Do you sometimes find it hard to make yourself properly understood by others? If you do, why do you think it is hard? It is very difficult for people to understand one a nother if they do not share the same experiences. Of course, we all share the experience of being human, but there are many experiences which we do not share and which are different for all of us. It is these different experiences that make up what is called ―culture‖in the social sciences - the habits of everyday life, the cues to which people respond, the automatic reactions they have to whatever they see and hear. These often differ, and the differences may introduce misunderstandings where we seek understanding. Reading I Intercultural Communication:An Introduction

小学英语五年级下册《Unit 1 This Is My Day 》

PEP(供三年级起始用)五年级下册Unit 1 This Is My Day B Read and Write 【教学设计说明】 在小学英语教学中,符合学生知识层次、认知特点和年龄特征的阅读训练是不可或缺的部分。 What do you do on the weekend? Usually I watch TV and go shopping. Sometimes I visit my grandparents. I often play football. Sometimes I go hiking;能够听、说、认读句子:The weather report says it’s going to rain tomorrow. I can’t play football in the rain. I can’t go hiking, either;能够运用所学词汇、句子谈论表达周末活动;能够正确朗读语篇、获取语篇的信息,在阅读的基础上进行仿说仿写。 What do Zip and Zoom do on the weekend? What do they usually/often/sometimes do on the weekend?和Can they play football or go hiking this weekend? Can they play football or go hiking this weekend?

Unit 1 PART Ⅱ FOCUS Denotation and Connotation Suggested answer to the question If it is your teacher, most probably you will choose b, as the word portly has an implication of a more or less dignified and imposing appearance (e.g. an elderly gentleman, large and portly). However, if it is a doorkeeper, an amiable middle-aged woman, you may choose the word plump as it implies a pleasing fullness of figure (e.g. the plump goddesses of Renaissance paintings). From this exercise we can conclude that words that share the same denotative meanings can be diverse in their connotative meanings. Reference for the Classroom Activities 1.father: the male parent.
