1.短语小结

Unit1

due to=owing to=because of由于，因为make up编造，弥补，整理，组成

give up 放弃look into 调查

step up加快，提高take charge of=be in charge of 负责

show up 出现，露面put on 播放

take steps采取措施，步骤keep/ be in step with 与…保持同步，跟上…的步伐be similar to/in与…相似/在…方面相似make a difference to 对…产生影响，起作用convince sb of sth / that使某人相信，确信turn up出现，发现，调大

go missing=go lost 失踪search for sb./sth. 搜寻某人或某事

in search of/in one’s search for 寻找go straight to 径直去…

get ready for 准备好去… show sb. around 带某人参观

have /find/show/take (an/no) interest in 对…有/无兴趣develop (one’s) interest in培养对..的兴趣arous e/stimulate one’s interest in … 激发对……的兴趣lose interest (in)对…失去兴趣in the interest(s) of sb./sth.为了某人的利益; 为某事的缘故see+sb./sth.+ do/doing/done: watch, look at, hear, listen to , notice, feel ,observe; have(使，让)等动词与see有这种相同用法。

Not…until/ It is(was) not until that…直到..才

research (into/on) sth.; do/ carry out /make research into/ on 对……进行研究

倒装句常见句型归纳：

1) 地点状语+谓语（vi.）+主语，但主语为代词时不能用倒装。

Here comes the bus./ South of the city lies a big shoe factory./Here it is.

2) （半）否定词+助动词/be+主语，但in no time在句首时后面不能用倒装。

（半）否定词如neither; nor; not until …; not only … but also …; never; seldom; hardly … when …; no sooner … than …; at no time; by no means …

Eg.直到昨天我才知道这条消息。

Not until yesterday did I get the news.

3) 表语/状语/动词原形+as(虽然)+主语+谓语部分，

Child as he is, he knows a lot./Much as I like it, I won’t buy it.

Try as he did, he failed again.

4) So（如此）+adj./adv.+助动词/be+主语; so+助动词/be+主语（……也这样）; so +主语+助动词/be (……是这样的)

So excited were we at that time that we didn’t know what to say.

Mary works hard and so does her partner.

A: Mary works very hard.

B: So she does.

5) only+状语+助动词/be+主语

Only when taken according to the directions will the medicine work well .

Unit2

be busy with/ (in) doing忙于做某事in advance=ahead of time提前，预先

arrange sth for sb 为某人安排某事arrange for sb to do sth安排某人做某事

in case 以防，以防万一in case of sth. 如果，假使in any case 无论如何，不管怎样in no case 无论如何不，决不in that case 在那种情况下，如果那样的话…

为某人提供某物/提供某物给某人

supply sb with sth supply sth to sb

offer sb sth offer sth to sb

provide sb with sth provide sth for sb

supply/ meet/ satisfy one’s need for sth 满足某人对某物的需要

be scared of sth/ to do sth害怕做某事even though=even if即使

scare…away 把…吓跑feel sick 感到恶心，不舒服

be tired of sth/doing sth厌烦，厌倦做某事up close靠近地

be curious about sth. 对(某事物)感到好奇be curious to (do) sth. 很想(做)；渴望做

set sail for sp. 启程去某地preserve sth./ sb. from… 保护……免于…

be known for … 因为……而闻名be known as … 作为……而闻名

be known to … 对于（谁）而闻名make a discovery of … 发现了…

come across=run into 偶然遇到或发现…go out熄灭；出去；衰退，过时

by coincidence 碰巧What a coincidence (it is) to do sth.! 真是巧合…

It is a coincidence that … 真是太巧了……（从句中常用should情态动词，表示惊讶）

If possible/necessary = If (it is) possible/necessary 如果可能/必要的话

Where/When necessary = Where/When (it is/they’re ) necessary必要的地方或时候

result in=lead to导致，加结果result from 由…引起，加原因

as well as 除了…以外，不但…而且和…一样only to do 表结果，做结果状语

be in connection with 与…有联系desire to do/for sth/sth 渴望做…

apply to sb./sth. for sth. ~ to do sth向某人申请某事/申请做某事

apply sth. to sth 把…应用于…look up to sb 钦佩；仰慕；尊敬

take /gain control of /over sb. /sth.掌管…lose control of/over sb./sth. 失去了对…控制keep control of 控制住…be under control…被控制住

bring /get/ keep sth. under control 使…得以控制住beyond one’s contr ol 无法控制
