【Abstract】pragmatics has gotten more and more attention since its decades’ long history.As a branch of studying linguistics, the studying of Pragmatics is focusing on how to understanding and using language in special context, and to achieve the purpose that using foreign language to communicate.Pragmatics makes a new road to solve this problem.This paper is focusing on the relationship between pragmatics and foreign language teaching, the using and the enlightenment.Then we can get more methods to improve the foreign language teaching.

1.Introduction

The relationship between human beings is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a cross cultural phenomenon.There is a big difference between Chinese environment and English speaking national cultural environment.As a foreign language leaner, only do well in phonetics, grammar,and vocabulary can not make successful communication in cross cultural communication.The studying on pragmatics has over 30 year’s in our country.Foreign language scholars are especially concerned about the application of pragmatics in foreign language teaching.The theories of pragmatics help a lot in language teaching.

2.The Using of Pragmatics Theory in Language Teaching

2.1 The application of the cooperation principle in English listening teaching

Listening is also a very important part in the teaching of English, and an important standard to measure a personal language comprehensive ability.This is the cooperative principle in the application of English listening as below.

E.g.A: What do you think of my new shirt?

B: Oh, you are very beautiful today.

From this example,B’s answer is a violation of the principle of cooperation relationships criterion.But though the analysis we can find B’s reaction is the right answer to A’s word, so only on the surface of A’s violation of the relation criterio n, in fact,it is the just answer to A’s problem,and make reaction the intention of the talk.So in the listening teaching, teachers should pay attention to the use of the theory of pragmatics, combined with pragmatics knowledge, guide students see their rich content inner contains through the language material.
