Dragon Boat Festival

Hello, everyone, today I will give you the introduction of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth

day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calender. It has had a history of more than

2000 years. The country also attaches great importance to the protection of intangible

cultural heritage. The State Council approved the inclusion of the folk first batch of

national intangible cultural heritage on May 20, 2006.

There are many legends about the evolution of the festival, such as Qu Yuan, Cao E

and Wu Zixu. Scholars has provided many explanations about the origin of the dragon

Boat Festival. Next I will introduce one of them--Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan, an honest,

upright, loyal minister of the Kingdom of Chu who is said to have committed suicide

by drowning himself in the Miluo river. In order to avoid his body to be eaten by fish and shrimp [?r?mp], people cast many of bamboo rice into the river, and compete to row /hoping to rescue and recover the body of Qu Yuan. Starting from that time to this day, people commemorate [k??mem?re?t]poet Qu Yuan through dragon boat races, eating rice dumplings, and several other activities on the anniversary of his death. Next I will introduce some of the most representative customs of the Dragon Boat

Festival. The first one is rice dumplings. Eating rice dumplings on the Dragon Boat

Festival is a Chinese traditional custom. People will prepare rice dumplings on the

early Dragon Boat Festival every year. It is an essential food of the Dragon Boat Festival. The rice dumpling is a glutinous [?ɡlu?t?n?s] rice ball /with a filling wrapped [r?pt] in reed [ri?d] or other plant leaves and tied with colored thread [θred]. Now the fillings are more diversified, including eggs, beans, dates(枣), meat or a combination

of them. Next is dragon boat race. The festival is best known for its dragon boat races

which are the most exciting part of the festival, especially in the southern provinces

where there are many rivers and lakes. As the gun is fired, people will see competing

teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to a drumbeat/ racing to reach the

/finish end /first.

With the changes of the times, the memorial turns to be a time for protection from evil

and disease for the rest of year. People will hang healthy herbs on the front door to

clear the bad luck of the house. Although the significance of the festival might be

different with the past, it still gives the observer an opportunity to glimpse a part of

the rich Chinese cultural heritage.

Today, Dragon Boat Festival in the Chinese people is still a very popular grand

festival and has been officially included in the national holidays. I hope Chinese

people will remember it isn’t just entertainment, we should have more kind of feelings

on it. Thank you.

介绍端午节英语作文

介绍端午节 Dear Mike, Thanks a lot for your last letter, in which you asked me about the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival. Here is something about it. Over a thousand years ago, there was a famous poem called Qu Yuan in China. He cared about the common people as well as the whole country, so he did a lot for them. However, he was not satisfied with the political situation at that time. What’s worse, he was unable to change it. At last, he felt so hopeless that he decided to take his own life (take one’s own life = commit suicide自杀). Finally, he jumped into the Miluo River and drowned ( drown 淹死,溺死). In memory of him, people created the Dragon Boat Festival. The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, so it is also called the Double Fifth Festival. It usually comes in June. In China, it has been a public holiday, so we have 3 days off. On that day, we usually eat zongzi, a kind of traditional Chinese food, which is made of glutinous rice (stuffed with different things). It tastes really delicious. We also drink xionghua wine. It’s said that it can keep us from evil spirits. To celebrate this festival, what’s more, we have many activities. The most popular one is dragon boat races. People usually take active part in them and enjoy themselves a lot during the races. I’m really glad that you’re interested in our Dragon Boat Festival. If you want to know more about it, I’d like to send you some photos that I took during the festival last year. I hope they will be helpful. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

端午节ㄉ由来英文~ The Dragon Boat Festival is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar, and is therefore often called 'Double Fifth Festival'. In Chinese, the holiday is called Duan Wu Jie. When it was known that Qu Yuan had been lost forever, the local people began the tradition of throwing sacrificial cooked rice into the river for their lost hero. However,a local fisherman had a dream that Qu Yuan did not get any of the cooked rice that was thrown into the river in his honor. Instead, it was the fishes in the river that had eaten the rice. So, the following year, the tradition of wrapping the cooked rice in bamboo leaves was begun. The cooked rice wrapped in bamboo leaves later came to be known as zong zi. There is also another version of the story. When it was known that Qu Yuan had been lost to the river, the local fisherman had a dream that the fishes in the river were eating Qu Yuan's body. The local people came up with the idea that if the fishes in the river were not hungry, then they would not eat Qu Yuan's body. So the local people began the tradition of throwing zong zi into the river to feed the fishes in hope that Qu Yuan's body would be spared. 端午?的由??nbsp; The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar.
