Gulliver’s travel

The film of “Gulliver’s travel” released in 2011 mainly depicts the story about the changes of Gulliver after his travel. And, this movie is adapted from the famous novel. In my opinion, it did make a success for we can learn something useful influencing our life.

The new story happened in the USA in the 21st century, and the main hero is Gulliver. He is a courier of a company. He has been doing this work for about 10 years and he was a header in a little office. He was pleased with the life he lived in. And, he is a coward for he has been falling in love with a girl secretly for about five years and never confessed to her. One day, a young and handsome boy came to the company and became his peer. He said to Gulliver that he will leave this little small office someday. And he did it successfully to become his leader within several days.

One day, Gulliver met the young lady in her office and he intended to confess to her but he retreated in the last point time. And, he had to make a promise to write a travel novel in a night. Gulliver copied an article to hand her in. And, she asked him to take place of her to do an interview.

When Gulliver sailed in the ocean, the boat was sunk because of a heavy rain. He brought up only to find that he was fastened by the small people. He found that he appeared in the small kingdom. He was very scared and

frightened. He was caught by the general whose lover is the princess of the kingdom. And, the general built a large prison for him where he met his small friend who helped him in the following day. The enemies of this country declared the war to that country. The giant Gulliver was under control of the general to fight them. Unfortunately, the princess was kidnapped by the enemy so Gulliver cut off the iron chain. He used his fingers to throw them into the pool. A fire was set out by the enemies. The king and his main ministers were in great danger. He had to piss to put out the fire to save them. So, the kingdom won the great victory and Gulliver became the hero in this kingdom. Every small person showed the respect for him, expect the general. The king promised to build a suitable house for him nearby the sea. Gulliver told his experiences in the modern society. Of course, he lied to them and exaggerated the truth. He had been living in a happy life in the kingdom. He brought the modern lives into the small kingdom and the small people enjoyed the life with Gulliver. So, the general became more jealous of Gulliver. He closed the equipments which are designed for the enemies. The enemies noticed it and took actions to conquer this kingdom. While, Gulliver had a great power and he beat them. He became the hero again. The general feigned to be happy with him. And, he tried to look for Gulliver’s boat and he did it. He told Gulliver the good news but Gulliver wasn’t happy because he reminded of the days he had spent in the modern society. He

got the messages from the young lady that she was angry with him and would not see him again. He preferred to stay here to enjoy the feeling of hero. So he decided to be with the small people, which made the general angry. The general saw the picture of the orbit. He made the orbit to fight with Gulliver, and Gulliver was beat. He told the truth that he was only a common person in the society, which disappointed the whole small people. The small people decided to send him to leave their kingdom. He was floating on the sea for a long time. When he came up, he found that he was caught by a giant little girl who was larger than Gulliver. She considered Gulliver as a toy and dressed him as a girl. She was rude to him and force him to do something fool. Gulliver was sad and anger but he didn’t have the courage to escape from the dangerous condition. His small friend tried his best to find him and encouraged him to be brave. What’s more, he told Gulliver that the small kingdom was in great danger. The general betrayed his king, his lover, the princess. The enemies had conquered the kingdom and the king and his families were in prison. And, the young lady living in the modern society was caught. Hearing the news, Gulliver finally decided to go back to save his lover and the small people. He told himself he wouldn’t surrender to anyone this time. So, when the general wore his strong helmet to fight him, he continued to stand and insisted. And, every small people and the young lady supported him, which gave him much courage. With the help of his

best friend, he finally beat the general. And, Gulliver finally confessed to the girl who was accepting his love. Happily, the king agreed on that the princess married the young and brave boy, Gulliver’s best small friend. Gulliver with his lover left the small kingdom, and he wrote a book named “Gulliver’s travel”. It was published and got a big success. So, Gulliver became the writer and lived a happy life with his lover. And the young gay who worked with him until is a courier.

To be honest, I just thought that the movie was very funny at first. The plot was very dramatic and interesting, making me laugh. The travel was so surprising that I want to have the same experience. While, I have watched this film, I learned that doing is more important than talking. You will be successful if you make your first step and insist on it.

The summary of Gulliver

The summary of Gulliver's Travel This book tells us a story about an English ship’s doctor Lemuel Gulliver’s four special sea voyages. First, he arrived at Lilliput where he perceived humans less than six inches high! He gradually got used to the life there and even took part in the war with the neighboring state Blefuscu. When Gulliver disagreed with some of the King’s thought, the King wanted to take his eyes. So he escaped Lilliput and returned home. The second voyage took him to Brobdingnag, a country with water-tower size giants and an enlightened monarch. Gulliver lived comfortably there, but suffered several dangers from fighting with bees, a monkey and even a frog. He left there with an accident. His third voyage took him to a flying island Laputa which was full of scientists, magicians, and sorcerers who engage in ridiculous experiment. The experiment seemed impractical. On his fourth voyage, Gulliver arrived at the land of the Houyhnhnm. The land lived an intelligent and virtuous race of horse, the Houyhnhnms and Yahoos, immoral humanlike creatures who serve the Houyhnhnms. At last, Gulliver left Houyhnhnms and made his way to a nearby island, where he is picked up by a Portuguese ship and the ship took him back to England.

Gulliver's Travels

Gulliver’s Travels When I first read Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, I was a little girl. At that time, I once just regarded it as a fairy tale. After I read it again when I grew up, I realized the true soul of this book: a sharp sarcasm. This book criticized society in 18’s century Britain. Gulliver's Travels presents Swift's views on society by Swift's invention of several new societies, each with similarities and differences. The similarities are often written as though they were differences. This entry will examine these views, and examine the differences between these societies and 18th Century England, and discuss his use of satirical comment in the novel. The book is commonly presented to young children as a kind of 'fairy story', but it is clear that Swift intended many levels of meaning within the novel, and these are not always visible to younger readers. The four sections of Swift's satire each comment on different aspects of society. The first section, detailing a voyage to Lilliput, a land of tiny people, shows how society reacts to larger people; namely with fear. The second part, his voyage to Brobdingnag, a land of giants, shows how society often treats smaller people; as curiosities. The third section, Laputa, shows how society treats people who are different, while the fourth, the land of the Houyhnhnms details slavery and class ideas within Swift's society. Swift uses many literary techniques in Gulliver's Travels to convey his ideas, including irony, humor, comments on individuals and society in general and long lists followed by sharp statements. The book is easy to read for young children, while still providing a challenge to the thinking adult. Young readers may see only the surface of the story, while adults can penetrate the depths of his writing. Such adults may be confused, even vexed, as to Swift's meaning, primarily because of his humor and comparisons between several different societies. In his description of Lilliputian society Swift explains, in detail, their views on education and law, which are extremely like his own society's views. Most 18th Century Englishmen, however, would not recognize this due to their proximity to the situation. For instance, they 'have in every town public nurseries, except... laborers are obliged to send their infants... to be reared and educated when they come to the age of 20 moons'. This works out to be nearly two years old by our calendar. This is when some parents send their children to nursery, although it is usually at three years old. In Lilliput, as in the England of the 18th century, 'They have certain professors well skilled in preparing children for such a condition of life as befits the rank of their parents', thus following a caste system, as with upper, middle and lower class. Swift presents this as a difference; he is in fact using irony to say that the opposite is true. In contrast, in the second section, Swift devotes only a few paragraphs to the education of the inhabitants of Brobdingnag, calling it 'very defective, consisting only in morality, history, poetry and mathematics... the last of these is wholly applied... to the improvement of agriculture and all mechanical arts'. It is ironic that these subjects encompass a large portion of the education of Swift's society. Therefore, it would seem that in both societies, Swift is showing his own society's education in an unfavourable light, despite his assertions of 'The author's love of his country' as described at the start of chapter seven in part two. It is ironic

英国文学读书报告Gulliver’s Travels

班级:英语1班 学号: 姓名: Gulliver’s Travels By Jonathan Swift Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) , the author of Gulliver’s Travels .He was born in Dublin, Ireland on 30 November 1667, second child and only son of Jonathan Swift1 . And he was compelled to accept aid from relatives, who gave it grudgingly. In 1726, he wrote and published his greatest satiric work, Gulliver's Travels. Swift was a man of great moral integrity and social charm. He had many friends in the literary circle and was also admired and loved by many of the distinguished men of his time. A man with a bitter life experience, he had a deep hatred for all the rich oppressors and a deep sympathy for all the poor and oppressed. His understanding of human nature is profound. In his opinion, human nature is seriously and permanently flawed. To better human life, enlightenment is needed, but to redress it is very hard. So, in his writings, although he intends not to condemn but to reform and improve human nature and human institutions, there is often an under—or over tone of helplessness and indignation. Swift is a master satirist. His satire is usually masked by an outward gravity and an apparent earnestness which renders his satire all the more powerful. Swift is one of the greatest masters of English prose. He is almost unsurpassed in the writing of simple, direct, precise prose. He defined a good style as "proper words in proper places." Clear, simple, concrete diction, uncomplicated sentence structure, economy and conciseness of language mark all his writings essays, poems and novels. The book begins with a short preamble in which Lemuel Gulliver, in the style of books of the time, gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages. He enjoys traveling, although it is that love of travel that is his downfall. During his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and finds himself a prisoner of a race of tiny people, less than 6 inches tall, who are inhabitants of the island country of Lilliput. After giving assurances of his good behavior, he is given a residence in Lilliput and becomes a favorite of the court. When the sailing ship Adventure is blown off course by storms and forced to put in to land for want of fresh water, Gulliver is abandoned by his companions and found by a farmer who is 72 feet tall (the scale of Brobdingnag is about 12:1, compared to Lilliput's 1:12, judging from Gulliver estimating a man's step being 10 yards.) A V oyage to Laputa , Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib, and Japan, After Gulliver's ship is attacked by pirates, he is marooned close to a desolate rocky island, near India. Fortunately he is rescued by the flying island of Laputa, a kingdom devoted to the arts of music and mathematics but unable to use them for practical ends.
