Part Ⅳ

Error Correction (15 minutes)

We are all naturally attracted to people with ideas,

beliefs and interests like our own. Similarly, we

feel comfortable with people with physical qualities

similar as ours. --71--

You may have noticed about how people who live or work --72--

closely together come to behave in a similar way.

Unconsciously we copy these we are close to or love --73--

or admire. So a sportsman’s individual way of walking

with raised shoulders is imitated by an admired fan; --74--

a pair or lovers both shake their heads in the same

way; an employer finds himself duplicating his boss’s --75--

habit of wagging (摆动) a pen between his fingers while thinking.

In every case, the influential person may consciously --76--

notice the imitation but he will feel comfortably in --77--

its presence. And if he does notice the matching of

his gestures or movements, he finds it pleasing he

is influencing people: they are drawn to them. --78--

Sensitive people have been mirroring their friend and --79--

acquaintances all their lives., and winning affection

and respect in this way without aware of their methods. --80--

Now, for people who want to win agreement or trust,

affection or sympathy, some psychologists recommend

the deliberate use of physical imitation.

答案:

71.as改为to。Similar(相似的)与介词to连用,表示“与…相似”。

72.去掉about。notice为及物动词,后面直接接宾语。

73.these改为those。

78.them改为him。

22 Section B 0 Graying Population Stays in the Pink A)Elderly people are growing healthier, happier and more independent, say American scientists. The results of a 14-year study to be announced later this month reveal that the diseases associated with old age are afflicting fewer and fewer people and when they do strike, it is much later in life. B)In the last 14 years, the National Long-term Health Care Survey has gathered data on the health and lifestyles of more than 20,000 men and women over 65. Researchers, now analysing the results of data gathered in 1994, say arthritis, high blood pressure and circulation problems—the major medical complaints in this age group are troubling a smaller proportion every year. And the data confirms that the rate at which these diseases are declining continues to accelerate. Other diseases of old age— dementia, stroke, arteriosclerosis and emphysema—are also troubling fewer and fewer people. C)"It really raises the question of what should he considered normal ageing", says Kenneth Manton, a demographer from Duke University in North Carolina. He says the problems doctors accepted as normal in a 65-year-old in 1982 are often not appearing until people are 70 or 75. D)Clearly, certain diseases are beating a retreat in the face of medical advances. But there may be other contributing factors. Improvements in childhood nutrition in the first quarter of the twentieth century, for example, gave today's elderly people a better start in life than their predecessors. E)On the downside, the data also reveals failures in public health that have caused surges in some illnesses. An increase in some cancers and bronchitis may reflect changing smoking habits and poorer air quality, say the researchers. "These may be subtle influences", says Manton, "but our subjects have been exposed to worse and worse pollution for over 60 years. It' s not surprising we see some effect". F)One interesting correlation Manton uncovered is that better-educated people are likely to live longer. For example, 65-year-old women with fewer than eight years of schooling are expected, on average, to live to 82. Those who continued their education live an extra seven years. Although some of this can be attributed to a higher income, Manton believes it is mainly because educated people seek more medical attention. G)The survey also assessed how independent people over 65 were, and again found a striking trend. Almost 80% of those in the 1994 survey could complete everyday activities ranging from eating and dressing unaided to complex tasks such as cooking and managing their finances.

Previous spaceships have been abandoned, only the nose being used to bring the crews back to earth.[4] Upon established, each space station will [5] generate its own atmosphere and have its own agriculture. It will need to rotation to provide [6] an artificial gravity; people will be forced inwards [7] from the centre by centrifugal force. The moon and Mars could become new sources of new materials. 2019 英语六级阅读模拟试题及答案( 3 )Passage One Questions 56 to 60 are based on the following passage. Caught in a squeeze between the health needs of aging populations on one hand and the financial crisis on the other, governments everywhere are looking for ways to slow the growth in health-care spending. Increasingly, they are looking to the generic-drugs ( 普通药物 ) industry as a savior. In November Japan's finance ministry issued a report complaining that the country's use of generics was less than a third of that in America or Britain. In the same month Canada's competition watchdog criticized the country's pharmacies for failing to pass on the savings made possible by the use of generic drugs. That greed, it reckoned, costs taxpayers nearly C$1 billion a year. Then on November 28th the European Commission issued the preliminary results of its year-long probe into drug giants in the European Union. The report reached a damning~, though provisional, conclusion:the drugs firms use a variety of unfair strategies to protect their expensive drugs by delaying the entry of cheaper generic opponents. Though this initial report does not carry the force of law (a final report is due early next year), it has caused much controversy. Neelie Kroes, the EU's competition commissioner, says she is ready to take legal action if the evidence allows. One strategy the investigators criticize is the use of the "patent duster( 专利群 )". A firm keen to defend its drug due to go off-patent may file dozens or hundreds of new

It is no longer the infant colony, peopled byBritish convicts2 and pioneers, but a maturing, perhaps still somewhat adolescent individual, ruggedly steering a vital new course in life. Australia is a sprawl of rock and desert, fringed with lush valleys, snow fields, coralspectaculars, storm-stabbed cliffs and rolling beaches, a land rich in minerals, colors, curiousflora 3, 230 species of mammals4 , 700 of birds, 400 of reptiles, 70 of amphibia, 2, 200 of fishand 50 , 000 species of insects — and seemingly infinite space .
