Though marriage is practiced in almost all countries of the world, the customs are quite different from one culture to another. It is interesting for me to compare the customs of marriage in the United States with those in my country.

I?ve lived in the U.S. for four years now, but I?m still not comfortable with the customs here. In fact, what seems strange to me is that courting or dating is not always for the purpose of finding a husband or wife. Some people seem to do it as a hobby.

This book was written by Aford. It shows our future and also shows our serious environmental affairs. We are cutting down the trees, using medicals and also destroying balance as well. The earth is turning slwer and slower. Everyone is afraid of the spring like that —— withour flowers in the sun, without fishes in the river. We must stand as one and save the earth, to return our human beings a new spring. Thanks to QUIET SPRING as a warning bell to us. It’ s a meaning and also my favourite book.

III. Reading Comprehension (40%) Section A: Passage 1

With the coming of the television age and the increasing emphasis on pictures and sound in all quarters of our society, many people would have us believe that we are moving rapidly away from reading as a necessary life skill. But this is not the case at all. Many people simply skip over words they do not understand. This, naturally, hurts their overall comprehension. Other people stop at each new word and look it up in the dictionary, but this method can slow down your reading, affecting concentration and comprehension.

But you can build your vocabulary with using a dictionary each time. Here are two rules: 1. Pause for a moment on each new word and let it register in your mind.

2. Try to guess what the word means from context clues, from the words around it.

What happens with this method is that you will see the word again and again. Each time you will have a stronger impression of the meaning. Soon, the word will be familiar and its meaning clear. The k ey to the method is to be alert to new words. Don?t skip over them. You?ll find you are adding to your vocabulary each day and a good strong vocabulary is a great help to reading quickly and with strong comprehension. Good reading habits like these can help students and working adults alike to be more successful. The special works of school and the real world of school and of everyday life can be more comfortable, productive and rewarding with the addition of simple yet important life skills such as good reading habits.

Divorce rates have markedly increased in many countries since World War II and in some countries have been on the increase since the early 20th century. Attitudes toward divorce have changed dramatically in this period, with the general trend toward tolerance of the practice. Although the statistics are highly variable for overall rates, a number of correlations can be drawn between divorce and other factors.

Third, divorce rates vary according to the family cycle itself. Many studies have pointed to the fact that the longer a couple has been married, the more likely it is to remain so. Divorce rates are highest among the young, and, if a marriage survives its first few years, there is an increased likelihood that it will continue. Another factor often cited is the presence of children as a deterrent to divorce. Empirical studies have shown, however, that this factor is much less significant than commonly believed.

A lot of people?s whole lives would change if they did just that.” The author declares that interpersonal relations should be taught as a required course in every school, along with reading, writing, and mathematics. Section A: The are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is provided with some questions followed by 4 choices marked A, B, C, and D. Decide on the one that best answers those questions.

Passage 1

“Family”—the word has different meanings for different people, and even the dictionary gives us several definitions: “a group of people r elated by blood or marriage,” “two adults and their children,” “all those people descended from a common ancestor,” “ a household,” and so on. Some people think of a family as a mother, a father, and their children; others include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. For some of us, family means the group of relatives living far away from home. For others, having a family simply means having children. Some families have long histories, while others know very little about their ancestors. No matter if it is young or old, large or small, traditional or modern, every family has a sense of what a family is. It is that feeling of belonging, of love and security that comes from living together, helping and sharing.

What will be the result of this “splitting” of the nuclear family? Social scientists now talk of two new family forms: the single parent family and the remarried family. Almost 20% of all American families are single parent families, and in 85% of these families the single parent is the mother. Most single parents find it very difficult to take care of a family alone, so they soon marry again and form remarried families. As social scientists study these two new family forms, they will be able to tell us more about the future of the nuclear family in the post-industrial age. 51. Which family is usually the largest family? B. The extended family.

52. What is the one thing shared by all families no matter in what sense the word “family” is understood?B The feeling of belonging, love and security.

53. The nuclear families of an extended family do not live together today for __D change of the society makes it necessary for people to go out looking for a job _______.

In the same way, vegetable oil can be used for cooking instead of animal oil.

Echo, my favourite teacher, is a pretty and slim lady. One of the most important reason that I like her is that she is very sincere. When she talks to others, she always has a smile on her face.

I think Echo is a natural teacher because she has a lot of good methods on teaching. She is not only quite friendly ,but also humorous. Her class is full of fun that you have never feel bored. To improve our grades, she usually gives us some advices about how to learn English well. What’s more, she sacrificed her own time to help every student, no thought of gain .Sometimes, she nearly has no time to have lunch. When I ask her questions, she must spare no effort to make me understand, with patience and care. I have never seen such a good teacher as her before.

A good teacher can point out the direction and give you endless strength when you get into trouble. I’m lucky enough to have such a good teacher present to my life. Echo has a great influence on me. I'm thankful her help very much.

【命题形式】这类题主要是针对who, what, which, why, how, when, where等来提问的。如: 1.Which of the following statements is true/NOT true/false, according to the passage? 2. Which of the following statements is (not) correct? 3. In the passage, which of the following is mentioned / not mentioned? 4. All the following statements are not true except ______. 5. All the statements are true except______. 6. Choose the right order of the events given in the passage? 7. When/Where did the story happen? 了解这些题目的设计特点对正确解题有一定帮助。一般来说,设计这些题目时,编题者常常会换用不同的词、词组、短语、句型、或其它不同的表达方式来表达文段中某一相应的词、词组、短语、句型或表

高考英语阅读理解试题经典及解析

高考英语阅读理解试题经典及解析 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 When times get tough, we all look for ways to cut back. When we're hungry, we eat at home instead of going out. We take buses instead of taxis. And we wear our old designer jeans just a few months longer. With college expenses at all-time highs, high school students are eager to do anything to cut the cost of a university education. One cost-cutting proposal is to allow college students to get a bachelor's degree in three years instead of four. Educational institutions have been actively exploring ways to make the learning process more efficient. But there's a question: Would the quality of undergraduate education suffer? Few US universities have formally approved a "three-year degree" model. I doubt that mainstream North American colleges will carry out a three-year curriculum any time soon. For one thing, most universities already allow highly qualified students to graduate early by testing out of certain classes and obtaining a number of college credits. In addition, at famous universities, the committee who determine which courses are required and which courses are electives are unlikely to suddenly "throw out" one quarter of the required credits. Professors will resist "diluting (稀释)" the quality of the education they offer. In my opinion, a quality four-year education is always superior to a quality three-year education. A college education requires sufficient time for a student to become skilled in their major and do coursework in fields outside their major. It is not a good idea to water down education, any more than it's not a good idea to water down medicine. If we want to help students find their way through university, we should help them understand early on what knowledge and skills they need to have upon graduation. We should allow students to test out of as many courses as possible. We should give them a chance to earn money as interns (实习生) in meaningful part-time jobs that relate to their university studies, such as the five-year co-op program at Northeastern University. (1)Which of the following can best sum up the main idea? A.It's time to shorten the learning process. B.Best learning takes place over time. C.University education should be watered down. D.College education calls for reform. (2)We can learn from the passage that ________. A.most American universities are against the "three-year degree" model B.many famous US universities are considering adopting the "three-year degree" model C.professors are willing to accept the "three-year degree" model D.The "three-year degree" model can make college learning more efficient (3)In most US universities, ________. A.college students are offered the co-op program B.electives' credits make up one quarter of the required credits C.all students are required to finish four-year education before graduation D.some excellent students can graduate ahead of time

高考英语阅读理解细节理解类型题

1.题型特点与命题方式 所谓细节题,是指原文提到了某事物、现象或理论,题干针对原文具体叙述本身发问。一般包括直接理解题(在原文中可直接找到答案,常用who, what, when, where, why和how等提问。)、语义转化题(需要将题目信息与原文相关信息进行语义上的转换,两者存在表达上的差异,有时需要进行加工或整理后方能得出结论)、数字计算题、排列顺序题、图表图画题等 抓住文段中的事实和细节是做好该题型的关键,也是做好其他类型问题的基础。这类题型的题干常为: When / Where did the story happen? Which of the following statements is (NOT) correct? Which of the following statements is (NOT) mentioned in the passage? Which is the right order of the events given in the passage? All the statements are true EXCEPT…

57. According to the passage, the ancestors of the Potter family most probably 【2010上海】70.. As is mentioned in the card, the limitation of the research paper mainly lies in that (2)分散型:题目涉及到文章某一段或几段,甚至贯穿全文的各个位置,需要考生寻找文章中的多个细节。请注意,分散型细节理解题并不意味着题目的正确答案出现在文章的不同位置,正确答案往往也是关于文章的某一个句子或细节。只是说文章的干扰选项是关于不同的细节,需要我们在定位的时候阅读某一个区域。分散型细节理解题常见的出题方式有: Which of the following is not true? We can learn/infer from the passage that… Which of the follow ing is NOT mentioned about …? 也有因题而异的,有些看似集中的其实也分散在文中,需要考生仔细定位。如: 【2010江苏】61. Some people are against killing wolves because . C Food sometimes gets poisoned with harmful things. A person who eats such food can get an illness called food poisoning. Food poisoning is usually not serious, but some types are deadly, The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within hours of eating the poisoned food. Fever is one of the most common symptoms. Certain microorganisms (微生物) cause most types of food poisoning. Bacteria and other microorganisms can poison eggs, meat, vegetables, and many other foods. After entering the body, these tiny living things release (释放) poisons that make people sick. Some chemicals can also cause food poisoning. They are often added to food while it is being grown, processed, or prepaid. For example, many farmers spray chemicals on crops to kill weeds and insects. Some people may have a bad reaction to those chemicals when they eat the crops. Some plants and animals contain natural poisons that are harmful to people. These include certain kinds of seafood, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, and mushrooms. When people handle food properly, the risk of food poisoning is very small Microorganisms multiply rapidly in dirty places and in warm temperatures. This means that people should never touch food with ditty hands or put food on unwashed surfaces. Food should be kept in a refrigerator to stop microorganisms from gnawing. Meat needs to be cooked thoroughly to kill any dangerous microorganisms. People should also wash food covered with chemicals before eating it. Finally, people should not eat raid mushrooms or other foods that
