“How can I learn English well?” This is a question many stud ents ask. In my opinion, the most effective way is to learn lessons by heart. If you can recite the text and write it out, you’ve learned it fairly well. And if you can tell, in your own words, what the lesson says you’re a very successful learner indeed.Your English will be quite perfect.

This is a difficult task. However, if you try to learn by heart only part of each lesson, you’ll find it not half so hard as you might have thought.

Learning this way, you will make rapid progress. Of course, writing is also necessary. It helps you a lot on our way to success in English.

Equally important is to feel the language. You should be able to laugh at jokes and be shocked at bad news. When using English, try to forget your mother tongue. Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way. So, never try to see English through translation.

A49.In the writer’s opinion, the most effective way in learning English is ____.

A. to practise speaking, writing and feeling it

B. to forget your own native language

C. to translate everything into his own language

D. to memorize the English words and grammatical rules

B50. “Instead of helping you, your own language gets in your way.” This sentence means that memorizing

your own language can ________.

A. help you to study English well

B. stop you mastering English

C. make English easy to learn

D. help you notice mistakes

四、任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to a Chinese student they always say, “My spoken English is poor.” However, their spoken English does not have to remain “poor”!

I would like to suggest that there may be some○51reasons for their problems with spoken English.

First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to ○53a limited vocabulary. Obviously the better answer is to ○54expand(扩大,膨胀) their vocabulary. However, you can

speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive(积极的). Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.

Second, they are ○55afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be FLUENCY(流利)NOT ACCURACY(准确). Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using the right words and spelling them correctly. However,in ○56 speaking your aim is fluency. You want to get your message across to talk to someone in English, as quickly and as well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word or tense, but it doesn’t matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you and make allowances for any mistakes he hears.

The third reason is tha t not enough attention is ○57paid to listening. You have one mouth but two ears! All that ○58hearing was necessary for you to start speaking.

Fourth, most Chinese students are reactive(反应性的)○59rather than proactive(主动的) language learners. ○60Instead of actively take opportunities to improve their spoken English they

passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this proactive outlook, then you will see English opportunities wherever you go.

If you do not use your English beyond the classroom you will forget what English you know. Remember: USE IT OR LOSE IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking English

The device spins and heats the material to remove the sweat, and then passes the vapor through a special membrane(膜) designed to only let water molecules(分子) get through. Since its Monday launch, its creators say more than 1,000 people have “drunk others’ sweat" in Gothenburg. They add the liquid is cleaner than local tap water. The device was built for the United Nation's child-focused charity UNICEF to promote a campaign highlighting the fact that 780 million people in the world lack access to clean water. The machine was designed and built by engineer Andreas Hammar, known locally for his appearances on TV tech show Mekatronik. He said the critical part of the sweat machine was a new water purification component developed by a company named HVR in collaboration with Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology. "It uses a technique called membrane distillation(膜蒸馏)," he told the BBC."We use a substance that's a bit like Gortex that only lets steam through but keeps bacteria, salts, clothing fibers and other substances out."They have something similar on the International Space Station to treat astronaut's urine - but our machine was cheaper to build. Volunteers have been sampling the treated sweat since the start of the week in Gothenburg .“The amount of water it produces depends on how sweaty the person is - but one person's T-shirt typically produces 10ml , roughly a mouthful."
