In the dusky twilight, colorful clouds hang over the bank where the river turns. They are so mixed with the colors of the sky that one can hardly tell the flowing clouds from the running river.

Just by the side of this fascinating picture, some sheep, with their heads bent low, are grazing on the grassland along the bank of the river, almost none of them willing to spare a minute to look up at this beautiful evening scene. Perhaps they have to hurry up to have their last chew before being driven home. This is the scene on the Yellow River bend. Not seen there, the shepherd must be resting in somewhere we don’t know, leaving these creatures here alone to enjoy the evening freely. The grass here is abundant and the sheep are all well-fed, strong and fat. If you approach them, you can see their white shining teeth and their simple but expressive faces as well.

I can’t think of anyone I know who doesn’t have a pocket telephone. Such a person would look strange and need to give a reason. Our social relations are all stored in the memory system of the phone and can be retrieved whenever they are needed. In ancient times only those witches would have such a “magic”.

The pocket telephone has altered our interpersonal relations. In most cases we would see a notice at the door of the meeting room which reads: Keep your phone off please. However, the phone rings were still heard one after another. We are ordinary people and usually we don’t have many urgent things to handle. Yet we still don’t turn off our phone. Keeping the phones on means we are still in touch with the world. This indicates that we all have a certain “thirst for socialization”. Such a scene is very common now: someone may suddenly stop his steps to look closely at his phone screen and write a short message for somebody, disregarding where s/he is, whether in the road or just beside a toilet room.

Why do we mind those phone calls and short messages so much? Because we are so eager to keep connected with the world.

Friendship is maintained on basis of mutual respect; it allows no coercion, interference or dominance. Those who have similar interests and temperament would come together and become friends, and those who have not would stay away from each other without communication. No matter how familiar and how intimate they are, friends should not be too informal with each other without respect. Otherwise, the harmony and balance between them would be lost, and they would be no friends any longer. Everyone hopes to have some room for his or her own privacy, but the over-informality among friends might destroy this forbidden space, causing conflict and distance. Perhaps showing no respect for friends is itself only a small matter, but it could have become a destructive seed which will finally end a friendship some day. Therefore, the best way to maintain friendship is to treat each other on equal terms and respect each other’s privacy.

In the modern society, one is often quite contradictory in his decision to take a certain kind of value or lifestyle. The most embarrassing moment is that, when confronting with such a contradiction, he often can do nothing but to accept passively what is offered to him. To live busily and to live lazily are two quite different lifestyles, but in the real life we often have to swing between them, and sometimes we ourselves can’t tell clearly whether we are at leisure or we are being busy! Suppose that you were enjoying your holidays in a resort, when you suddenly received a call from your boss, telling you that something went wrong with your customer or job!
