Mr. Nash would be awarded a Nobel Prize in Economics for the profound contribution to economic field.

The prize surprised the world, not just because the Nobel-winning thesis was contained in a slender 27-page Ph.D. thesis written almost half a century ago by Mr. Nash, but because the winner, Mr. Nash, could receive the prize after more than 30 years’ torment of paranoid schizophrenia.

Decades ago, when Mr. Nash was at the top of his profession, the terrifying disease happened to him. It ruined both his professional and personal life. He suffered so much from illusions that he had to stop his work and stayed in isolation. With the protection of his families and friends, 20 years later, he gradually conquered the disease and came back to the public.

He has seldom talked about his illness directly and people would also prefer to concern his achievements rather than his illness.

The Early Years of Mr. Nash

Born in West Virginia, Mr. Nash was essentially an unworldly man. Mr. Nash’s mother was a Latin teacher, and his father was an electrical engineer. From Mr. Nash’ childhood, he was regarded as a prodigy but not a pedant. He was good at dealing with problems from different perspectives. In 1945, Mr. Nash entered Carnegie Tech where he changed his major from chemistry to math. There he was called “a young Gauss”

and “genius” for his excellence.

The Brightest Period of Mr. Nash

In 1948, Mr. Nash entered the doctoral program at Princeton where there were many prominent mathematician and scientists, including John von Neumann.

As Mr. Nash lacked in sociality, other students thought him odd. But the game Mr. Nash invented was widely welcomed .Students called that game “Nash”or “John.”

Mr. Nash liked studying other mathematicians’ unsolved problems. In the second year at Princeton, he picked a problem for his thesis that had eluded von Neumann. In fact, von Neumann and an economist wrote a book, “The Theory of Games and Economic Behavior”, in which game theory was first introduced. In the book, von Neumann stated that one side’s gain was the other’s loss. While Mr. Nash’s later study on game theory furthered von Neumann’s achievement. He showed mutual gain was also possible. Mr. Nash’s discovery turned the elusive game theory into a useful tool when dealing with economic problems. His theory also finally led him to the Nobel Prize.

After Mr. Nash got his doctorate at the age of 22, he started teaching. Still he kept much passion for complex math problem. Once an old professor challenged him with a notorious problem that was thought insoluble. Surprisingly, Mr. Nash worked it out with a new invented

method. So far, the solution invented by Mr. Nash is described as “astonishing” and ”dazzling” by mathematicians.

The Happiness appeared with Disaster

By the mid-1950’s, Mr. Nash met his beautiful future wife, Alicia Larde. They got married in 1957. A year later, Mrs. Nash was pregnant. However, at the same time, paranoid schizophrenia appeared on Mr. Nash. He behaved so weirdly that he was sent to a psychiatric hospital. His friends thought Mr. Nash’s life had been destroyed and felt deeply pity for Mrs. Nash as well as the coming baby. The treatment in the hospital didn’t work .Even worse, the disease intensified, so Mr. Nash had to quit his work and wandered from city to city.

The Darkest Period of Mr. Nash

In the next 20 years, Mr. Nash spent most of his time in Princeton, which was thought helpful to his illness. There, he was under the care of his families and friends, even the neighbors. Though Mrs. Nash divorced with him, she still lived with him and painstakingly supported the whole family. Mr. Nash’s former colleagues also offered a lot help, both financially and spiritually.

The Rebirth of Mr. Nash

Just as it happened, with the protection of Mr. Nash’s families and friends, the illness that tormented Mr. Nash for 20-plus years disappeared gradually without reasons. Mrs. Nash held that the quiet life

contributed to this miracle. Anyway, the remission represented that Mr. Nash could continue his mathematics research again. And now Mr. Nash enjoyed the highest honor in the world. His name is the other name of surprise.
