U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Discovers Flexibility and Control with Leviton’s SectorFlex System

Leviton’s SectorFlex Intelligent Digital Lighting Control System provided a flexible solution to integrate with the SEC’s retrofit project. Both new and existing components were utilized to meet the customer’s goals of lighting usage control and energy savings.

The Customer

The U.S. Securities and Exchange

Commission oversees the key participants in the securities world, including securities exchanges, securities brokers and dealers, investment advisors, and mutual funds.

The Challenge

The SEC leased four floors of space in an established building and required a lighting control system capable of occupancy

sensing, daylight harvesting, and time based control. Additionally, scene capabilities in the conference rooms were required.

The Solution

To best meet their project requirements, the SectorFlex solution was chosen. SectorFlex allowed occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, time based control, and integration of scene control. The initial

design used LED fixtures, which the Sector Relay is capable of driving with the 0-10VDC driver. During the value engineering process the LED option was changed to fluorescent. The flexibility of SectorFlex allowed for this change with no system redesign required. To provide the SEC with their desired scene control, a Dimensions ? D4200 Controller was specified. The protocol for the D4200 is Luma-Net; the Sector system uses the LumaCAN protocol. A LumaCAN Gateway was installed to convert the protocols, providing seamless system integration.

The Results

The flexibility of SectorFlex allowed the

specified system to be connected to existing components from other manufacturers seamlessly to achieve the desired system requirements without additional equipment costs. The ease of installation due to the flexibility of the 2-wire signal buss provided a time and cost savings with the electrical contractor.
