It is almost 40 that he could stand the horror(恐惧)in the darkness for so long. Even more surprising was his 41 : “First of all I checked up my 42 conditions and found myself not in fatal danger. As there was no 43 to call for help, I leaned back in my seat trying my best to keep the wound from 44 . In this way I dozed off.”

His story put an end to my regret for the 45 of an exploration adventure that happened last year. A group of young men 46 to explore a mountain cave and got lost. 47 to find a way out in the dark cave they were frightened and ran anxiously without a sense of 48 . If they stayed on the spot when they lost their way and tried to 51 themselves, they would probably sense a faint light shining not far away.

Don’t you think that you can compare it with 52 itself? When you meet with obstacles (障碍) in life and work, you are lost in darkness. 53 you it’s unclear yet and you needn’t put up struggle 54 . It seems to be a negative attitude, 55 a person who can afford to do so must have foresight as well as a great courage in the first place.

Scientists are trying to make the deserts into good land again. They want to bring water to the deserts, so people can live and grow food. They are learning a lot about the deserts. But more and more of the earth is becoming desert all the time. Scientists may not be able to change the desert in time.

Why is more and more land becoming desert? Scientists think that people make deserts. People are doing bad things to the earth.

Some places on the earth don’t get much rain. But they still don’t become deserts. This is because some green plants are growing there. Small green plants and grass are very important to dry places. Plants don’t let the sun make the earth even drier. Plants don’t let the wind blow the dirt away. When a bit of rain falls, the plants hold the water. Without plants, the land can become desert more easily.

56. Deserts ________.

A. never have any plants or animals in them

B. can all be turned into good land before long

C. are becoming smaller and smaller

D. get very little rain

57. Small green plants are very important to dry places because ________.

A. they don’t let the sun make the earth drier

B. they don’t let the wind blow the earth away

C. they hold water

D. all of the above

58. Land is becoming desert little by little because _______.

A. plants can’t grow there

B. there is not enough rain

C. people haven’t done what scientists wish them to do

D. scientists know little about the deserts

59. Which is the main idea of the first paragraph?

Smile , when making an introduction.

Every day we meet people in a number of business and social situations. And the way we meet and greet them creates an impression. It's important to do so in a proper way, no matter whether you are introducing yourself to someone ,or introducing two people to each other. To keep you aware of this, we have gathered tips on how to make a proper introduction.

☆Always stand when making an introduction.

When you are seated and someone comes up to greet you ,make the effort to stand up. By doing this, you show respect for yourself and for the other person.

☆Always maintain eye contact while making an introduction.

Many people are not aware of the value of this simple action. When you make eye contact you are giving a confident image.

☆Always introduce a person of lesser authority to one of greater authority. The most important thing to remember is to say the most important person's name first. For example ,when introducing your supervisor(监督人) to a job candidate, you would give your supervisor's name first." Bob Jones, may I introduce Susan Lee, who has just graduated from ABC University?"

☆In a situation where rank is unimportant ,an introduction is based on sex and age .A man is presented to a woman and younger woman to an older woman.

What if you find yourself in a situation where you have forgotten the other person's name? Start with a handshake and reintroduce yourself .By doing this ,you will usually cause the other person to do the same.

However, if the other person does not take your suggestion, it is OK simply to apologize and let the person know that you cannot remember her or his name. This is not the ideal situation, of course ,but it does happen to all of us. The other person should be forgiving.

60.The article gives you advice on____.

A. how to make a self-introduction

B. how to make a proper introduction

C. how to leave a good impression on people

D. how to greet people in social situations

61.According to the passage ,people will think you are _________if you don't make eye contact

with them.

A. not honest

B. not confident

C. shy

D. unfriendly

62.What should you do when you introduce a new worker to your boss?

A. You should not give your boss' name.

B. You should give the new worker's name first.

C. You needn't give your boss' name.

D. You should give your boss' name first.

63.If you forget the other person's name, you'd better___.

A. ask him/her directly

B. apologize first and then ask him/her

What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person a genius(天才), like the brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid, or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? These are very old questions and the answers to them are still not clear.

We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. It needs exercise. Mental (done with the mind) exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists (心理学家) think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about. The children are then more likely to grow up bright and intelligent. If, on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do, they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.

Parents should also be careful about what they say to young children. According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive (helpful) things to their children, such as “That was a very clever thing you did.” or “You are such a smart child.”

68. A person _______ is more likely to become a genius.

A. whose parents are clever

B. often thinking about difficult problems

C. often helped by his parents and teachers

D. born with a good brain and putting it to active use

69. It is better for parents _______.

A. to praise and encourage their children more often

B. to be hard on their children

C. to leave their children alone with nothing to do

D. to give their children as much help as possible

70. Which of the following is not true according to the article?

A. Parents play an important part in their children’s growth.

B. The less you use your mind the duller you may become.

C. Intelligence is obviously the result of where and how you live.

D. Just being born with a good mind is not enough.

第Ⅱ卷

第四部分.任务型阅读:请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的词,每空一分,共10分。

We are going to describe one way to build a rooftop( 屋顶外部) garden that does not even require soil. Several things are needed for a small rooftop garden. One thing is a strong roof that can support the weight. Another is grass cutting. The third thing is a sheet of plastic which can prevent possible leaks(渗漏). And the last thing is a box about eight centimeters deep and made out of four pieces of wood.

Once you are sure the roof is okay, cut and collect some grass. Then lay down the plastic where the garden box will go. The four-sided box can be as long and as wide as needed. Place the box on top of the sheet of plastic. Then fill it with the cut grass. Next, add water and walk on

BatchDoc-Word文档批量处理工具

the cuttings to press them down.

After about three weeks, the rooftop garden is ready for planting. Put the seeds directly into the wet grass cuttings. This garden is a good place to grow peas, tomatoes, beans, onions and lettuce(莴苣). If the box is deep enough, potatoes and carrots will also grow.

It is important to keep the grass wet until the plants begin to grow. When the plants are growing, they will need watering every day, unless there is rain. And they will need some liquid fertilizer(肥料), which should be applied frequently and properly. Also, seeds and new plants must be protected from insects and birds.

Rooftop gardens are increasingly popular, and not just to grow vegetables. They keep buildings cooler in the sun, so they save energy. They can also extend the useful life of a roof. Rooftop gardens also reduce the runoff of storm water and help clean the air.

书面表达(15分)

Dear editor,

I am writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had about the relationship between economic development and environment protection.

Some students believe we should never sacrifice environment for economy. They think the present environmental problems are largely caused by rapid economic development. For example, farmable land is decreasing because of the industrial development and the development of cities.

However, other students think it unnecessary to consider environmental problems now and economic development comes first. They believe that environmental problems are only the by-products of economic development, which are unavoidable. They can be dealt with later when we have the time and money.

I think the second view is completely wrong. The purpose of economic development is to provide a comfortable and happy life for our people. We should aim at sustainable development and a balance between the two.

Yours,

Li Hua
