BS 1363

13A plugs, socket-outlet, adaptor and connection unit.

Comprises four parts:

-Part 1: Rewirable and non-rewirable 13 A fuse plug

-Part 2: Switched and unswitch socket-outlets

-Part 3: Adaptor

-Part 4: 13A fused connection unit: switched and unswitched

Objective

To provide a set of requirements and tests which are considered to be generally applicable to most types of purposes in a.c. circuits only, operated at voltages not exceeding 250V r.m.s. at 50Hz.

For example:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Clause 5 – General condition for type testing

All test should be type tests.

At ambient temperature of 20?C±5?C.

Need conditioning the samples at normal laboratory temperature and humidity levels for 4 days.

If one of three samples fails in a complete sequence, it should be passed if another set of three samples were all complied.

The tests are follow the table of “Schedule of test”.

Clause 7 – marking and labelling

Trade mark

Part 1:

●BS1363 or BS1363/A

●Fuse mark

●Rated current for rewirable plug and fuse current for non-rewiable

●Wiring instruction

Part 2:

●Rated current, voltage and nature of supply

●BS1363 for fixed socket-outlet and BS1363/A for portable socket-outlet

●Fixed fused multiple socket-outlet should mark “MAX 13A” on engagement

surface.

●Wiring instruction for portable socket-outlet.

Part 3:

●Fuse , Fused or on external accessible surface.

●Rated voltage and nature of supply

●“SHA VERS ONLY” mark on accessible external surface for shaver adaptor. Part 4:

●Fuse , Fused or on external accessible surface or fuse carrier.

●Rated current, voltage , nature of supply, incoming terminal and outgoing

terminal.

Clause 7.1.1

Rubbing test

●15s – water

●15s – hexane

Compliance is checked by

●Legible

Clause 16 – Temperature Rise

The test carried out at rated voltage +10%, -20%

All terminal screw should be tightened a torque equal to 2/3 of the value from table. The thermocouples are attached by means of a mixture of equal parts of resin adhexive and zine oxide.

The heating is operated as described for a minimum continuous period of 4 Hr or longer until stability reached with maximum duration of 8 Hr, stability being taken as less than 1K rise within 1 Hr.

Part 1:

Tested in a test cabinet.

Limit: line pin spacer 37K

Neutral pin space 37K

Terminal and termination 52K

Accessible external surface 52K

Notes: For fused plug, the fuse is replaced by calibrated link.

Part 2:

Limit: terminal and termination 52K

Accessible external surface 52K

Note: The plug for the socket is replaced by calibrated test plug. Part 3:

Note: 1) The plug for the socket is replaced by calibrated test plug.

2) For fused Adaptor, the fuse is replaced by calibrated link.

Limit: line pin spacer 37K

Neutral pin space 37K

Terminal and termination 52K

Accessible external surface 52K

Limit: terminal and termination 52K

Accessible external surface 52K

Notes: For fused connection unit, the fuse is replaced by calibrated link.

Clause 18 – Normal operation

Part 2, 3:

15,000 times make and break test for socket-outlet. (change a new plug for each 5,000 times)

Part 2, 3, 4:

15,000 times make and break test for switch

Clause 20 – Mechanical strength

Part 1, 2, 3:

Tumbling barrel Test:

For rewirable plugs marked BS1363: 1000drops

For non-rewirable plug marked BS1363: 2500drops

For marked BS1363/A: 5000drops

For rewirable <=2 gangs portable socket-outlet 5000drops

For adaptor 25drops

Should no external damage and no components have become detached. Earthing pin terminal screw not less than 70% of the original tightening torque. No loosen for live part.

Comply the temperature rise test.

Part 2, 3, 4:

Pendulum test:

For all the tests the hammer falls from a height 150mm measured vertically between the point on the sample and face of the hammer at the point of release.

Ten blows of the hammer is applied.

Crack not visible with normal or corrected vision without addition magnification.

Part 2:

Dropping test:

For >2gangs rewirable portable socket-outlet and non-rewirable socket-outlet.

The sample is held so that the cable is approximately horizontal and then it is allowed to fall on to a concrete floor eight times, the flexible cord being rotated through approximately 45 at its fixing each time.

-After the test, the socket-outlet should no external damage which may affect the safety, and no components should have become detached.

-Electrical strength

-Temperature rise test
