Recent months have seen a revival of the humble(普通的)bike across China, with an increasing number of people choosing pedaling(骑车)instead of driving to school, to workplaces or to do sightseeing. The introduction of bike-sharing systems, services in which bicycles are made available for shared use to individuals who do not own them and pioneered by start-ups like Ofo and Mobike, has brought the trend to a new level.

Washington D. C. has one of the biggest bike sharing systems in the US with 3, 700 bikes and 440 stations. The UK, France and Germany all have growing programs. However, China, so far, outdoes(超过)them all by operating three out of four of the world’s shard bikes.

People can unlock the shard bikes by simply using their smartphone. The bikes are equipped with GPS and users of China’s versions can leave bikes anywhere in public for the next user. They’re popular among many Chinese people as they provide an effective solution to the “last mile” problem, which refers to the final leg of a person’s journey.

However, the Chinese programs have also led to problems such as illegal parking, vandalism(故意破坏)and theft. In fact, these problems are also shared by bike-sharing programs abroad. Launched in 2007, Véilb is a large-scale public bike sharing system in Paris. At its early stage of operation, it also suffered from problems of vandalism or theft. By Oct 2009, a large number of Vélib’s initial bikes had to be replaced due to vandalism or theft, according to The New York Times.

To deal with these problems, the company came up with the idea of encouraging people to return the bikes to stations by rewarding free time for their next rides. Now, Chinese service operators are also trying to address these problems. For example, Mobike sets a 100-point credit score for each user, with points taken in the case of bad behavior. Once a score drops below 80, bike rental is increased to 100 yuan per 30 minutes, up from 0. 5-1 yuan.

Written work at college level cannot be done at the last minute or in a rush. It takes time. Turn to your teachers. France has become the first country to ban supermarkets from throwing away unsold food. The new law, which was passed, requires supermarkets to donate unsold food to charities and food banks. If supermarkets do not obey the law, they will face a $4,000 fine. Each year, France throws away about 7 million tons of food. That is one-fifth of the amount of food bought each year. Along with individual consumers, restaurants and stores add to the food waste.

Other European countries are also making efforts to reduce food waste. In Denmark, a new ＂waste＂ supermarket has opened, where customers can buy leftover food at cheaper prices.

Arash Derambarsh is a municipal councilor (市议员) in Paris. He started a petition(请愿书) to the French Parliament to adopt the supermarket food waste law. ＂The situation is very simple,＂ he said. ＂On the one hand, we have supermarkets that throw away kilos of unsold food every day. On the other, we have millions of poor

people in France.＂

Derambarsh published a book called Manifesto Against Waste. In the book, he wrote about his experience as a poor student barely able to pay for rent. ＂I was hungry and ashamed of admitting it. I wanted to turn it into a positive experience so others would not end up in this situation.＂ Derambarsh is now campaigning for the European Union to adopt similar supermarket waste laws. He is urging the United States and other countries to adopt such measures, too.

Some people welcomed the new law. Louise Saint-Germain is president of a small non-governmental organization. She said the increase in donation will allow her group to ＂feed more people and provide a more diversified food basket＂. But others are worried the law will lead to more donations than they can handle. Aline Chassagnot manages a Salvation Army store. ＂We simply don’t have the technical and logistical(后勤的) ability to hand out more food to more people. And we’re not the only ones,＂ she said.

Austin and his father have plans to expand their community outreach efforts so they can also fight homelessness at its roots.They have also started a GoFundMe as part of their Show Love Foundation. “We’ve gotten a lot of support from the country，and what we want to do is expand and do from more than just giving out sandwiches，” TJ told CNN，saying that，finally，he and Austin hope to build a service center that deals with the many causes and symptoms of homelessness.“Mental illness，drug abuse，addiction，and things like that，” he said.“Austin and I want to build a service center and get some specialists in there that can actually help these people get back into t he workforce.”
