Scientists think that a game like bowling was played in Egypt thousands of years ago. Toys that look like a ball and bowling pins(木柱) were found buried(埋葬) with a child who died around 5200 B.C.

People who study history know that the game was popular in Germany around 200-300 A.D. It was played by people in some churches in order to show that they were good Christians. When people bowled poorly, they had to go to churches more often.

The first indoor bowling center was built in England in 1455. Then the game was taken to the US where most people played it outside.

During the 1800s, many people in the US began to bowl for money, so several cities made the game illegal (违法的). Many people kept on bowling illegally. A group named the American Bowling Congress (ABC) began around 1900. The job of this group was to clean up bowling and make it a gentlemen’s game again.

At that time, the game was mostly played by men. If women played, they wore a veil(面罩) up so that the men weren’t able to see them.

Then, in 1916, a woman’s group named the Women’s National Bowling Association made a point of showing that the game was fine for both men and women.

There are no peasants(农民) in Britain. People who are working on a farm are called farm workers. The farmer pays workers every week. There are not many workers on a farm. The farmers have many machines. The machines do most of the work. A farm with four workers is a big farm, and a farm with one worker is a small farm.

Britain does not grow rice. The summer is not hot enough. The most important grain crop in Britain is wheat(小麦). Wheat and other crops grow best in the east of Britain. In the west, there is a lot of rain. There grass grows very well. So, in the west of Britain, most farms are animal farms. They are not crop farms. The British winter is warm and the grass grows all the year round. The animals live out in the fields and on the highlands all the year round. The British people eat lots of meat and drink lots of milk. Cattle give milk and meat, and sheep give meat. Cattle and sheep farms are in the west. Pigs are on farms here and there.

Britain can now produce about half of its food. However, it doesn’t produce enough wheat, so some wheat is imported(进口) from other countries. Britain must also import hot climate food, such as rice, tea, coffee and so on. True (T) or False (F).

Dear Alan, Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live in. I am excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help? I am not sure whether I will live in a house or in an apartment. On the one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment, On the other hand, if I rent a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can not live with someone who is loud and messy. I do not have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location. I probably need to look for somewhere near a bus stop or an underground station. That way I will have more time to study and spend less time travelling. I'm looking forward to your reply. Love, Victor (1)Victor feels excited because he can decide where to live. (2)Victor wants to share the house with a(an)neat and quiet person. (3)If Victor finds a roommate, he will waste money. (4)Victor doesn't have a car, so he wants a two-bed-room apartment (5)Victor also needs to think carefully about the location. I have a chance to choose my new place to live in.

教学模式总结如下: Presentation(导入)——skimming(粗读)——listening and reading(听读)——scanning (跳读)——intensive reading(细读)——retelling(复述)——discussing(讨论)——writing (写作)——summary(小结)。 What does Wang Kun do? Where is she now? What’s the article mainly about? Step 3:Listening and reading How many table manners are mentioned in the passage ? What are they ? be supposed to do be not supposed to do Step 5:Intensive reading 1、Why was Wang Kun nervous before she arrived in France? 2、Why did she have no reason to be nervous? 3、How has her French improved? 4、What is one particular challenge she is facing?

Passage 1 If you look at the sky one night and see something moving and shining that you have never seen before, it might be a comet (彗星). A comet sometimes looks like a star. Like a planet, a comet has no light of its own. It shines from the sunlight it reflects (反射). Like the earth, a comet goes round the sun, but on a much longer path (轨道) than the earth travels. If a comet isn’t a sta r, what is it then? Some scientists think that a large part of a comet is water frozen into pieces of ice and mixed with iron and rock dust and perhaps a few big pieces of rock. When sunshine melts (融化) the ice in the comet, great clouds of gas go trailing after it. These clouds, together with the dust, form a long tail. Many people perhaps have seen a comet. However no one knows how many comets there are. There may be millions of comets, but only a few come close enough for us to see. An Englishman named Edmund Halley, who lived from 1656 to 1742, found out a lot about the paths that comets take through the sky. Some comets move out of our sight and never come back. Others keep coming back at regular times. A big comet that keeps coming back was named after Halley because

抓住四个"W"和一个"H",就是边读边用铅笔做些标记,把What (事件),When (时间),Where(地点),Why(原因),How(经过)划出来。

What subject do you worry about the most at school? Many students worry about math. Some students can't sleep well the day before a math exam. Others may feel very nervous during the exam itself. But there might be a way to make the subject less stressful(压力大的). "For people who are worried about math, posture (姿势)makes a big difference," Erik Paper from San Francisco State University told the Daily Mail. That's right – sitting up straight can help you do better on math exams. Scientists tested 125 college students. They asked them to do a simple math exam while sitting in a slumped-over (趴倒的)posture, or sitting up straight.
