Do people travel to the other side of the globe until a one-year-old baby? Is it a smart idea? I wonder if I was crazy. I had various adventures—hut this trip would be different. This South American adventure would be a unique life experience of mine. I had given up many activities in order to please a little person, because Anders’ needs had to come first. At 30 years old, it was a difficult change for me, and I was occasionally annoyed when I realized that my son had taken away so many things from me.

Argentina is a long way from my home. It was even longer when I was on the plane and sharing a seal with

such an active little boy, but Anders and I made it without angering any other passengers or getting any dirty looks. And we look a rest on a regular schedule.

I wanted to do some hikes in Argentina and drive ten hours to the coast to see penguins. However, when I thought about my travel partner, I gave up these ideas. Instead, we just hung out by lakes, picking up stones and throwing them in the water. I took short hikes, running with Anders in die backpack, knowing that I had two hours before his tolerance gave out and the complaining started.

I discovered that traveling with a baby opens new doors that aren’t there for a solo traveler or couple. Ander s helped me to slow down and look at the landscape closely. I got to see Argentina through someone else’s eyes. T he travel ing wasn’t as fast-paced as it would have been if I had been alone, but the details were amazing. Now I just have to absorb that insight into our life back home.

24.What was the change for the author when she turned 30? ________

B.They shared a seat with each other.

C.They enjoyed a very pleasant flight.

D.They couldn’t tolerate other passengers.

A.Her baby didn’t like th em.

B.Her baby’s tolerance gave out.

C.She desired more interesting activities.

27.What does the author suggest travelers do in the end? ________

A.Travel with a baby.

More than 2.6 million students in the United States were expected to study online through courses and tutoring fall, up from 1.9 million in 2003.according to an online research group.

Burck Smith, chief executive of Smarthinking, credits the rise in demand for online educational to services to several factors. These include an increase in the number of non-traditional students who don’t have a lot of time to campus resources, a more competitive educational landscape in which colleges and schools are trying harder to

students with additional services and students greater familiarity with the Internet.

Terry H. Coye, director of tutorial and instructional programs at Gallaudet University, said his school turned to Smarthinking to increase its limited tutoring services for graduate students. With many of Gallaudte’s deaf and hard of hearing students accustomed to learning online, the service was a good fit, Coye said.

Founded in 1999, Sniarthinking employs more than 450 part-time instructors from around the world to offer round-clock tutoring. Though people might worry that a student could get too much help from someone outside the class-room, the company said it trains its tutors—who get an average of 15 hours of training—to guide students through problems and not give away the answers.

“Long-term, there is no reason to believe online tutoring is no! Going to grow as students go online and take c lasses,” said J. Mark Jackson, director of a market-research firm. Because it is additional service rather than a key offering, he said, it is unclear how large the market might grow.

28.Which of the following is a cause of the demand for online educational services? ________

A.Students improved ability to use the Internet.

B.Colleges need for students additional services.

D.Students’ adjustment lo online learning.

30.What worries peoples about online tutoring? ________

A.Students1 unwillingness to get help in the class.

B.Tutors’ lack of training from the company.

C.Students’ easy access to the right answers.

D.Tutors’ not giving away the answers.

A.Worried.

B.Hopeful.

C.Proud.

D.Doubtful.

Patients trust health professionals as a source of advice on behavior change. However, many health professionals dodge giving advice on that. They find traditional behavior change strategies(方法) time-consuming to explain. Besides, it’s difficult for the patient to achieve. Furthermore, even when patients successfully start the recommended changes, the gains are often short-lived because few of the traditional behavior change strategies

have built-in mechanisms for maintenance(保持).

Meanwhile, brief advice is usually based on advising patients on what to change and why (for example, reducing fat intake lo reduce the risk of heart attack). Psychologically, such advice can be followed only if conscious motivation is engaged. However, the effects are typically short-Jived because motivation and attention will decline. Brief advice on how to change, engaging automatic processes, may offer a valuable alternative with potential for long-term influence—habit.

Within psychology, we define “habits” as actions that are caused automatically in response to reminders. These reminders have been associated with performances. For example, automatically washing hands after using the toilet. Decades of psychological research consistently show that mere repetition of a simple action in a consistent context leads to the action being activated upon .following exposure to those contextual cues(环境暗示). Once starting of the action goes to outside reminders, dependence on conscious attention or motivational processes is reduced. Therefore habits are likely to remain even after conscious motivation or interest disappears. 32.Which word can best replace the underl ined word “dodge” in Paragraph 1? ________

A.Risk.

B.Avoid.

C.Appreciate.

D.Admit.

33.What plays the key role in patients’ taking advice? ________

A.Reasons to change.

B.Ways to change.

C.Increasing attention.

D.Intended motivation.

34.What may help to keep habits after interest disappears? ________

A.Outside reminders.

B.Mere repetition.

C.Conscious attention.

D.Brief advice.

35.What is the passage mainly about? ________

A.Motivation to form habits.

B.Conflicts between patients and professionals.

C.Habits to change behavior.

D.Advice from professionals to patients.

An Introduction to Pre-reading

When reading some material, many readers would like to focus on the first line of it and read it through from beginning to end. This is not an efficient way of reading. Actually, experienced readers do pre-reading before reading it. Pre-reading is a technique that allows readers to become familiar with the material to be read before beginning to read it thoroughly. 36 It provides readers with a mental outline of the content of the material. ?What is the purpose of pre-reading?

Pre-reading involves getting a quick impression or overview of what you are going to read before beginning to read. It allows you to know about the basic content and organization of the material before you read it. 37 ?Why is pre-reading effective?

First, pre-reading helps you to become concentrated on what you will read. Through pre-reading you become interested and involved in the material and get basic information about the content of the article. 38 Second, pre-reading provides you with a mental outline of the material you are going to read. 39 With this outline already in mind, you are able to read the chapter more easily.

?40

You may use the technique of pre-reading before you read any materials, when you read just for an overview of a material, or when you select materials for a specific purpose (e. g. writing a paper, preparing a research report, etc.). Don’t think that pre-reading will waste your time. In fact, you just spend a few minutes on pre-reading, which will help you save a lot of time and make your actual reading fast and easy.

A.When do you apply pre-reading?

B.Does pre-reading waste our study time?

C.The technique involves checking specific parts of an article, a chapter or a book.

D.Thus, you will be able to read faster and follow the auth or’s thought more easily.

E.You begin to expect the outline of the material and see the relationships of topics.

F.In other words, pre-reading focuses your attention on the content of the reading material.

G.For example, while reading the headings of a chapter, you are forming a mental outline of the chapter.

2018届上海市各高中学校高三英语试题分类汇编--阅读理解B篇(带答案精确校对)

Section B Directions:Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Netflix is estimated to spend $150m a year on a single application and the total bills is probably four times that once all its uses of the technology are taken into account. Another problem for many non-technology companies is talent.Of the computer science experts who use Kaggle, only about 1000 have deep learning skills, compared to 100,000 who can apply other machine learning techniques, says Mr Goldbloom. He adds that even some big companies of this type are often reluctant to expend their pay scales to hire the top talent in this field. A third barrier to adapting to the coming era of “smart” applications, however, is likely to be
