Anyone can book a trip, but not everyone can plan the best adventure that’s affordable and fun. Here are tips that we’d like to share with you about hotels.

Check Distances on a Map

It’s not uncommon for hotels to slightly exaggerate(夸大) their closeness to attractions around town. If being close to a particular airport is important for your trip, confirm distances on Google Maps before you book a hotel. Be Polite to the Staff

A little niceness goes a long way, especially with hotel staff that has to deal with difficult guests’ on a regula r basis. When you check in, simply say hello to the cleaning staff when you pass them in the hall. This is not only common politeness, but it also increases your chances of getting perks(额外待遇) during your stay.

Skip the Package Deals

To appeal to new guests, some hotels will offer themed package deals(主题套餐) that sound exciting but may not be worth it. Sometimes these packages include things you don’t want or need and the special rate could be higher than the regular rate.

Ask about Parking

Especially when you stay in large cities, parking costs really add up. Look for hotels offering parking rates. If parking is expensive, apps like Best Parking can help you find nearby parking lots at cheaper rates if you don’t mind waking a bit.

We hope that you can find the tips on this page. Please visit us again to keep getting the best deals and travel tips.

China’s water towns prove there are some places left in China that still have dreamy beauty —a welcome sight in a country that often feels like a giant construction site. Unlike Venice, which works very hard to attract a lot of travelers, the Chinese towns offer crowd-free trips back in time

Hongcun Ancient Village

With Mount Huangshan as the head, the lake-filled town as the body and ancient bridges as legs, this is a unique beast. The most special structure in the thousand-person village is Chengzhi Hall, a country palace built in 1855.

Tai’erzhuang

In 2009, a US $743.54 million restoration (重建) project was carried out by the local government. And Tai'erzhuang in east China was able to restore its classic architecture to the condition it was in during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Despite the small size, Tai'erzhuang has a number of traditional temples, waterways and museums. The two-square-kilometer town makes for a nice day trip from the Chinese capital.

Zhouzhuang

Despite its population of 138,000 people—tiny by Chinese standards—the town's location near Shanghai and Suzhou makes it easy to reach for short visits. Visitors pass through shops on the way to the town's two main sites, Quanfu Temple and Chengxu Temple. A boat ride through town costs around US $16 (100 yuan). Traditional Chinese folk music sung by boatmen is for free.

Huangyao Ancient Town

Huangyao Ancient Town lies in a river bend(河湾), which is believed to prevent the locals’ good fortune from flowing away. While wealthy in the past, the town developed slowly over a 1000-year history. Today, it's home to only 600 families. Located in Guangxi, Huangyao covers 360,000 square meters surrounded by mountains, which have plenty of large caves open for exploration.

C. Zhouzhuang.

(英语)高三英语阅读理解专项训练及答案

(英语)高三英语阅读理解专项训练及答案 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 The setting was a packed gymnasium just before the start of a game against another school. There were five girls who were members of the Danville High School basketball team—all of them starters. They were not in uniform to play that night and would not be on the team for the rest of this season. They were there to admit their breaking of team rules. They were there to support their coach's decision to take them off the team. They were there to let the town know there was a problem in their little community that needed to be addressed. And they did it with sincere regret rather than defensiveness. While the school had been out for the New Year's holiday, the five girls had gone to the party with several of their friends. There was alcohol there. And they all drank some. Coach Rainville has a zero tolerance rule on drugs and alcohol for her members though it was a hard decision to make. When classes resumed and accounts of holiday parties were shared, rumors about the five girls began closing in on them. The coach said she couldn't back down on her rules. And the players—two junior students and three senior students—agreed. That night in the gym was part of their public support of the coach's decision. “We hope you will understand that we are not bad kids. What we did was definitely not worth it. We hope this event will make everyone realize that there is a big drug and alcohol problem in our community,” one of the senior students said, “And if you work with us to try to solve this problem, you will help us feel that we have not been thrown off our basketball team for nothing.” The five left the floor to deafening applause. The team may not win another game this year. But they've learnt something about personal responsibility, the effect of one's action on others, and honesty that will serve them well throughout life. (1)It can be inferred from the passage that the five girls who were kicked off the team were ________. A. very good players on the team B. addicted to alcohol and drugs C. three junior students and two senior students D. scolded by their parents for drinking alcohol (2)What did the girls do to support their coach's decision? A. They didn't fight for Danville High School any more. B. They all gave speeches to apologize in the local press. C. They admitted their mistake in public in the gymnasium. D. They would never drink any alcohol throughout their life. (3)Which word best describes the coach Rainville? A. Indifferent. B. Strict. C. Stubborn. D. Cruel. (4)Which would be the best title for the passage? A. Growing up with pain B. A bad mistake C. Team rules are everything D. Basketball girls in high school 【答案】(1)A

高三英语阅读理解专项训练100(附答案)含解析

高三英语阅读理解专项训练100(附答案)含解析 一、高中英语阅读理解 1.阅读理解 When you go to the doctor, you like to come away with a prescription. It makes you feel better to know you will get some medicine. But the doctor knows that medicine is not always needed. Sometimes all a sick person needs is some reassurance that all will be well. In such cases the doctor may prescribe a placebo. A placebo is a sugar pill, a harmless shot, or ail empty capsule. Even though they have no medicine in them, these things seem to make people well. The patient thinks it is medicine and begins to get better. How does this happen? The study of the placebo opens up new knowledge about the way the human body can heal itself. It is as if there was a doctor in each of us. The doctor will heal the body for us if we let it. But it is not yet known just how the placebo works to heal the body. Some people say it works because the human mind fools itself. These people say that if the mind is fooled into thinking it got medicine, then it will act as if it did, and the body will feel better. Placebos do not always work. The success of this treatment seems to rest a lot with the relationship between the patient and the doctor. If the patient has a lot of trust in the doctor and if the doctor really wants to help the patient, then the placebo is more likely to work. So in a way, the doctor is the most powerful placebo of all. A placebo can also have bad effects. If patients expect a bad reaction to medicine, then they will also show a bad reaction to the placebo. This would seem to show that a lot of how you react to medicine is in your mind rather than in your body. Some doctors still think that if the placebo can have bad effects it should never be used. They think there is still not enough known about it. The strange power of the placebo does seem to suggest that the human mind is stronger than we think it is. There are people who say you can heal your body by using your mind. And the interesting thing is that even people who swear this is not possible have been healed by a placebo. (1)What do we know about placebo according to the passage? A. It contains some sort of medicine. B. It won't function if you are negative about medicine. C. People who don't believe placebo can't be healed by it. D. Patients and doctors know clearly how it helps to heal the body. (2)Why is the doctor sometimes the most powerful placebo? A. The patient needs help badly. B. The patient believes in the doctor. C. The doctor knows better about your body. D. The doctor has carefully studied medicine. (3)What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A. The placebo. B. The bad effect. C. The body. D. The medicine.(4)What is the passage mainly about? A. Placebo:Work on Your Mind B. Placebo:The Most Powerful Medicine

Keith Oatley,Professor of Psychology at Glasgow University,is involved in the research which shows the fundamental importance of emotions. He believes we are very ambivalent about them:we think of our emotions as being unreasonable, but we also consider them as essential to being human. For example,Mr Spock,a character in the television series Star Trek,is superintelligent and he has no emotions at all. However,he is never made captain of the spaceship.Maybe, this is because Mr Spock is not the kind of person you can share your feelings with—a person who shows his emotions. As Professor Oatley points out,our emotions have very important functions, for example, fear. If we cross the road and a car approaches,we usually stop moving or step back.We stop what we are doing, check what we have done and pay very careful attention to the environment. The emotion of fear makes us take this small series of actions which,on average, help preserve our safety. On the other hand,if things are going well and small problems come up,we find we can solve them with the resources we have to hand.As a consequence,we tend to feel happy and usually continue doing the job. Anger is an emotion that tends to occur when someone is preventing us from doing something. Then this small “kit” of reactions enables us to prepare ourselves to be quite aggressive to that person,or to try harder, and so on. Professor Oatley believes emotions generally occur at these important moments in actions. With fear and anger our emotions make us decide to start doing something else, while with happiness they “suggest” we continue what we are already doing. 1.What’s Keith Oatley’s opinion about emotions? A.They affect reasonable thought. B.They get us into trouble. C.They are helpful to us. D.They are reasonable. 2.What does the underlined part “we are very ambivalent about them”in Paragraph 2 mean? A.We have contradictory feelings towards emotions. B.We have similar ideas of emotions.

新高考英语阅读理解解析版汇编(48)

2017高考英语阅读理解解析版汇编(48) 阅读理解。 An idea that started in Seattle's public library has spread throughout America and beyond. The concept is simple: help to build a sense of community in a city by getting everyone to read the same book at the same tome. In addition to encouraging reading as a pursuit (追求) to be enjoyed by all, the program allows strangers to communicate by discussing the book on the bus, as well as promoting reading as an experience to be shared in families and schools. The idea came from Seattle librarian Nancy Pearl who launched (发起)the "If All of Seattle Read the Same Book " project in 1998. Her original program used author visits, study guides and book discussion groups to bring people together with a book, but the idea has since expanded to many other American cities, and even to Hong Kong. In Chicago, the mayor(市长)appeared on television to announce the choice of To Kill a Mockingbird as the first book in the "One Book, One Chicago" program. As a result, reading clubs and neighbourhood groups sprang up around the city. Across the US, stories emerged of parents and children reading to each other at night and strangers chatting away on the bus about plot and character. The only problem arose in New York, where local readers could not decide on one book to represent the huge and diverse population. This may show that the idea works best in medium-sized cities or large towns, where a greater sense of unity(一致)can be achieved .Or it may show that New Yorkers rather missed the point ,putting all their energy And passion into the choice of the book rather than discussion about a book itself. Ultinatel was Nancy points out, the level of success is not measured by how many people read a book, but by how many people are enriched by the process. or have enjoyed speaking to someone with whom they would not otherwise have shared a word. ( ) 1. What is the purpose of the project launched by Nancy? A. To invite authors to guide readers.
