They're getting better; they often alert us of any suspicious activity on and off campus.

UT Austin has its own police department. They have a program that allows students to have one amnesty call, and the police will go and help you if you're at a party and can't drive home for example. They want to make sure that everyone is safe, not so much as give tickets to those who aren't supposed to be at events as mentioned.

The most crimes that occur on campus are thefts. Sexual assaults do occur but UT is taking the innitiative of BeVocal to create a much safer environment.

On campus is very safe. Downtown is more dangerous, and west campus can be dangerous too Overall, I have felt safe with my possessions on campus.

The health services are easy to access and easy to use. The staff is very supportive and caring. The crime on campus is minimal. There are panic buttons all across campus to alert the police if necessary. The police are constantly patrolling. I have walked home by myself at 1 in the morning and I am a single female. You can go running at night and do not have to worry. The areas around campus are safe as well. They are where most of the students live off campus.

UT is very focused on healthy options and providing ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Police officers scattered around campus at all times. No reason to be afraid on campus. Campus crime is a very real aspect of any college campus and UT is not an exception. Often I hear of thefts such as phones, computers, or bikes; however, what I find more threatening is the late night walks around campus or where most students live right off campus in "West Campus". It's not uncommon to hear strangers, sometimes students sometimes not, yelling something or walking in unnecessarily close proximity; therefore, I try to avoid walks late at night alone.

There are police call station every few feet. The campus is well lit at night and safety is assured.

I have never witnessed or experienced a crime of any type on campus.

They have little things across campus so that you can easily contact police if necessary.

It is not any worse than anywhere else.

It is not soo visible. Mostly on the drag.

UT police and Austin are great. When there was a shooter on campus they acted promptly. There are self-defense seminars for women that are totally accessible for anyone who wants to take them. UT police has a visible presence on campus making sure students are safe.

UT Austin is a known party school. They're party scene must be pretty bad if they're making it required for students to do Alcohol Edu, a educational and interactive learning module where you learn about the effects of alcohol, in the duration of their freshman year.

While Non-students on campus are my largest concern, the Campus Police Dept does a fantastic job of deterring most roaming non-students.

I have always felt safe on campus, and the health services are amazing with free condoms, convenient pharmacy, and lots of education on how to be safe.

One thing I can't stand is potheads, and they seem to be somewhat rare at UT, or maybe just because I don't notice. They do exist though, but drinking is far more common. Almost everyone I know drinks, and who can blame them with the party and nightlife options we have available? Drinking and driving is a bit of a problem though but initiatives like the e-Bus and Safe Ride Home are helping a lot.

I feel safe, but some people, especially freshman, don't.

Alcohol is easily available, and I think marijuana is too. Peer pressure isn't too much of a problem though - neither of my roommates drink, and they still have fun at parties where everyone else is

drinking.

There are ways to get drugs and alcohol if you really want them. Just like any other place in the United States and the world. However, the students at the University of Texas at Austin are responsible for the most part and I think it isn't as big as a problem like in other schools.

I never feel threatened on campus, so I guess they are doing their job.

People are free to make their own decisions regarding drugs and alcohol. The options and access are there, however there are plenty of other options to have a fun time!

I never hear of much campus crime and am rarely concerned about my safety.

There is a pretty large amount of alcohol visibility about students at the school. Drugs are not visible in the open for the population of the school to see.

I don't live on campus, but I live very close, and it seems to me that the surrounding area, the immediate area is very safe overall, and I get the same feeling about that on campus as well. for a school this size there is very little incident.

I never feel threatened while on campus.

On most weekends at night, you can smell the drugs and alcohol coming off of people who are returning from parties. Peer pressure associated with drugs isn't really common, but at most parties, drinking is pretty much required to have fun.

We have a big campus, so I don't expect there to be a police officer on every corner. Walking home very late, however, is sometimes a bit frightening. Nothing in particular has happened that makes me scared, and I would say that I feel more comfortable walking around the UT campus than I would anywhere else.

At Texas, most people respect others' choices and don't flip out if people are different for whatever reason.

We have organizations such as "sure walk" that will give you an escort home after studying late, and there are police poles all over campus that you can press if you feel you are in danger. There are many other resources as well.

Though I feel moderately comfortable walking around campus at night, I would appreciate slightly higher security presence on campus.

The campus is pretty much downtown so there are a lot of visitors and homeless people but as long as your careful, it'll be fine

I personally do not notice drug use but I know it's there.

The drug scene is very high on campus and often talked about among eachother

If I'm walking around campus in broad daylight, I can't complain about safety. Sure, there aren't many campus police around (we have those?!) but I feel like there isn't anything to worry about in daylight. Students are too busy with the hustle and bustle of their own lives during the day. At night however, things get a little on the scary side. There are plenty of people coming from the nightclubs into their dorms and it's just doesn't seem too safe to me.

I constantly see my peers drinking, and it's not just visible drinking, but underage drinking being posted on social media profiles. The kids are honestly out of control. I don't drink to the extent that most of my peers do, and I never will. I see how they treat people who don't drink (like me) and I never want to result to be that kind of person. There needs to be more control. I'd prefer it be the self control of students, but if authorities need to step in, I'm not complaining.

Lots of people drink, a good amount of people smoke weed. I have friends that don't drink or smoke, and they have no problem.

As long as you are smart about walking around campus, it is very safe. Walk in groups and avoid listening to music while walking so you can be aware of your surroundings. A downside is that bikes are very commonly stolen here at UT.

There is a lot of peer pressure from different groups of people to drink alcohol.

Based on the people I hang around, not a lot of them get drunk on the weekdays and if they do drink/do drugs they're smart about it, so that they aren't incapacitated the next day. And they make sure that they can still function in class.

I haven't heard of any sexual assault or anything like that, but as a personal safety precaution I carry pepper spray on me.

Drinking and drugs are pretty prevalent but no one judges you for not partaking in any of it. People of course get loud with alcohol and Austin being a liberal place, marijuana is abundant but it is not something you see on the daily or be bothered with

They do a great job of reminding you and I have not waited a long time and they are accurate with their procedures.

The Greek Life is very big on UT campus. Every weekend West Campus (where the frat houses are located) are spilling over with drunk kids stumbling off to their next party. Weed isn't hard to find either. It's Austin. You could ask a homeless guy and he'd know where to find it.

The campus is large and has a great number of daily visitors who do not go to the school. Homeless people live close to the campus and can be bothersome on the walk to class. I make it a point to get home before it gets dark out, or I have a friend to walk with if I know that I will be staying late. They have services that will accompany home as well as phone lines throughout campus if you need to call 911. Overall campus safety is taken seriously and generally pretty good.

UT requires an alcohol education course before you enter school which many people find helpful. Also if you don't want to do anything you don't have too.

There are walking buddies and other things to help you feel safe.

You dont really see it unless you go to a party or on the streets during the weekends.

I do not do drugs, so I am not sure about this question.

Usually alcohol consumption happens off campus, and people just come back to the dorms drunk.

I am sure many people drink in their rooms but you don't really see it unless you are partaking in it. I've never seen alcohol as an issue. There are many people who smoke marijuana occasionally, you see it at parties, but once again, probably not going to happen while they are actually on campus, and nothing I'm too concerned with. The way I see it, we are adults now, if you don't want to do something, don't do it. Peer pressure is for high school.

Campus always seems to be consistently safe. When it gets dark, there are constantly police cruising around campus. All pathways are very well-lit. There is even a number you can call to request someone walk you home if you find yourself alone in the middle of the night. I have never heard of a dorm getting robbed here, all doors to dorm areas are key card protected. Emergency phones are everywhere, yellow and easily visible with a bright blue light atop each one. There are occasionally drunk students coming in at night, especially if you live in a large dorm, but I've found them all to be quite harmless and usually accompanied by a friend who is their drunk babysitter. Truthfully, I feel much safer on campus than in my neighborhood of my hometown.

A lot of people drink and UT has a reputation of a party school. HOWEVER, deciding not to drink or do drugs is well-respected, generally. It's also pretty easy to stay away from areas with drug and alcohol problems (AKA West Campus). If you do decide to drink or do drugs, there are a fair number

of options to stay safe, including a "night owl" bus that is available until very late at night for students as well as "safe ride" programs that can drive you around in an emergency. There are also drug and alcohol counselors who can give you advice on how to stay safe while engaging in less than legal activities.

As a big campus, there is a relatively large amount of criminal activities. The campus area itself is very safe and healthy and I have walked through campus alone very late at night. Beware of West Campus though, which is where most criminal activities occur.

The staff is helpful but the medical team doesn't seem to be the most knowledgeable on issues. They seem to focus on mostly typical college student health problems and not much else. Although drugs, weed in particular, are a huge deal on campus for students. UT does a great job in its efforts to educate kids about the dangers and takes steps to ensure the students are safe even if they are caught using.

The safety and security on campus are the best. There are emergency posts all over campus. Although I never feel unsafe on campus it is nice to know that they are there just in case I need them. I don't have to worry about my dorm getting broken into because it is a safe place to live. There are cameras in the dorm.

I never feel completely unsafe on campus. There are always people roaming around and I generally feel comfortable walking alone at night.

Campus security is ok. There are however problems with safety in nearby west campus where many students live. There have been multiple abductions this year and sexual assaults. In my opinion, if you walk in multiples and carry pepper spray you will be fine. These incidents have all occurred at night.

Safety on campus is decent, definitely not the best it could be..especially since the murder of one of our students last semester. Generally, walking around campus feels safe, there are a lot of people, cops are often on patrol, there are police call stations, as well as student organizations that will accompany you home is you feel unsafe. The times to be wary are if you're walking through shaded areas of campus, like on San Jacinto, at night, in West Campus because of Greek-life parties and the homeless population, and on the drag due to the large amount of homeless people. Most are generally non-violent but be careful.

No drinking is visible on campus, it mainly takes place in west campus by the apartments. Law enforcement is incredibly lenient to anyone who isn't creating a public disturbance.

I don't feel safe at night...

It's college... It's hard to monitor the use of drugs, but I think it's a somewhat big of an issue at UT.

I do not engage in any of these things and I don't really ever see/hear about it. I'm sure if you get in with certain groups of people it would be much more visible.

I don't really hear about much crimes happening. I feel pretty safe unless it's very late at night. It's easy to contact police if you ever feel like you are in danger. Also can call for people to walk you from one place to another at night if you feel like you will be unsafe.

Many kids partake in drugs and alcohol at parties. It's fairly easy to access these substances. UTPD and UT itself have safety guidelines in place and stress the importance of getting help for alcohol poisoning without punishment for underage drinking- safety is their priority.

There are many organizations concerned with student safety. UTPD and countless other services are available to aid students.

My campus does a really good job securing the students

hmmm, I haven't noticed the police but I knew they were around. I always feel safe, even at night. Love this school!

Aside from pot and drinking at parties, I haven't seen any big drug scene here.

I've never felt in danger in anyway, or even nervous here. Probably because there are so many students walking around, even at night.

I got sick, and was able to talk to one of the physicians who helped a lot. The only sign of campus police that I've seen so far, though, are those little Police poles. You push a button ans they're supposed to come help you. A girl got snatched on 22nd a few weeks ago, and that was scary as hell.

I mean the only illegal drug I've seen people use is marijuana. Of course people underage drink (including myself), but i feel like that's to be expected on all college campuses.

There are quite a few drug users at this school, but most of them only do it on the weekend and it's usually something like marijuana. Not too many hard drug stories surface, as far as I'm aware. West campus is where are the Greek houses are, and every weekend there are parties everywhere. Late at night you will run into various groups of intoxicated students, whether they are of age or not. The only problem I have with it is it's annoying to walk through. I don't see a presence on campus of any of the other drugs mentioned.

We have safety escort services.

There's no one here to babysit you so if you drink, you drink; if you don't, you don't. If you make it clear that you don't consume alcohol, then people will leave you alone and not pressure you into it (for the most part). If you respect their decision to drink they will more than likely respect your decision not to.

We have daily emails from UTPD that send out the crime report from that day and they say where crime has been most active. They trying to keep everyone safe.

I see a lot of people drinking.

The student services building is in a relatively central area on campus and offers just about any type of health care you would need. There are police call boxes located all over campus.

I have no problems with health or safety.

A lot of people drink on and off campus but this is like any other school.

There are plenty of services, but not any of them are particularly great.

They don't actively encourage or discourage anything.

Alcohol is available but you are not looked at differently if you do not use it.

UT has many systems in place to assure that students are safe on campus. Many campus hotlines are available 24/7 and a SURE walk system is in place that if a student is going to walk alone they can call SURE walk to have a group of students to come walk with them

Drug and alcohol visibility only at parties, not on campus. UT is a smoke-free campus. The Geek Life it what contributes to most of the drug and alcohol scenes.

exceptional health/mental health centers. A lot of support networks for stress, but not much advertisements of sexual assault support.

Such issues are a major intro during orientation

Because it's a college campus, there is alcohol everywhere, but most students respect you if you don't want to drink.

High quality. Always available to students in need.

Usage of drugs is never seen at least by me

The campus feels very safe and nothing seems threatening.

There are smoke shops and bars around campus and there are numerous students that are underage drinkers, but UTPD can be very effective at keeping order and keeping the campus safe. The Health and Safety on campus is phenomenal! No criticisms whatsoever!

The security on campus is great but given that were in a very populous city there is never enough security to make one feel completely secure, but its definatly enough to keep inner peace. Everywhere on campus there are police phones and a buddy walking program. I feel really safe if I'm alone in the middle of the night.

I don't tend to see the campus police but I have their number incase its an emergency. Also the campus has these yellow poles that can contact the police right away if you push the button and that are located all over campus.

Students at campus don't usually drink or use drugs.

Although we are a diverse university, there have been some instances were there has been challenges between different cultures. The police/president of the university try and fix the issues but it is more so done by the students. I feel that it is slightly more important for students to stand up for what they believe in and try to make a difference.

I have yet to be in the situation where I need to visit the Health & Safety center, but I've only heard good things about the place.

There are safety risks on campus, but that's what comes with living in the middle of a thriving city in addition to newly-freed college students. Your safety is dependent upon the choices you make so it's possible to completely avoid dangers.

There is not a lot if drug used and the alcohol consumption is very limited to underage students. Campus security is always there and willing to help if you ask, however walking alone at night is scary considering you are in the heart of Austin and at times there are non-students on campus. Healthy Horns does a really great job.

There isn't as much security on campus during the night and there are areas that don't have any at all so it's still iffy.

There are programs and emergency information sent to students through email.

I have not heard about anyone being attacked or robbed on campus yet this year Occasionally, some campus crime slips off them.

I feel surprisingly safe and secure for it being a campus in the middle of a city. They really do a good job.

The party scene is there if you want it, but will stay in west campus if you don't. The best of both worlds. I always feel safe, and UTPD has a great presence on campus and will take care of any issues. Although our school is notorious for the partying and drinking scene, as a current student, I very rarely see any incidents of drug and alcohol consumption on campus. Our campus has a good program that warns students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and we have great law enforcement on the campus.

Never had drugs but I am still happy!

I've heard that people do drugs, but I'm not involved in that scene, so I don't know much about it. There are these emergency poles all around campus. You can press the button and police will come to that location.

It feels unsafe to walk on or around campus at night but have not actually had any issues.

I have never had a concern about safety on campus. Even though UT is a public university they take

many steps to ensure safety. There are many police emergency call stations around campus and it is also very well lit at night.

Many students go to downtown Austin to drink and consume alcohol and it is easy for them to do so. Also, sororities and fraternities are a big deal at my school and many of them host parties. The campus offers a program that escorts students around campus.

It happens; at every college, students are going to do drugs and drink, but so far I have felt no pressure in having to do anything I was not comfortable with.

I feel great while on campus! I really cannot complain about the safety here.

Parties are everywhere but security is always right and underage drinking isn't really tolerated. the student health center is great! They can usually get you in pretty quickly given the size of the campus.

Haven't had any issues with safety although I still have some concerns because campus lies in the heart of the city. Health has never been an issue for me.

Most students drink alcohol, particularly those involved in fraternities and sororities.

I don't go out much so I don't know too much about the drug and alcohol scene at the school. I know the RAs are trained to seek out marijuana and limit it's inside use and there are campus police, and also there are a lot of party busts for underage drinking.

Student safety services are preset and easily accessible

After Haruka was killed in April, campus really stepped up its game re: campus security

Many people drink, but many people also do not drink. It is entirely up to you

Health services at UT are definitely some of the best! You can even volunteer at the University Health Services.

It is definitely common at parties and on 6th street, but there's so many other things to do in Austin also.

Personally, I feel safe practically wherever I venture around campus because every few blocks or so there is either staff, students, or officers nearby who would always be compelled to lend a helping hand if needed. For the most part, there has not been any recent reports of campus crime to my knowledge and their frequency always appears to be severely low.

There is a lot of drinking and partying at this school, but drugs do not seem to be too much of an issue. There is, of course, weed consumption, but other than that there is not too much drug usage. Alcohol is common, and it is very clear that the West Campus area is a party-area.

We have UTPD which are always on patrol and are willing to help anyone in need.

I've never seen anyone take part in drugs on campus.

There are always little issues every where but apart from those, it's good being here!

The drug scene at our school is very noticeable and any student is able to get access to any of the drugs that they can think of if you know the right places to look. Especially the freshman coming to college.

The only time you'll see drug and alcohol usage will be off campus where the parties are at. But if you are staying on campus in the dorms, you'll find people stumbling in late at night/early mornings from parties. Sometimes they reek, puke, and are obnoxious but there are always people (such as RAs) that keep it under control to make sure nothing gets out of hand.

The safety provided to students on campus is very good.

the school is always putting the student health services out there, and everyone pretty much knows where they are located

It's big & things do happen, but I feel generally safe in my environment.

Smart drugs can be a problem, but this school is mentally challenging. Drug users don't last long here.

I've never heard of anyone getting busted for drugs on campus or at a party, so I don't think the drug scene is very big here.

Alcohol and drug use is pretty prevalent in West Campus, and there can be a lot of peer pressure to join illegal activities

No one will really pressure you, or judge you with whatever you choose to do or not do.

People are shook up because of a recent murder. It was a horrifying event.

The student body as a whole works hard to ensure the safety of their fellow students. The university provides campus police that constantly patrol the university grounds 24 hours a day. Also, there are emergency phones located all around campus that can be used if a student ever needs immediate help.

It's not bad at all. You barely smell marijuana on campus. Yes, you do smell bits of it when you go to ghetto communites like 5 miles off campus

On campus I always feel safe, it's just when you venture off you have to be a little more careful. Usually there are enough people around that you don't have to worry.

I am a Freshman and new to campus, but I don't feel unsafe. I take the necessary precautions that I would take at any campus. I keep personal valuable items out of site or locked up and I prefer to walk with a friend when not on campus. I do not feel afraid to walk to my classes by myself, however, my classes are all during the day.

The University does a good job at advocating the abstinence of drug use.

UT is known as a party school in some magazines, but really it's a interactive school. There are 100's of clubs and activities to do around campus. Austin TX is known for 6th street and many people do drink. I have only seen drugs a few times and all times were not at school. It depends on who you catch yourself hanging out with.

It's a big campus, and a weird city. Things have happened because someone was out too late at night. The security guards do the best they can but sometimes its too late when they try and help. In order to be safe you have to carry something with you, such as a pepper spray.

Alcohol is abundant but other than that I do not come across many drugs.

Overall, UT is a safe campus. The community is generally very kind and friendly. In the case of an emergency, there are 24 hour emergency phones every couple of feet throughout the campus and off-housing student areas. In addition to the phones, the police patrol on and off campus as well. Unattended personal items left in buildings are occasionally stolen, but are not a big problem. Recently, during the day, there have been numerous fire drills, fire alarm pranks, and of course, the highly publicized 'bomb threats'. Because its reputation as a huge party school is no secret, officials are generally very lenient about parties and clubbing downtown. They are mostly there just to make sure everyone is safe. The only thing that worries me are the rumors of muggings and sexual attacks at night in the off campus housing areas. This is probably partly due to being inebriated from all of the parties, but none the less, it is always a good idea to take precautions and travel in pairs.

Drug scene at UT Austin is not a major concern but it just depend on whomever you hang out and their relation to drugs. Drinking and smoking is a casual activity in other areas not in the school campus

They banned tobacco use on campus so it's not visible!

I've fallen ill a couple of times during my stay on campus, but the medical facilities are top notch and are more than able to help you get back on your feet in a matter of days.

Alcohol can be seen everywhere, from dorms to off campus parties. West Campus is right next to the college campus and is home to all of the Greek houses where parties often occur Thursday-Sunday. Drugs are available relatively easily, though the majority of it is marijuana. Many students take Adderall when studying for finals to focus for 10 or 12 hours without leaving the library. It is easily avoidable, however, and there are 50,000 people here to surround yourself with, most of whom do not abuse drugs and alcohol.

UT is safe for a school it's size. There have been a couple of bomb scares, and there was a kidnapping/sexual assault a few weeks ago. I, however, feel pretty safe on campus.

Campus is very safe, but at night walking into West Campus can be scary. Never walk alone late at night. However there are on campus organizations that offer walks home.

It's safe... I never felt threatened... But still have to be cautions at night

There's different resources to help the students feel more secure like having a night group accompany students where they need to go so the don't go alone. That's helps students feel safer. Walking on campus is usually fine but the outskirts and west campus especially can be scary. There are homeless people on the Drag who may pester people walking by from time to time. West Campus is somewhat scary/dangerous and its mainly due to drunk college students partying and doing unsafe things. Recently there was an incident in which drunk students threw down glass bottles from a window at another student who was walking by.

Safety is always an issue in cities, but UT does a great job of making students feel safe. There are campus police everywhere, and police frequently in West Campus. However, you do always have to be careful walking alone late at night outside of campus.

Many students take part in drinking, although there are some who choose not to. It really depends on who your friends are and how strong you are as a person (ability to say no). The most common drug is marijuana. It can sometimes be smelled around west campus, where most of the party scene takes place. A minority of students choose to do harder drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine, and shrooms. Due to the local atmosphere and the many strange people in Austin, it may seem that many locals are in another world of drugs.

I don't know much about the drug scene but there is a lot of partying and subsequently a lot of alcohol, particularly during Round Up.

You see drugs and alcohol around the school here and there. The policies are pretty strict, and those who are caught are dealt with in the proper manner. Most people just tend to do it outside of campus or in discreet locations where no one will see them unless you are searching for them. You find that adderal and marijuana are the main two drugs used by people. People here seem to be either really into going hard at life and use uppers OR chill and be very mellow while smoking weed. Everyone drinks, but not in a bad way. Except for west campus, that place is hell for most people who live there and actually want something out of school.

I feel UT is very safe. I have left the PCL at various times at night when finals come around ranging from 11 PM to 4AM and the only thing you will see that might be a danger would probably be a raccoon. And those guys will just leave you alone if you don't mess with them. There are also the emergency call boxes that are around so if anything happens those are there. Overall I feel pretty secure at UT.

It depends who you hang out with. UT is a party school, so the drug scene can be found if you willingly get yourself involved in some of the more extreme crowd

There are places for emergencies to call someone all over the campus.

There is a small bike theft problem on campus, but other than that it is pretty safe. There are emergency call boxes all over and UT police officers are available when you need them. The SSB is great if you have any health concerns, they are cheap, fast, and even have a small pharmacy

the UT police department has recently been accredited by several different agencies so it's a pretty serious program. I've never felt unsafe on campus and I'm normally walking to my car (which is on the outskirts of campus) late at night. There are lots of lights and police call boxes scattered around campus. You can sign up for weekly "campus watch" emails listing the various crimes that have been reported. Most of them are for people stealing unattended belongings so nothing too serious.

There is a decent amount of petty crime that takes place on campus, but I have never felt unsafe or threatened. If you ever do feel insecure, there are a lot of security measures in places like safe walk and emergency call boxes.

Alcohol, like on every campus, is definitely a big thing. That and weed are the only drugs you are openly exposed to--if you do not want to do anything you do not have to since there are plenty of other activities.

I have never felt scared to walk alone on campus. There is normally a handful of people always around. The campus police come out more at night and make there rounds periodically. Programs are put in place to allow students to request walkers so they do not walk home alone. Prior to the recent homocide of a fellow UT student, Austin Police Squad Cars' presence would be fairly prominent.

When I'm with my friends I feel safe when I'm not I do my best to be cautious.

I feel very safe on campus, I have never encountered any danger

There's not a lot of bad incidents regarding drugs and alcohol. I have heard of three cases, one from drugs and two due to alcohol. No one other than the person taking the drug/alcohol was in harm.

I personally feel safe on campus. I would say the biggest crime you hear about is theft - people break into cars that are parked in west campus a lot. Don't drive, take the bus!

In general the university is very safe you even have a line you can call so people will walk you home! The campus police are always visible. The text messages on any high alert are very fast. I feel real safe.

Policy enforcement of drugs or alcohol on campus is strictly enforced. Their is no peer pressure that I can see.

Drinking and smoking are very popular, although not as much on campus as in West Campus (not actually a part of campus but where many students live) or downtown. If you go to west campus and know some people in frat/sororities it is very easy to get access to drugs/whatever. Otherwise you need an ID to go downtown/bars/etc.

You take a pretty extensive online class on it, so i have always felt safe

While Texas students can still succeed if they make a personal decision to do so, there are a lot of bad decisions being made on any given night. I see drunk people stumbling back to their dorms regularly, and I'm pretty sure some of the homeless people who hang out on the drag are drug dealers.

Everything is always top shelf on campus from the food, food service, and employee competence. Drug use is not that big. Most students are involved with drinking. There is some use of marijuana. Drinking is encouraged at most parties, but there are scenes where it isn't necessary to drink. UT makes you do an alcohol education thing at the beginning of the year. Other drugs aren't that prevalent unless you hang out with those who do them.

On campus, it is hardly visible but a good number of students drink socially. This does not mean getting drunk but just to socialize among friends and other people. No one pressurizes anyone else to drink or any such thing so that is something good!

I've never really felt unsafe here at UT. There are always people walking around on campus, even at night. The campus is usually very lively. There are a lot of events that take place on campus. A lot of these events take place outside too.

There is nothing to complain about. The health and safety standards at UT Austin are outstanding.

I always have felt comfortable and safe on campus because I know just what to do if I feel in danger. There are police call buttons everywhere and lots of security measures in place.

If people are doing drugs, they're usually just smoking pot. Drinking is a much more popular activity. Due to recent events, a lot of precautions have been taken to ensure that students are safe and are aware of resources that are available to ensure overall campus safety.

There definitely could me a little more work being done.

Lots of underage drinking and some drug use in west campus frat parties

Campus is large and there are a lot of people, there are small thefts everyday. Police does a wonderful job, we get email and text alerts when it is not safe. They test the sirens out at least once a month, these sirens set out instructions to to tell us how to get into a safe place.

In my personal experience, the drug scene isn't as big as it could be, given how large the school is. Plus, the Center for Students in Recovery at UT offers excellent support services for students struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, and offers fun sober social events for those who want to opt out of events where drugs can be found. I find it to be a very healthy environment, so it gets an A!

I feel safe at the University of Texas at Austin. It is truly a diverse environment with all kinds of people that may appear unique among the crowd, but they more than likely will be harmless. The police are okay and provide a quality safe as possible place to learn. Last year they evacuated the entire UT campus because of a "supposed bomb threat" to the University; they handled that well.

I love attending classes at UT. Security personnel do their job professionally.

As a whole there isn't much drug usage on campus, and if there is UTPD is pretty good about handling the situation quickly. It really depends on who you hang out with, i've never heard of anyone doing drugs but i'm sure it's out there somewhere. I would say that drinking is the bigger issue.

depending on the people you hang out with determines your exposure to drugs. I personally have not seen an use of substance on campus jus signs saying drug/tobacco free zones. Im pretty sure at parties you will see drug and alcohol use .

The campus always sends campus alerts through our registered email letting us know what is going around campus . I always feel safe and up to date with the atmosphere and surroundings.

I've been in UT for about 2 years and I have never felt unsafe. I'm always walking by myself and I have never been on a dangerous situation. There are alarms around campus that have a button and when pushed it automatically contacts the police and they will get there as soon as possible.

There are police patrols around campus. It is recommended to always lock your doors and keep an eye on your stuff.

UT has a program informing incoming students about drugs and alcohol. The campus is dry, but the most popular activity is drinking by students - legal and underage. The campus police will issue citations to any student under the influence of alcohol or drugs, get medical intervention, or introduce the offending individual to their own bars at the station depending on the situation. RA's in the dorms are trained in recognizing certain smells and the process of alerting the campus police to problems also. They want the students to be safe and they do work very hard 24-7 campuswide. Exceptional Health and Safety – The school's pretty safe. But always stay with people you trust. There are campus alerts that can be sent to your phone or email. There's also a clinic on campus whenever you need it.

Smoking on campus is ridiculous because there are certain places where you can smoke but if you have to walk by there, you will die of the smoke. I haven't really seen any drugs on campus, but according to the school's statistics, 31% claim to do drugs...so yeah. Drinking of course is the biggest problem especially since 6th street is so close, and even if you don't go to 6th street, there are lots of parties at the dozens of frats and sororities across West Campus, so there is a lot of drinking here, though it depends on who your friends are.

The school is very safe and sends out safety alerts

There isn't much of a drug scene on campus as there is right off campus by the drag. However a lot of people participate in either smoking marijuana or drinking. It is not particularly too noticeable depending on whom you associate with. I have not heard of anyone doing "harder drugs" such as cocaine or meth, but I have heard rumors of drugged out fraternity boys.

There are always tons of people around, so being alone is not an issue. I've walked back to my dorm from the library a few times after midnight, and there are always other people milling about as well. You'll see police cars rolling around on campus, but I've never actually seen a police officer in the flesh. There are quite a few of those emergency phone booths as well, and they're well-illuminated so they're easy to find, but they could probably stand to be closer together. If you're planning to bike, you should bring the locks that they suggest. I don't bike, but I do know that bike theft can be an issue.

Really safe, everywhere I go I feel safe, always people around.

The University conducts emergency siren tests monthly (not sure what they're actually designed to be used for though). Campus police are a noticeable presence, but mostly seen writing parking tickets. There are blue-lit boxes all around campus with emergency buttons/phones to contact the UTPD. I don't normally walk alone at night on campus so I'm not sure how safe it is to do that, but I'd imagine it'd be fine since there are a gazillion people all the time everywhere you are in the UT area.

Students are always nearby on campus and there's police boxes everywhere and even some students/professor would walk back with you to a place at night. I never felt unsafe and I am a girl where I have walked alone at night but never felt in way that I would get attacked or so. The cops are nearby always and it's right at the core of the university so its hard for something bad to happen since people are "always" around, walking and so on. The campus security are helpful and even would wait and drive/walk you back to your dorm at night if you don't feel safe either way. There's a lot of bike thefts, anyone can tell you that. But personal safety wise, UT's great. I'm a girl, and while I'm always cautious, I feel really comfortable walking across campus at night. There are

police call boxes everywhere, we have a SafeWalk program for nights, the campus has its own police, the campus police text you when something happens, it's great.

The school provided many options regarding student's safety issues.

With recent events that have occured on campus, I think security on campus should be raised, however, I have never personally experienced a situation where I have not felt completely safe on campus and I pray I never do.

alcohol consumption is visible off/ near campus. drugs not so much

"I have never felt unsafe on UT Austin's campus. However, like most places in this world thieves do exist. Therefore keep your doors locked and backpacks close by. Do this and you should have no problems. Also, the campus is well lit at night and there are plenty of emergency phones nearby, so one shouldn't feel uncomfortable walking alone.

UT Austin is excellent at providing students with resources to maintain your health and well being. For example there is an entire department dedicated to promoting the health of students. It is the University Health Services department, located in the Student Services Building."

At The University of Texas at Austin, I can't say that the drug scene is extremely big. People want to get studying and homework out of the way, so from my perspective, drug and alcohol is not a very big problem. If I do happen to see someone drinking, they aren't necessarily abusing it, and getting "wasted". The alcohol education that the school offers is also very helpful.

Honestly, besides alcohol (which is pretty much evident or talked about a lot) I haven't really heard or seen anything about illegal drugs other than the occasional "legalize marijuana" poster. Occasional safety issues come up, but overall, it's very safe.

I feel really safe on the UT campus. There are police "call for help"s everywhere, and UT Police does a good job of helping students out. Yes there was a "shooting" recently but UT Police, Austin Police, State Troopers, Highway Patrol, Sheriffs, Constables, and every police you could imagine were there within the hour. We are in the capital of Texas so we have 4 levels of police in the city.

I feel truly very safe.

"Alcohol- much more peer pressure than any other type of drug. I live in West campus, so Thursday-Saturday nights there are drunk frat boys walking around. Not so safe.

Marijuana- in my experience, very little peer pressure. Not visible unless you're in ""that crowd"""

I have not experienced any illness yet, but my friends have used their Healthy Horns service. It does save a lot of study time to go and seek professional help on campus.

They really do take health and safety as a number one priority. We get texts if there is anything going on in the immediate vacenity. they have germx everywhere. the recent incident makes me give them a b+ because they could of had us evacuated a little sooner than they did. other than that i havent had an issue.

As Safe as Can Be! The UT Austin campus is as safe as you can get without getting into mundane over protective measures. We ARE in the city, and the campus isn't just some isolated portion of it. Anything in life is dangerous, and dangerous people are always everywhere. However, there has not been a moment on campus where I feel unsafe. UT does a very good job of keeping the environment protected.

Not Seen So Far – I have been in UT for 2 years and I have never seen students get high because of drugs. However, I did sometime found students get drunk during weekends after coming back from clubs. To reduce this, our school has a mandatory alcohol courses online. It tells us not drive too

much and how to help others that are drunk.

Troubling Times – We have had obvious signs of lacking in the security area that have been nationally acclaimed. Sorry to say that when you attend a school that size sometimes it's not possible to have surveillance all the time everywhere. When something happens you get either a text of an e-mail that tells you about the event so you can keep an eye out.

UTPD is very present and helpful on campus. There are lots of emergency call buttons located around campus, which I find reassuring, especially at night. There is also a program called SURE Walk, in which students volunteer to walk you home. Also, the university health services is so helpful, and they offer an extensive list of services.

Everyone does there own thing! There is no pressure if you don't want to, you can just be yourself. Safety is the number one priority! Students are taught how important it is to stay safe.

Drugs and Alcohol in UT – Even though UT is located in a city that is full of bars and clubs, I can say there is a great quantity of students that do not drink. Peer pressure is not an issue of concern in UT. Alcohol and drugs are available but you choose if you want to take them or not.

"Safety at UT – Texas has it's own police force whose presence on campus is noticeable and appreciated. Exterior Safety: They have installed police callboxes with bue lights all over campus to alert them of a problem. The callboxes are close enough together that you can see other callboxes. If you are being chased, all you have to do is hit the button, keep moving, hit the next callbox button, etc. They will know that you are being chased and they know how to look for you. Interior Safety: you must use your campus issued ID in order to gain access to your dorm - it won't work on any other dorm. This keep out many potential criminals. But, some of your fellow students can be criminals also. Lock your door and when you are outside or studying on campus, always keep your things with you. Leaving a phone, computer, backpack etc alone makes it easy for someone to take it. Common Sense People!"

Safe and Sound – I always feel safe on campus. I even felt fine to walk and jog late at night to and from the gym ( a 13 min walk away at a good pace).

Great Police Department – Everyday the University of Texas Police Department sends out an email reporting on the previous night's crimes and lists different ways to prevent any of the crimes from happening to you. I always feel safe on campus because there are police on watch all day.

I only have attended orientation from this school and so far, I am impressed by the UTPD. They are offering free self defense classes/activities so we can protect ourselves when needed. I feel that my stay at UT would provide me a safe haven while I focus on academics. :)

Safe for a Large Campus – UT is definitely one of the safer large universities. You're living in the middle of a city on a huge campus; as long as you keep that in mind and take appropriate precautions, you should be safe. Petty theft is common. Don't leave stuff unattended in public places, lock your room when you leave, etc. Try not to walk outside alone at night. The campus police are responsive and usually helpful.

I would say drinking is very popular. When ever people come back from parties it is obvious they have had a few drinks. Drugs are more popular among certain groups, especially engineering majors.

Drinking Is Popular Among Social Groups – Drug use on campus is barely noticeable on campus. However, many social groups such as sororities and fraternities engage in frequent drinking off campus. It is a popular activity among these socially engaged groups, but it does not pose any pressures on other groups and it does not disturb the learning environment on campus.

Student Safety – While the campus police are sort-of around and they have placed call boxes throughout, the campus is large, and West Campus is a breeding ground for debauchery. Car break-ins are common, and I try not to walk alone after 8.

Always Make Sure Students Are Aware of Risks – The University of Texas always enforces and educates students of the risk of harming oneself. They pass handouts and send emails enlightening students of the potential ways of overcoming or staying away from harmful substances.

Very Safe – The campus police have a text alert that is great.

Alcohol Is the Favorite – To be quite honest, the reputation of UT being the party school is actually very true. Alcohol is the drug of choice at virtually all the parties that students host off campus. The presence of alcohol is generally prevalent off campus rather than on campus and though UT is a big party school, a large proportion of the student body actually doesn't drink nor party. So if you aren't a big party person, don't worry.

Location, Location, Location – UT Austin's drug scene is largely based on the location the student hangs out or lives. There are parts of campus affiliated housing off campus or even on campus towards the outskirts that have high levels of drug presence. For the most part though drugs are not regularly seen in the heart of campus.

A girl died on campus this past year, and sexual assaults have increased over the past 5 years. Campus doesn't feel unsafe per se, but they need to take more affirmative action to prevent more cases from happening in the future.

Safe & Secure – UT has a multitude of resources available to keep students safe. We have an on-campus police force with emergency stations set up all over campus. We also have programs like Surewalk that offer students the safety of walking home with another students at all hours of the night.

There have been times that i haven't felt safe, but the streets are quite lit and it is not that dark. There are alot of help police boxes so you can always get a hold of the police if you ever felt threatened. Other than that the campus is pretty safe. Bikes get stolen alot so I would say to have multiple locks and to register your bike.

Its Very Popular – A majority of parties you go to there will be alcohol and weed.

Really Safe Environment – The safety at UT Austin is very good. There are resources available for you if trouble were to be encountered and students are abundant. Everyone looks out for each other and never have I felt worried about my own safety going here.

I here of a lot of students who will come baked to class. A lot of students could be seen smoking from a hookah on campus. But now, UT has instilled a no smoking policy and the campus is smoke free so there shouldn't be too much of a problem with cigarettes or hookahs anymore. As for other drugs, i don't know too much about those circulating around campus to give an honest answer. Campus Safety & Security – The University of Texas at Austin does provide a safe environment for students on campus. They provide emergency phones at every block and I feel pretty secure being on the campus. The only thing is, people need to watch out for themselves cause people in Austin like to "Keep Austin Weird".

Nothing You Can't Easily Avoid – There are so many people at UT that it's easy to avoid druggies and drinkers. Drinking is definitely more popular considering that UT is a party school, but you can still keep away from it if you want. I'm sure if you were interest in doing it, though, you could find it.

City Crime Is Typical – The University is in the middle of downtown, so crime is expected. Campus

police do their best to keep students well informed and up to date about crime around campus. The most common crime is stolen bikes.

Drugs Aren't Seen as Much as Drinking Is – Though a lot of drugs are found almost daily, drinking is a more popular bad habit.

More Drinking Done – More drinking that drug use occurs. However, it's easy to enter the drug scene too.

"Totally Safe – -generally safe city & safe campus

-large student population

-feel safe enough to walk alone around campus late at night"

It's Mostly Safe – Safety on campus is a pretty big thing since it's in the middle of a major city. It's mostly safe but there have been some rapes and assaults, but I'm a big guy and I feel safe 100% of the time.

There are always people riding in the go carts to keep an eye out for any problems that might occur on the streets of the campus. There are not any security guards around at night though. Everywhere around campus there are bright yellow Help Centers that are easily accessible by students walking around campus. I don't worry about my safety while walking around campus. Drugs, Not So Bad, Drinking, a Little Out of Control – I do not find there to be much of a drug scene at the University of Texas. The main drug used by UT students is probably marijuana, but I would say very few students actually smoke. Once we get into drinking I would say it's a little over-the-top..

UT overall really is a very safe campus. You see campus police patrolling at all hours of the night and they are generally very friendly and helpful. It of course has the blue light system but it also has people you can call to walk or drive you home at night from anywhere on campus. UT really strives to make its campus safe. The students and administration are also very active in trying to stop sexual assault on campus. There are a lot of programs to make students more aware about sexual assault as well as student groups working together to make the campus safer overall. I have never felt unsafe on the UT campus

It's ok but sometimes there isn't enough light in some spots

i feel pretty safe, campus police are around regularly.

Being in a big city can be scary at times, especially at night. UT provides many ways to stay safe, such as an organization that walks you to where you need to go if you are alone at night. There are also many support groups and people to talk to at UT. Longhorns definitely take care of each other. Alcohol Is Everywhere – It's pretty dang hard to stay sober on a Friday night, but there is also a pretty large weed-smoking population if that's what you prefer. Hard drugs are there, I'm sure, but I haven't seen any.

I Feel Safe – Our police force was praised when we had the shooter on campus last year. The response was quick and the administration did a good job at alerting the students through SMS messages and other various means. I feel comfortable walking back to my dorm at night, which isn't something you can say at other big universities.

Safety First – I feel safe enough when I walk around campus. I'm a new student and sometimes I have to roam around looking for buildings and certain places near the campus and I dont feel like my life is threatened. It's a big change up from where I'm from and I can actually say I dont fear for my life. You may not see the cops but trust me they're there.

Campus Safety – UT is generally a safe campus with regular security checks and quick access to law

enforcement officers. However the size of the campus enables the presence of non students which, in the past, has led to campus shootings. UT is also known as a party school and the high consumption of alcohol amongst students on/around campus brings sexual assault and increased road accidents to the area. The major safety concern is around the campus location, students have been alerted about armed robberies and assaults around the campus on Guadalupe and other neighboring streets. With the above in mind, I generally feel safe around campus and have never experienced any crime personally.

Its Like I Am at Home! I always feel safe on campus, it is always very well lit and the people are extremely nice. You can find police phones like every few feet and were something to happen to you on campus, help is usually quick to find. I have walked back to my dorm from across campus at 3-4 in the morning a lot of times, and I have never been scared. Austin has a great atmosphere. Very Safe – I felt completely safe walking around on campus even late at night.

Safety on UT Austin Campus – I believe that UT Austins Campus is very safe. They have provided a safe and comfortable environment on the daily basis and on multiple occasions, especially when the campus was under a lock-down. We also have a program called SureWalk that provides late night safe walks if you don't feel safe/comfortable walking. Not only is there that, but as well as multiple police call buttons that are dispersed all around campus for you to push if you were ever in a dangerous situation.

Austin Is Relatively Safe – For the most part, there are many police cars on campus. The area around campus is a hub for people looking for unique restaurants and shops, so cops roam the populated pedestrian area. There are frequent "police help" posts almost at every corner in case of emergencies.

Walkers, Drivers and Bikers – The University of Texas at Austin is a great campus to be on daily. Overall, I feel pretty safe unless I am trying to walk across the street. Walkers, drivers and bikers all move around focused on their own destinations. Their safety, as well as others, is put in danger. Pedestrians rarely stop at the intersections to see if a car or bike is coming. Most of the time, they do not even use the crosswalks. They act as if the roles are switched and they own the streets. Pedestrians seem to forget that if a car or bike does not see them, they will be the ones that get harmed the most. Cars rush to get through places when they see pedestrians coming. Once one person walks across the street, many more seem to follow. After waiting for people to cross, some drivers get aggravated to the point they speed carelessly. Bike riders speed through four-ways, and down hills. I have only been here for a semester and I have seen multiple people collide or just fall off their bikes. Before coming to UT, I pondered buying a bike, but I feel so much safer without one. This issue is not because of any rules or regulations; it is simply because the students choose to do these things. If students keep this UT mentality of walking across the street, pedaling however and whenever they want, or driving recklessly anywhere else, I truly worry about them.

Don't Do It – Drugs aren't that obvious around campus. Underage drinking is completely accepted, almost encourage. The cops won't do too much about it unless you're obviously intoxicated in public and may be causing a scene.

Not Much Drugs – If you want drugs, you can get them anywhere but it isn't as big as drinking or dancing.

Security on Campus – There are always police around campus since the university is in the middle of the city. Plus, the campus has the blue light system in case one ever does need help. On the weekends, one does see the police stopping people because of the partying going on in downtown,

which is close to the university. But I still feel safe there have been many drills and plans made in case of any serious situation. The university has a campus wide email and text message system to keep everyone informed on any hostile situations that may occur.

Personal Safety – There are safety lights all over the place, people walking around, a number you can call in order to have someone walk you home, and I have never gone a weekend without seeing cops just driving around.

safety and security on UT campus is very good. Cops are abundant

Pressure to Party – Drinking is popular whether you're over 21 or not. Alcohol is easily accessible through the help of upperclassmen and parties that provide for anyone that walks in the door. Downtown is a popular destination for nightlife, but you're required to be 21 to get in to most places. Many students have fake IDs, and if they don't they're pressured to get one. As for drugs like marijuana and other stuff, I don't really know much. The people I know either don't do that or don't talk about it.

There aren't enough blue police poles on campus. Also, after the freshman student was murdered on campus, that made a lot of students feel unsafe, but there were more police patrols after. Personally, I feel very safe on campus. We do have a running debate about the ethics of campus-carry, yet even as a liberal, I do not fear the issue. I feel that our school currently does not have the best reputation of being a safe campus, due to the recent murder of our fellow Longhorn, Haruka Weiser. However, the university has taken several measure to ensure more safety on campus as a result of this tragedy. We now have safe-rides around campus provided but faculty and campus police, as well as text message and email updates about any crimes or suspicious activity near or on campus.

Good So Far. I don't rely on the Health and Safety services much, but they are definitely available and I hear good things about them. I have never had any problems.

University Safety – The UT Austin campus is generally safe. Studens are comfortable walking around campus with their belongings. And like in any college, incidents do occur, but they are resolved in a timely and professional matter.

Alcohol Scene – As far as i'm concerned, the school does a great job to assure that minors do not mix in with the wrong crowd that deals with illegal substances such as drugs and alcohol. Because a majority of the younger generation stays on campus in a dorm, there is 24 hour monitoring. Moreover, it becomes fairly impossible to sneak around when you're being watched like a hawk. However, young adults will find a way to do just about anything, so while the school may be doing a good job to keep the campus as drug-free and safe as possible, there is no way they can monitor all fifty thousand students attending. realistically speaking, there is no way that they can over look every single decision a student makes. Thus far, the university of Austin does a great job in making sure they relay the message towards these illegal substances by displaying a zero tolerance towards drugs and under aged drinking. Peer pressure is constantly talked about and by upper level students you are taught how to steer away from the unwanted pressure of being influenced to give into the party scene. All in all, i believe that the university of Texas does a great job to keep its students on the right path towards learning and a healhty life style.

Safe Within the Austin – The university of Texas is spread out across downtown Austin. It is not considered a particularly safe place, considering there tends to be "weird" people living on the streets of downtown. However, I have never felt unsafe. The employees, security, and other students have made it a safe environment. Even people, just driving through the downtown, make

themselves aware of students walking around campus. However I would stay away from walking alone on the drag at nighttime.

Drug Availability – I would say that drug availability on campus is average but that they're pretty easy to get in austin in general.

Fairly Safe – Because campus is so large and crowded, especially during the day that it is rare to feel unsafe walking around campus alone. Campus is beautiful and large, but it is best to keep dorm doors locked and to take extra security measures just in case, to avoid theft. It is largely known that the PCL has a high theft rate, so never leave belongings unattended.

Drinking Is Definitely More Popular – The drug scene isn't that popular at UT. People just usually drink and hang out, if anything people are only smoking, which isn't really a "drug."

Pretty Safe – As with many college campuses, there are drugs are campus. However if any official finds out about such activity the situation is taken care of immediately.

Very Safe – I personally have not witnessed or heard about any violence on campus, when there is a possible threat campus police do everything in their power to ensure our safety.

Very Safety in Usage of Drug – Socail activities through alcohol is very usual for students. But this doesn't seem to interupt the regular life of school. Also, I've heard about drug but I've never seen the sene for my graduate student.UT is very safe zone I think.

Pretty Safe – Our campus police always has their guard up, and there is rarely any concerns on campus. You must be responsible for your own stuff, as theft is not unheard of here. Whenever there is an emergency, UT is quick to respond and tells us exactly what to do via text message and email.

Drug Scene – There's definitely a pretty obvious drug scene, especially with alcohol and weed. Not everyone uses, obviously, but most people do at least occasionally. Campus is technically dry, but that isn't always the case. As far as peer pressure, it's college. For the most part, we're all mature enough to accept you whether or not you're interested in partaking in illegal activities.

I've heard a few times that if UT was a small country, we would have the highest theft by percentage in the country and I believe it. You absolutely cannot leave anything out in the library, you have to lock up your bike using a u-lock, and i wouldn't suggest leaving your room unlocked if you aren't there. otherwise, i've never felt like physically unsafe. the UTPD is really efficient, which we all felt during the shooting at the beginning of this year. the Austin PD isn't too hard on public intoxication because this school is so big and it's Austin, but if you're caught drinking and driving you can be expelled.

Many people partake, but no peer pressure

They truly stress about protection of the people and their own bodies.

I personally feel safe around campus even during the early morning, or late evening hours. Although recently we had a murder of a student on campus. That caused the school to increase security, cops, lights, etc.

It is mostly safe if you go during the day and stay on campus, otherwise it is shaky if you go at night time.

Pretty Safe – Police are seen around campus. A recent shooting left a concern for safety, but UT and local/state authorities responses were very good under the circumstances. Only the shooter died, by his own hand. Not all the cops are friendly, so that's a drawback.

Never Used Drugs – Since I never used drugs, I didn't know where to locate them.

No Drugs on Campus, but "The Drag" Is Handy. I have seen not a single person who was on drugs

on the UT campus. However, "the drag," one of the most notorious party holes in Texas, is located right by campus. I don't even go down there at night. It gets crazy.

I Feel Very Safe Here. I've never had any reason to feel unsafe on campus. There are warning signs in the libraries and other common areas about not leaving things unattended, so I know thefts happen, but that's as much a life lesson as a campus issue. There are police call poles around campus in case of need, and the campus police has a very visible presence. I feel safe at UT!

I'm not sure how things are on campus about drugs & alcohol but they sell beer on campus so I'm assuming the alcohol scene is going to be bigger than the drug scene.

Easy Access to Drugs – At the University of Texas at Austin, drugs are easily accessible. Many people have consume some type of drug that is against the norm.

I feel safe at Denison High School. However we only have one security guard, and although we have security cameras, there are still many blind spots. I know of many students who take illegal weapons or drugs onto campus but I have not seen any big issues caused by these.

Personal Safety – I feel pretty safe in West Campus of UT Austin. Sometimes there are thefts and crimes like everywhere else, but there are a lot of people and police in the area, making me feel safer.

Drinking Is Popular Off Campus – Drinking is very popular off campus, but there arent any problems on campus. Drug use is pretty mild, and also occurs mostly off campus.

Hope You Like Dope – There isn't so much a huge abundance of different types of drugs as there specifically is marijuana. It appears that in Austin people in general are very open minded about it and if you ever find yourself at a place like Zilker Park, people will be very freely smoking. On campus a lot of people do it, and it's a very common thing. Aside from that though, there aren't a ton of drugs many people use.

Fairly Safe – Although The University of Texas at Austin is relatively safe during the day, it's not safe to walk around campus during the night. The university is right in the middle of downtown Austin, so there are a lot of weirdos walking around. (Keep Austin weird)! Also, there recently was a shooting near the tower, but that's not a usual occurance. Austin is a great place to party! Recently, UT-Austin was faced with one of the worst things that can happen at a college campus - a gunman on campus. He took his own life only and did not take anyone with him. I was on campus in class at the time. We were notified our tower alarm within minutes of him being spotted. We also received email messages on our laptops and cell phones. My professor immediately locked everything he could lock. My immediate reaction was to be scared, but I felt safe.

Booze and More – Appears that drinking is a big past time with most students. What else they do...who knows. But particularly at tailgating the beer is in full view and big time.

Plenty to Go Around – Although drinking is pretty popular, the is a wide variety of drugs available if you know the right people. It's not that hard to get your hands on whatever it is you want. The most popular is weed in Austin of course. Anywhere you go, there's a chance you will smell someone is smoking.

Austin After Dark – Study sessions, late-night trips to the labs, midnight snacks, and even when running after the hot sun goes down are just a few of the events that lead me out of my dorm and out on campus at night. I always feel that I am safe on campus no matter the time or destination. There is ample lighting, well maintained paths and always a security presence to ensure that I do not feel alone even if I am.
