Digital Tablets or Printed Books

As the development of digital technology, tablets are used in our classes more and more widely. Different people have different opinions about it. Some people think that digital tablets are going to replace printed papers while others think oppositely. As a matter of fact, both of them has their own advantages and disadvantages. Because of this, it is high time for us to discuss whether digital tablets can take over printed books entirely or not.

As universally acknowledged, large storage is most distinguishing advantage of the tablet as a learning tool. So a small tablet can store several times more information than printed books of the same size. Besides, the small size makes tablets more portable and convenient. What’s mo re, it is faster and more accurately to record and modify information with digital devices. Considering all above, tablets can surely be used more widely in the future.

However, tablets may be unaffordable to some poor families. In the long term, the price of the tablet device and information it stores can be lower than printed books. But it is not really realistic for those poor students’ family to afford the expensive digital devices in the beginning, for which some people think ill of digital tablets.

In terms of weight and volume, digital tablets have an edge over printed books. But many students are still more willing to use printed books because books are intended for writing down notes and underlining key points. In short, Digital tablets are convenient for saving learning information and carrying while printed books are convenient for class reading and noting. In this way, to those who put more emphasis on class efficiency, printed paper is their best choice.

Actually, a lot of parents prefer printed paper to digital tablets to prevent harm to their kids’eyesight and healthy. In view of cost, convenience and healthy, printed books may have a larger market.

In addition, printed books are supported by a variety of academic scholars. They hold the view that the use of printed paper can improve people’s handwriting

skills so that our excellent handwriting culture can be handed down from generation to generation.

Above all, it is quite difficult to tell which is better for students and classes. As far as I am concerned, different people are supposed to choose carefully according to their personal interest, learning requirement and financial conditions. For one thing, if you are used to taking notes in detail in class or dislike watching tablets screen, printed books are more suitable for you. For another thing, if you enjoy saving a large amount of information for future use and hate carrying heavy books every day, you can choose tablets.

In conclusion, in spite of a lot of advantages over printed books, it is still impossible for digital devices such as tablets to replace printed books entirely in the future. As far as students and campuses choose and use tools thoughtfully, printed books and tablets can coexist whenever.
