先进溶剂、添加剂与电解液的性能优化

先进溶剂、添加剂与电解液的性能优化

锂离子电池(LIB)电解液由电解质锂盐、有机溶剂和添加剂配制而成。电解质锂盐是提供锂离子的源泉,保证电池在充放电循环过程中有足够的锂离子在正负极来回往返,是电解液的核心组成,而有机溶剂和添加剂对电解液的性能优化也有重大影响。

有机溶剂是电解液的主体部分,电解质锂盐和添加剂溶解于溶剂中。目前常用的溶剂有环状碳酸酯(PC、EC),链状碳酸酯(DEC、DMC、EMC)和羧酸酯类。每种溶剂各有优缺点,在生产实践中常会采用两种或两种以上溶剂按照一定比例进行混合,以实现均衡的性能。

添加剂具有针对性强、用量小的特点,能在基本不提高生产成本、不改变生产工艺的情况下,显著改善电池的某些宏观性能。目前常用的添加剂主要包括以下种类:成膜添加剂、过充保护添加剂、阻燃添加剂、控制电解液中H2O和HF含量的添加剂、提高电导率添加剂和提升高低温性能添加剂等。

大部分溶剂和添加剂都已实现商品化,可以市场采购。通过不同溶剂和添加剂的组合,可以生产出适用于不同场合的功能型电解液,例如高温型电解液、低温型电解液,防过充型电解液、阻燃型电解液和动力型电解液等。

新型溶剂和添加剂的研究与开发已经成为锂离子电池研究中一个活跃的领域,并在国内外取得了进展。通过引入新型溶剂和添加剂,不断改进配方,生产出性能更优秀的电解液,迎合锂电池行业不断提升的技术要求,是电解液生产商保持竞争力的核心所在。

2012中国锂电池电解液研讨会将于11月8-9日在苏州召开。来自锂电池电解液行业的资深专家将做《先进溶剂、添加剂与电解液的性能优化》的主题报告。

Advanced Solvents, Additives and Improvement of Electrolytes

In lithium ion battery (LIB), electrolytes are usually formulated by a lithium salt, organic solvents and additives. Lithium salt is the source for lithium ion, to ensure enough Li ions back and forth between the electrodes, forming discharging and recharging cycles. It is therefore the core component of the electrolytes. However organic solvents and additives may also apply important effect on the performance of electrolytes.

Organic solvent is the main body of electrolytes, as the lithium salt and additives shall be dissolved in the solvent. Currently common used solvents are cyclic carbonate esters (PC, EC), linear chain carbonate esters (DEC, DMC, EMC) and carboxylic esters. Every solvent has its own advantages and disadvantages, and in production practice usually two or more solvents shall be blended in certain proportions to realize balanced performances.

Additives have the feature of high target pertinence and smaller usage, which can make significant improvement of some macroscopic battery performances without major cost increase and change of the manufacturing process. Commonly used additives include

mainly the following types: filming additives, over-recharging protecting agent, flame retardants, additives to control H2O and HF content in electrolytes, and additives to improve electric conductivity and extreme temperature performances etc.

Most of solvents and additives are now produced in commercial scale and market available. Through the combination of different solvents and additives, functional electrolytes fitting to individual application cases can be formulated, such as high-temp and low-temp electrolytes, over-recharging protecting, flame retardant, and power battery used type etc.

Today, study on novel types of solvents and additives has become an active field in LIB R&D works, and achieved many progresses both in China and abroad. By introduction of new solvents and additives and continuous formula improvement, to produce electrolyte of better performance meeting with increasingly higher technical requirements of LIB industry, is the core emphasis for electrolytes producers to keep their competition position.

2012 China LIB Electrolytes Conference will be held on 8-9 November in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. In the upcoming conference, expert from LIB Electrolytes industry will deliver a speech on Advanced Solvents, Additives and Improvement of Electrolytes.
