Santa Claus is someone who will remain in the hearts of children forever.

Santa C1aus also has some other names: Saint Nicholas, St. Nick, Kris Kringle, Pelznickel. Two of his names-Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas-both come from the Dutch who settled in New York long ago. The Dutch honored this kindly saint with a yearly festival on December sixth. The Dutch spoke the name “Saint Nikolas” very fast. It sounded like “interclass”. And so, when the English said this word, it sounded like “Santa Claus”.

West of New York, in Pennsylvania, many German farmers had also heard of Saint Nikolas. But they cal1ed him “Pelznickel”. This word came from “pelz”, meaning fur, and “nickel” for Nicholas. So, to the Germans of Pennsylvania,“Pelznickel” was a man dressed in fur who came once a year with gifts for good children. Soon, people began to feel that the 1ove and kindness Pelznickel brought should be part of a celebration honoring the “Christkindl”, as the Germans ca1led the Christ child. After a time, this became Kris Kringle. Later, Kris Kringle became another name for Santa Claus himself.

Whatever he is called, he is still the same short, fat, jolly old man with a long beard, wearing a red suit with white fur.

The picture of Santa Claus as we see him came from Thomas Nast. He was an American painter born in Bavaria. Someone asked him to paint a picture of Santa Claus. Nast remembered when he was a little boy in southern Germany Every Christmas,a fat old man gave toys and cakes to the children. So, when Nast painted the picture, his Santa Claus looked like the kindly old man of his childhood. And through the years, Nast’s painting has remained as the most popular picture of Santa Claus.

Many children first learn the value of money by receiving an allowance. The purpose is to let children learn from experience at an age when financial mistakes are not very costly. The amount of money that parents give to their children to spend as they wish differs from family to family.

At first, young children may spend all of their allowance in no time.If they do this, they will learn the hard way that spending must be done within a budget, which demands choices between spending and saving.Older children may be responsible enouth to save money for larger costs, like clothing or electronics.

But it is not a good idea to pay your child for work around the home. These jobs are a normal part of family life. Paying children to do extra work around the house, however, can be useful. It can even provide an understanding of how a business works.

Allowances give children a chance to experience the things they can do with money. They can share it in the form of gifted or giving to a good cause. They can spend it by buying things they want. Or they can save and maybe even invest it. Saving helps children understand that costly goals require sacrifice: you have to cut costs and plan for the future.

Many banks offer services to help children and teenagers learn about Personal. Finance. A savings account is an excellent way to learn about the power of compound interest.

Compounding works by paying interest on interest. So, for example, one dollar invested at two percent interest for two years will earn two cents in the first year. The second year, the money will earn two percent of one dollar and two cents, and so on. [l] Children with autism(自闭症) have difficulty with social skills and communication.

[2] Autism is more common in boys than girls. What causes it is not clear. Scientists are studying genes and possible environmental influences. Doctors usually cannot confirm a diagnosis of autism until a child is about three years old. Researchers want to find out what differences in development might be seen earlier.

[3] At six months of age, the signs of some risk for developing autism include motor delays.Like when you lay your baby on their back and you pull them by the arms gently into a seated position the baby’s head may nod back behind the shoulders, like poor head control. That does not mean that the baby is going to have autism, but it does mean the baby needs to have some exercises to strengthen their body. And when they strengthen their body, they are better

able to play with toys and engage with people, which then goes on the help them have better outcomes.By the time a baby is one year old, signs of possible autism include difficulty in using words and not looking eye-to-eye or reaching out to other people.By 14 months, the baby might smile less and use language less. However, these signs can be so small that they might be missed during a short health exam.

[4] It’s important for parents to stay tuned in to their children’s development. The earier parents notice the delays, that may help improve their child’s development. For example: talking to the child about what they are doing, commenting when the child shows them something, and p1aying simple games that keep the child’s attention.

A Need a fall fix? Try one from these great places. 1. Mackinac Island, Michigan The only way to reach this famed car-free island is by boat and ferry, and once visitors arrive, they're attracted by. the history, scenery and fall colors. "It's a throwback to years past, a little town, and there's a big state park as well," Blackwell says.“You're allowed to have boats all around the island." 2. Tellico Lake, Tennessee With nearly 400 miles of shoreline, this waterway flowing out of the Great Smoky Mountains is largely unexploited, well-protected in its natural state. Fall visitors find a range of colors reflecting in the clean water, says Blackwell, who vacationed in the area-with his family as a child.“The thick forest there just allows you to see more greenery and wildlife. 3. Dillon Reservoir, Colorado With an hour from Denver, this lake is home to what claims to be the nation's highest sailing club, at an altitude of more than 9,000 feet. Marinas in the towns of Dillon and Frisco make it easy to get out on the water and to see the bright yellows and golds of fall leaves.“People are surprised that there's boating in Colorado, and you can see the mountains just before the snowfall," Blackwell says. 4. Lake Monroe, Indiana The state's largest lake is surrounded by more than 13,000 acres of protected forest and three recreation areas, making it an ideal place to see fall colors, particularly from oaks and the tulip poplar, the state tree. " I's a gem(宝石)in southern Indiana" says Blackwell, who grew up in the area. "There are lots of different activities: canoeing, kayaking and fishing. 1. What is special about Mackinac island? A.It's like a modern city, B.Visitors can't take boats around it.

This link could be deeply rooted in our evolutionary past when help with childcare was important for the survival of the human species,” said Sonja Hilbrand, one of the researchers. However, having full-time custody of grandchildren may harm their health. The findings are drawn from data on more than 500 people over age 70 in the Berlin aging Study. The participants completed interviews and medical 1ests every two years. Overall after considering grandparents age and general state of health, the risk of dying was one-third lower for grandparents who cared for their grandchildren, compared with grandparents who didn’t provide any childcare. Half of the grandparents who cared for grandchildren were still alive ten years after the initial interview. The same was true for participants who did not have grandchildren but supported their adult children in some way, such as helping with housework.
