I have a big family. We often get together at our home every Sunday. When I was 5 years old, my grandparents, parents, aunt, uncle and my cousin, Jane, would have a wonderful time playing games, swimming, relaxing and sharing stories.

On one sunny summer Sunday, Jane thought it would be funny to push me into the swimming pool we had in the garden.

Plants mostly grow in pleasant places with a lot of sunshine, but some plants can also be found in areas that do not seem good for them. All that most plants need to grow in air, sunlight and water. Humans need plants; without them, nobody would be able to live. Plants provide

fuel(燃料), food, clothing, houses and medicine.

Fuel: The oldest form of fuel is wood, which can be burned to create heat for warmth and cooking. As time goes by, green plants that lived a very long time ago have formed coal(煤), oil and gas, which humans use for heating and cooking.

Food: The main food plants are grains, including wheat, corn and rice and so on. For centuries, people have been using spices(香料) from plants in their food. Even drinks come from plants, such as coffee, tea and cocoa. Nature makes many other kinds of drinks naturally, such as fruit juice and milk.

Paper: Papyrus(紫莎草)，a grass-like plant, was used more than 4,000 years ago by Egyptians to make paper. It was from this plant that paper got its name. The Chinese, around 100AD, invented a particular way of producing paper that is still in use today.

Houses: In many parts of the world, wood is used to build houses. Many of our houses are made of wood, that is, they are plant products. Many containers(容器) that we use in everyday life are made up mainly of wood.
