Comments about President Hu’s Visit to the United States Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Washington on January 18, beginning his four-day visit to the United States. He was welcomed by US vice president Joe Biden. Hours after his arrival, American President Obama host a small private dinner in the Old Family Room at the White House for him.

In a friendly atmosphere, both heads of the states exchanged views on Sino-U.S. relations, international and regional issues of common concern. President Obama extended a warm welcome to President Hu. Both leaders positively assessed the progress in bilateral relations, and hoped that the visit would further promote a positive, cooperative and comprehensive Sino-U.S. relationship.

Hu said he had come to the United States to strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples, boost bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and enhance effective coordination between the two countries on major international and regional issues. Above all, he said he had come to open a new phase in the development of Sino-U.S. relations.

President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States bore rich fruit and opened a new chapter of cooperation between the two countries. It enhanced mutual trust, promoted friendship, deepened cooperation and moved forward the positive relationship between the countries in the

years to come. Hu also praised the momentum of growth in Sino-U.S. relations over the past three decades. And he said cooperation had brought tangible benefits to each nation's citizens. President Hu also hoped that both sides could help promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Hu's visit charted the course for the development of China-U.S. ties in the future, boosted China-U.S. strategic mutual trust, promoted bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various fields, expanded bilateral humanistic exchanges, strengthened bilateral local-level governmental cooperation and increased bilateral communication on major international and regional affairs.

The visit realized the goal of boosting mutual trust, strengthening friendship, deepening cooperation, and building the China-U.S. cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit. It surely further moved forward the positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship, and opened a new chapter for bilateral cooperation of partners.

The visit is described as the most important meeting between the leaders of the two countries in three decades, which is aimed at enhancing the positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship. The visit, billed as the most important by a Chinese leader in 30 years and one of the most important of the Obama presidency, really set the stage for future

relations between the United States and China.

In summary, president Hu’s visit has achieved the expected goals, brought back the enthusiasm of the United States to receive the Chinese guests, and left the two sides build greater trust in the new century civilization.
