留学申请的主要六种文书材料

（1）个人陈述（Personal Statement）

有时也称Statement of Objectives/Statement of Purpose 或Study Plan（学习计划，侧重点略有不同）。主要用于描述个人的背景、申请目的、研究方向等信息，是申请文书中较重要却也比较难把握的部分。你正苦恼于GRE、TOEFL等标准化考试的成绩，当你正为高不成低不就的GPA而唏嘘感慨时，一份出类拔萃的个人陈述却有可能让你力挽狂澜，从众多申请者中脱颖而出，牢牢抓住教授的眼球，最终获得海外求学的全额奖学金。甚至在某些学校，个人陈述已经代替了面试，作为评价学生的一个重要依据。因此，个人陈述在整个申请材料的准备中占据了举足轻重的地位，也有必要赢得众位申请者的充分重视。

个人陈述是每个人个性和独特经历的体现，并没有统一的语言要求和写作格式。但是在留学文书的准备中，个人陈述属于正规的书面文体，用语最好符合书面语的规定。版面的安排应该整洁有序。同时在个人陈述的准备过程中应该仔细阅读申请学校的网页，寻找学校是否对于语言和格式有明确的要求。在个人陈述的写作中切忌不要堆砌辞藻，不要过多使用长句和难懂的单词。否则会使阅读者头疼，可读性降低。

（2）简历（Resume）

也称作Curriculum Vitae，两者差别较小，在申请中可以不用区分。简历用于描述个人的经历，背景，以及硬件条件，其中的信息往往是学校第一轮筛选的依据。

简历也是在出国申请文书的准备中必不可少的一个部分。很多美国大学在申请材料的要求中并没有强制要求准备简历。但是由于一份精美的简历可以给评审委员会一个概括性的了解，甚至先入为主留下好印象，所以准备简历也就成了广大申请者乐此不疲的一件事。此外，简历也可以用在与对方教授的信件交流中，重点明确的简历往往可以突出申请者自身的闪光点，吸引教授的注意，甚至达到意想不到的效果，从而为最终获得奖学金和入学资格赢得先机。

在申请文书的准备中，我们常常看到对方大学网页上要求准备Resume或者Curriculum Vitae，这里我们统称为简历。其实两者含义略有不同，Resume是一个含义更普遍的词语，可以用于求职，留学申请等等场合中；而Curriculum Vitae则基本局限于学术领域，内容更加侧重学术成就和科研经历。

（3）推荐信（Recommendation Letter）

也叫Letter of Recommendation，Reference Letter，Referee，Evaluation等。推荐信是对于申请者熟悉的人对申请者做的评价，让学校在没有见到申请者的情况下对申请者有更细致的了解。有些学校虽然要求提交已由学校设计好的推荐表格，但申请人最好在寄送推荐表格之余再附

上一份由推荐人签名的推荐信。

在留美申请的过程中，学校通常会要求２～４封来自由申请者工作主管或教授的推荐信函，其目的在藉由申请人外的第三者，就申请人的特质、能力和态度做评估，以作为学校审核申请者的一种参考。推荐信是留学申请过程中，最难由自己掌控的部分，也由于它是众多审核数据中少数能从第三者的客观角度评估申请者的文件，因此占有重要的地位。

一般而言，最好每封各有其强调主题，以完全展现自己的特质及专才，并且能与读书计划相互呼应者为佳。写推荐函时，依个人特质、明确事迹或成就来表现自己，而不是许多模糊、空洞美丽的词句、且以诚信为原则，稍微夸大并无所谓，但严禁说谎及欺骗。

在很多情况下，申请者可以在征得推荐人的同意后，自己代写这些材料，但最后必须交由推荐人过目并签名。

（4）学习计划（Study Plan）

学习计划或者读书计划旨在说明学习的目标、课题、方法、进度和安排，主要内容包括描述在今后的学位课程的学习过程中，学习方向及兴趣，学习将分成哪几个阶段，如何进行课程学习，如何利用课外的其它学习手段及资源（如workshops, conferences, seminars等），如何进行实习，如何与导师一起进行科研，科研中将采用什么方法，将选择什么方向进行论文的写作，预期的研究结果, 以及所学内容对今后的意义等。

（5）研究计划（Research Proposal）

多数香港学校要求申请者提交此材料。形式类似与研究生开题报告，用于了解申请者的研究水平与学习计划。

Research Proposal就是我们通常说的研究计划，申请者一般简称为RP。是申请香港，英国一些学校时需要提交的一份申请材料。研究计划（Research Proposal）是纯学术的，无须加入诸如个人经历、感情这些东西。它要求申请者要有一个明确的研究方案并对此有较好的掌握。这个计划必须是非常具体的，不能太宽泛。研究计划一般包括以下几点：

1) 研究对象（Topic），即你想要解决的问题

2) 研究此问题的意义

3) 前人的研究状况即遗留的问题

4) 你的研究方法（Methodology）

5)参考文献（Bibliography）

具体的要求每个大学都略有不同，但基本上是依照这个格式。首先，你要根据你想申请的或者你比较熟悉的研究方向来提出一个设想，然后再把相关的背景，你设想的研究方法，以及你所预期的得到的结果都写进去。这就类似于研究生的开题报告。

（6）MBA入学论文（Essay）
