Standards for Undergraduate Admission

Freshman Student:

Undergraduate applicants may be accepted for admission by submitting official evidence from at least one of the criteria below. Students with less than 24 transfer credits must meet at least one of the following admission standards:

1. Secondary (high school) transcript, documenting no less than 75% of the coursework needed for degree completion, with an unweighted

grade point average (GPA) of 2.25 or above

a. Degree-bearing transcript must be submitted when conferred

b. If final transcript negatively impacts admissibility, acceptance status may be withdrawn or modified to include specifications

2. Degree-bearing, secondary (high school) transcript with an unweighted GPA of 2.25 or above

3. Passing scores of 520 (2002 Series or later) on the tests of General Education Development (GED); and transcripts of all credit-bearing

course work

4. Average of 15% above the minimum passing scores (tests preceding 2002 Series) on the tests of GED; and transcripts of all credit-

bearing course work

5. Composite score of 19 or above on the ACT; and a degree-bearing, secondary (high school and/or GED) transcript

6. Composite score of 920 or above on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT); and a degree-bearing, secondary (high school and/or

GED) transcript

Transfer Student:

Students with 24 or more transferable credits may be accepted to the University if they [meet at least one of] the following admission standards:

1. 24-59 undergraduate credits with an unweighted GPA of

2.25 or above

2. 60 or more undergraduate credits with an unweighted GPA of 2.00 or above

3. Degree-bearing associate’s transcript with an unweighted GPA of 2.00 or above

The term “transferable” is defined in the Evaluation of Transfer Credit section of the Catalog.

Second Degree Bachelor:

Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from GCU, or another institution, but are interested in pursuing a second bachelor’s degree, may be accepted to one of the undergraduate degree programs if they meet the minimum admission standard of an unweighted GPA of 2.00 or above.

Standards for Graduate Admission:

Applicants to the graduate programs may be accepted for admission by meeting one of the criteria specified below.

1. Undergraduate degree from an accredited, GCU-approved college, university, or program with a GPA of

2.8 or better on the degree-

The Application for Admission is a tool for the University to assess the academic capabilities of each applicant interested in attending. Of further note, meeting the minimum requirements for admission does not guarantee admission to Grand Canyon University.

Submit original documentation of financial guarantee, showing that you have the funds to cover the costs of your education for at least 2 semesters. If a sponsor will cover the expenses of your education, submit an affidavit of support from your sponsor.

Prior to registration for classes, submit a deposit of $6000, which will apply toward the tuition of the first academic year.

If you wish to participate in athletic programs, contact the Grand Canyon University Athletic Eligibility Coordinator to

determine the eligibility requirements for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes.

To ensure the accuracy of your I-20 document, submit a copy of your passport or birth certificate.

Transcript records must be mailed directly from the issuing school to the Office of Academic Records. Transcripts mailed or hand- carried by applicants are unacceptable unless they are delivered in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution.

Financial Aid Application Procedures:

If you choose financial aid as a method of payment, you must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA online at https://www.wendangku.net/doc/942194175.html, Indicate your intent to attend Grand Canyon University on the FAFSA by using our six-digit school code (001074).

Completion of the FAFSA is the first step in determining your eligibility for federal grants, loans, and student employment. Once your financial aid application has been processed, you will receive an award letter from the GCU Financial Aid Office with instructions for completing the additional steps.

I accept responsibility for any balance unpaid by Financial Aid, Direct Bill agreement, or resulting from a returned check or credit card. A $50.00 fee will be charged for all returned checks. I understand that I am liable for all charges incurred after the date of this agreement. Failure to pay debt as agreed may result in withdrawal from Grand Canyon University. If it becomes necessary to enforce payment of this account, attorney’s fees, court costs, and collection agency fees may be added to the amount owed. Grand Canyon University retains a security interest in all transcripts, diplomas, certificates, letters of recommendation, and grade reports which may not be released until debts are paid in full. I understand that the University may report to any credit bureau on credit granted and/or on any account delinquencies.

Arizona House Bill 2050, effective June 1990, states the following: “The Department of Education shall not issue…certification of a person who has been convicted of any of the criminal offenses prescribed or of a similar offense in another jurisdiction.” Those criminal offenses include sexual abuse of a minor, incest, first or second degree murder, kidnapping, arson, sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, commercial sexual exploitation of a minor, felony offenses involving distribution of marijuana or dangerous or narcotic drugs, burglary, robbery, a dangerous crime against children as defined in Section 15-604.01, child abuse, sexual conduct with a minor, molestation of a child, voluntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault.
