Take Initiative to Be Nice

On this usual Monday, I learned something unusual from Mrs. Lee.

As usual as what she did at the beginning of the class, she told us two to three stories happened on her.

“One of my friends first came to Guangzhou and she was very worried about the taxi driver went a long way round in order to earn more money, so she warned the driver not to do so again and again. Unfortunately, all she did didn?t work and she was charged more than that of normal journey takes. She was very angry about that and criticized severely that the drivers of Guangzhou are cunning and dishonest.”Mrs. Lee said in a mild, soft voice.

“After I heard her complaints, I thought about it myself,”she continued, “Actually we always criticized others on their cold and unfriendly behaviors, but we seldom self-question ourselves: what we did to others then? Did we always smile to them? Did we show our trust even a little to them?”

“I think, if my friend first showed her nice and trust to the driver, it will make a difference.”she added, “Have you ever experienced that you went to the school canteen and said …you?ve worked hard and thanks?to the workers at the wicket sincerely, then they gave you more dishes than usual?”

“I did. And I believe that if you take initiative to show nice to others, you will get the same in return.”

Mrs. Lee?s story and words reminded me of our complaints on the Miss who worked in the second canteen selling dumplings and pulled a long face everyday. She

keeps cold face to everyone as if everyone owes her a lot of money. We criticized and made a joke on her privately after receiving a cold welcome. But at this time I felt ashamed. Most of us criticized her coldness but how many of us going to buy dumplings said “Excuse me, dumplings, please!”mildly instead of a simple shout “dumplings!”? And how many of us take it for granted that she should be polite and friendly to us even though we don?t show the same to her?

We often feel uncomfortable and complain about the coldness of others in our daily life but seldom look into our own behaviors. Take initiative to be nice—a smile or a greeting—to others, you can get the same in return and start a new happy day.
