need to be involved in their children’s education in many ways. Helping children with hom ework and studying, going on a field trip, teaching a craft or coaching a child’s sports team are all great ways to be involved with your child’s education. And don’t forget to communicate with teachers---they need and respect your input. Studies show that children learn more and schools function better when parents and schools work together. It’s important to stay in touch with your child’s education all through his or her school career.

Communities can help children create and achieve new goals. Help with homework, read to a child, coach a children’s team, or provide emotional support. Help solve problems and build self-esteem. Kids need role models and advisers can be role models by sharing their experiences and wisdom.

Businesses can also help shape our children’s future. Invite a class from your local school to visit your workplace. You may be providing a glimpse that opens a new world of possibilities. Show students what goes on during a typical day. Give a mini course for students:how to use a

computer; how products are made; how machinery works. You may have a developing electrician, teacher, nurse, or even a newspaper reporter on your hands.

It really does take an entire village to raise a child. So share the responsibility and the joy of bringing a child to his or her full potential.

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son:suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.

Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up(蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time i s which.”

Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds. “In fact, parents are first on the list,” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years,” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”

Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

5. “The door to his room is always shut” in the first paragraph suggests that the son ______.

A. is always busy with his studies

B. doesn’t want to be disturbed

C. keeps himself away from his parents

D. begins to dislike his parents

6. What makes Tina and Mark worried most is that ______________.

A. their daughter isn’t as lovely as before

B. they can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly

C. they don’t know what they will say to their daughter

D. their daughter talks with them only when she is in need of help

7. What’s the meaning of “the wall of silence” in the last paragraph?

A. Teenagers talk a lot with their friends.

B. Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.

C. Teenagers talk little about their own lives.

D. Teenagers do not want to understand their parents.

8. From the passage, we can conclude that______.

A. Parents are not satisfied with their growing children.

B. Parents have appropriate ways to talk with their teenagers.

C. Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers.

D. Parents should try to understand their teenagers.

第四节短文改错(共10题,每小题1分,满分10分)

Three years ago I failed a important exam in my life and became a student in an ordinary school. Disappointing as I felt at the shabby campus and the poorly-equipped classroom, we found the teachers patient and considerate. Besides, I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere on class.

I decided to make best of it. I work hard and got along well with my teachers and classmates. Whenever I had difficulties, they were not helpful. Soon, I became one of the top student in my class, which greatly increased my confident and got me motivated.

My experience tells me that it is not what you are given but how you make use of it which determines who you are.

Kids’ health:Four steps for fighting stress

Everybody gets stressed from time to time. 36 Some ways of dealing with stress—like screaming or hitting someone—don’t solve mu ch. But other ways, like talking to someone

you trust, can lead you to solving your problem or at least feeling better.

Try taking these four steps the next time you are stressed:

(1)Get support. When you need help, reach out to the people who care about you. Talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent or other relatives. 37 They might have had similar problems, such as dealing with a test, or the death of a beloved pet.

(2)Don’t take it out on yourself. Sometimes when kids are stressed and upset t hey take it out on themselves. Oh, dear, that’s not a good idea. Remember that there are always people to help you. Don’t take it out on yourself. 38

(3)Try to solve the problem. After you’re calm and you have support from adults and friends, it’s time to get down to business. 39 Even if you can’t solve it all, you can solve a piece of it.

(4)Be positive. Most stress is temporary (暂时的). Remember stress does go away, especially when you figure out the problem and start working on solving it.

These steps aren’t magic, but they do work. And if you can stay positive as you make your way through a tough time, you’ll help yourself feel better even faster. 40

A. Ask for a helping hand to get you through the tough situation.

B. Notice y our friends’ feelings and find a way to help them.

C. Different people get rid of stress in different ways.

D. Ah, it feels so good when the stress is gone.

E. You need to figure out what the problem is.

F. And don’t forget about your friends.

G. Then, find a way to calm down.
