2014高考英语阅读理解专题训练极品题(1)及答案

[2013·广东卷] ----

One day, when I was working as a psychologist in England,an adolescent boy showed up in my office. It was David. He kept walking up and down restlessly, his face pale, and his hands shaking slightly. His head teacher had referred him to me. “This boy has lost his family,” he wrote. “He is understandably very sad and refuses to talk to others, and I'm very worried about him. Can you help?”

I looked at David and showed him to a chair. How could I help him? There are problems psychology doesn't have the answer to, and which no words can describe. Sometimes the best thing one can do is to listen openly and sympathetically.

The first two times we met, David didn't say a word. He sat there, only looking up to look at the children's drawings on the wall behind me. I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that he played chess with me every Wednesday afternoon—in complete silence and without looking at me. It's not easy to cheat in chess, but I admit I made sure David won once or twice.

Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chess board and pieces from the shelf and began setting them up before I even got a chance to sit down. It seemed as if he enjoyed my company. But why did he never look at me?

“Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with,”I thought. “Perhaps he senses that I respect his suffering.”Some months later, when we were playing chess, he looked up at me suddenly.

“It's your turn,” he said.

After that day, David started talking. He got friends in school and joined a bicycle club. He wrote to me a few times, about his biking with some friends, and about his plan to get into university. Now he had really started to live his own life.

Maybe I gave David something. But I also learned that one—without any words—can reach out to another person. All it takes is a hug, a shoulder to cry on, a friendly touch, and an ear that listens.

人文地理类

(2013·重庆,D)Not all bodies of water are so evidently alive as the Atlantic Ocean,an S-shaped body of water covering 33 million square miles. The Atlantic has,in a sense, replaced the Mediterranean as the inland sea of Western civilization.Unlike real inland seas, which seem strangely still, the Atlantic is rich in oceanic liveliness. It is perhaps not surprising that its vitality has been much written about by ancient poets.

“Storm at Sea”,a short poem written around 700,is generally regarded as one of mankind's earliest artistic representations of the Atlantic.

When the w ind is from the w est

All the w a v es that cannot rest

To the east must thunder on

Where the bright tree of the sun

Is rooted in the ocean's breast.

As the poem suggests, the Atlantic is never dead and dull.It is an ocean that moves, impressively and endlessly. It makes all kinds of noise—it is forever thundering, boiling, crashing, and whistling.

It is easy to imagine the Atlantic trying to draw breath-perhaps not so noticeably out in mid-ocean,but where it meets land, its waters bathing up and down a sandy beach. It mimics(模仿)nearly perfectly the steady breathing of a living creature. It is filled with symbiotic existences, too:unimaginable quantities of

creatures, little and large alike, mix within its depths in a kind of oceanic harmony, giving to the waters a feeling of heartbeat,a kind of sub-ocean vitality. And it has a psychology. It has personalities:sometimes peaceful and pleasant,on rare occasions rough and wild;always it is strong and striking.

9.Unlike real inland seas, the Atlantic Ocean is ________.

A.always energetic B.lacking in liveliness

C.shaped like a square D.favored by ancient poets

解析细节理解题。从第一段中的“Unlike real inland seas, which seem strangely still, the Atlantic is rich in oceanic liveliness.”可知,liveliness(精力充沛,活跃)与energetic近义,故答案为A项。

答案 A

10.What is the purpose of using the poem “Storm at Sea” in the passage?

A.To describe the movement of the waves.

B.To show the strength of the storm.

C.To represent the power of the ocean.

D.To prove the vastness of the sea.

解析推理判断题。从诗歌下面的一段“As the poem suggests, the Atlantic is never dead and dull.It is an ocean that moves, impressively and endlessly. It makes all kinds of noise-it is forever thundering, boiling, crashing, and whistling.”可知,这首诗主要向我们描述了海洋的强大力量。

答案 C

11.What does the underlined word “symbiotic” mean?

A.Living together. B.Growing fast.

C.Moving harmoniously. D.Breathing peacefully.

解析词义猜测题。划线单词所在的句子后边用了冒号,后边的内容是对前边句子的解释,从下文“unimaginable quantities of creatures, little and large alike, mix within its depths in a kind of oceanic harmony”中的mix within等字眼可知,划线单词意为“共生的”,故A项符合要求。

答案 A

12.In the last paragraph, the Atlantic is compared to ________.

A.a beautiful and poetic place

B.a flesh and blood person

C.a wonderful world

D.a lovely animal

解析推理判断题。从最后一句“It has personalities:sometimes peaceful and pleasant,on rare occasions rough and wild;always it is strong and striking.”中可以看出,大西洋有个性:有时安静,有时野蛮等,把这些用来描绘人的词汇用来描写大西洋,所以此处把大西洋比喻成了一个有血有肉的人。

答案 B

To err is human. To blame the other guy is even more human.

Common sense is not all that common.

Why tell the truth when you can come up with a good excuse?

These three popular misquotes (戏谑的引语) are meant to be jokes, and yet they tell us a lot about human nature. To err, or to make mistakes, is indeed a part of being human, but it seems that most people don’t want to accept the responsibility for having made a mistake. They naturally look for someone else who could be responsible for the problem. Perhaps it is the natural thing to do. The original quote about human nature went like this:“To err is human, to forgive, divine (神圣的).” This saying mirrors an ideal:people should be forgiving of others’ mistakes. Instead, we tend to do the opposite—find someone else to pass the blame on to. However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a mark of great maturity.

Common sense is what we call clear thought. Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan. Common sense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm, but you leave the umbrella home when you hear a weather forecast for sunshine. Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everyth ing. People say that in a large company, “the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing."

And what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art? One of the common problems with making excuses is that people, especially young people, get the idea that it’s okay not to be totally honest all the time. There is a corollary (直接推论) to that:if a good excuse is“good” even if it isn’t honest, then where is the place of the truth?

1. According to the passage, which of the following seems the most human?

A. To search for truth.

B. To achieve one’s ideal.

C. To make fun of others’ mistakes.

D. To criticize others for one’s own error.

2. According to the author, what is a sign of a man’s maturity?

A. Doing things his own way.

B. Bearing responsibility for his mistakes.

C. Making as few mistakes as possible.

D. Thinking seriously about his wrongdoings.

3. Which of the following is NOT based on common sense?

A. A man tries to take charge of everything in a large company.

B. A student goes out with an umbrella in stormy weather.

C. A company’s next move follows a good plan.

D. A lawyer acts on fine judgments.

4. What is the author’s opinion about a good excuse?

A. Making a good excuse is sometimes a better policy.

B. Inventing a good excuse needs creative ideas.

C. A good excuse is as rewarding as honesty.

D. Bitter truth is better than a good excuse.

5. What would be the best title for this passage?

A. A Mirror of Human Nature

B. To Blame or to Forgive

C. A Mark of Maturity

D. Truth of Excuse

C5[2013·广东卷] ----D

While Jennifer was at home taking an online exam for her business law class, a monitor(监控器)a few hundred miles away was watching her every move.

Using a web camera equipped in Jennifer's Los Angeles apartment, the monitor in Phoenix tracked how frequently her eyes moved from the computer screen and listened for the secret sounds of a possible helper in the room. Her Internet access was locked—remotely—to prevent Internet searches, and her typing style was analyzed to make sure she was who she said she was: Did she enter her student number at the same speed as she had in the past? Or was she slowing down?

In the battle against cheating, this is the cutting_edge and a key to encourage honesty in the booming field of online education. The technology gives trust to the entire system, to the institution and to online education in general. Only with solid measures against cheating, experts say, can Internet universities show that their exams and diplomas are valid—that students haven't just searched the Internet to get the right answers.

Although online classes have existed for more than a decade, the concern over cheating has become sharper in the last year wit h the growth of “open online courses.” Private colleges, public universities and corporations are jumping into the online education field, spending millions of dollars to attract potential students, while also taking steps to help guarantee honesty at a distance.

Aside from the web cameras, a number of other high-tech methods are becoming increasingly popular. Among them are programs that check students' identities using personal information, such as the telephone numbers they once used.

Other programs can produce unique exams by drawing on a large list of questions and can recognize possible cheaters by analyzing whether difficult test questions are answered at the same speed as easy ones. As in many university classes, term papers are scanned against some large Internet data banks for cheating.

41.Why was Jennifer watched in an online exam?

A.To correct her typing mistakes.

B.To find her secrets in the room.

C.To prevent her from slowing down.

D.To keep her from dishonest behaviors.

42.The underlined expression cutting edge in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.A.advanced technique

B.sharpening tool

C.effective rule

D.dividing line

43.For Internet universities, exams and diplomas will be valid if ________.

A.they can attract potential students

B.they can defeat academic cheating

C.they offer students online help

D.they offer many online courses

44.Some programs can find out possible cheaters by ________.

A.checking the question answering speed

B.producing a large number of questions

C.scanning the Internet test questions

D.giving difficult test questions

45.Which of the following is the best title of this passage?

A.The Advantages of Online Exams

B.The High-tech Methods in Online Courses

C.The Fight Against Cheating in Online Education

D.The War Against the Booming of Online Education
