Now please look carefully at the 4 photoswhere there are 4 figurescoming from 4 different areas in China. Will you be able to guess where their hometown is from what you see in each photo? Well,Your answers maybe correct. However from the perspective of language, the expressions you use may seem monotonous(单调的、无变化的)In addition to "sb. is from...","sb. comes from...",are there any other ways of expressing such an idea?Yes actually, there are plenty of other commonly used expressions such as I grew up in … ,I am native of… ,I was born and bred in…, I was born and raised in… Now let’s take a listen to an audio clip(音频片段)where 5 people are talking about their respective hometowns. Please match what you hear with the questions and find out the question they each answered. Pay special attention to what aspects they each talked about with regard to their hometown.

The first speaker said My home town is a medium-sized market town(中型小镇). It is about 100 km from the capital city. It’s on a river and quite n ear the mountains. About 10000 people live there. A lot of people from the town work in the sugar factory. She was answering question 5 What kind of place is your home town or village? In turn she talked aboutthe location, population and main industry of her hometown. The second speaker said What I like most about my village is the people. They are so friendly. Everyone knows everyone else. That makes you feel very safe and comfortable. Her focus is the people in her hometown. It is not difficult to tell from the sentence pattern What I like most about my home town is the... that he was answering question 3 What do you like most about your hometown or village? The third speaker mentioned the fact that the traffic in his hometown is getting worse eve ry year and so it’s almost impossible to cross the road in the town centre during the day and the parking is terrible. Those are negative aspects he dislikes about his hometown. The fourth speaker said visitors will find the old buildings very interesting. There is an ancient church with beautiful paintings on the walls inside. Visitors come from a long distance to see those. Also the town hall is very impressive. He was talking about where to go in his hometown and the places he highly recommend are landmark buildings(标志性建筑). The fifth speaker believes that sports and entertainment facilities in his hometown need improving for the reason that if young people want a good night out, They have to catch the train to the nearest town. There is only one old cinema And a couple of football pitches(足球场)in the town. She described cultural and recreational activities(文化娱乐活动)in her hometown.

Now let’s put on(戴上,使运转)our thinking cap and try to figure out what other topics can be included when we introduce our own hometown. Topics, such as weather scenicspots(风景名胜), food, brief history , changes or nickname can be included. one way or another. We should also be aware that while westerners(西方人)talk, their logical thinking varies tremendously(巨大的,非

常)from our own. Ours is inductive(归纳的,诱导的), in other words, we will begin our talk from less important matters. Then later the moreimportant information. However the westerners hold a deductive thinking pattern(持有演绎思维模式). The mostimportant information is placed at the very beginning with a linear development of details putting behind(细节的线性发展放在后面). So the structure they follow while talking is just like a tree. Here I’d like to call it "information tree". Let’s take a more careful listen To the example of the third speaker. Besides deductive thinking, there is one more point that must be noted, that is unity and coherence(统一性和连贯性). With the information in the table, let’s hear another example. When ta lking about the good points of her hometown, the speaker mentioned climate, architecture and eco-tourism with each aspect supported by detailed information. Therefore, her topic is expanded to become fuller and more impressive(主题的扩大更为完整,印象更加令人深刻). Now le t’s emulate(模仿)the westerner’s logical thinking and make an introduction of our own hometown. Please determine quickly the main points you’re going to say With regard to the following questions. What is your hometown called? Where is it? How long have you lived there? Do you like living there? Why? Is there anything you dislike about your home town? Now please look carefully at the table on the slide. Please fill up the blanks in the table with the information concerning your hometown. Here are 5 sentence patterns which will be helpful to you. Let’s take a look. The city is crowned as... A crown is a circular ornament (圆形装饰), usually made of gold and jewels, which a king or queen wears on their head at official ceremonies. Here it is used as a verb meaning giving sb. or sth. a good reputation. For example, the city of Shanghai is crowned as the Paris in the East. Take another look at "It boasts..."To boast is to show off. It can also be used to refer to having sth. Worth feeling proud of. For example, My hometown boasts a lot of mineral resources(矿产资源). Let’s make a study of some other words which could be useful to you when talking about your hometown. For example, about food, we may praise the local cuisine as "yummy" or "mouth-watering(令人垂涎的)" or we may use "drool over(流口水)". If you come to my home town, you will really drool over the local snacks. When it comes to weather, we may apply "balmy", "favorable""hot and stuffy""freezing"or "changeable". With regard to the people, people living in a place are called its inhabitants. Inhabit has the connotation(内涵,含义)of "live in" and ant(蚂蚁)is an affix indicating people(ant是一个词缀表示人). So by combining the root with the affix you get inhabitant(把词根和词缀结合起来就得到了inhabitant). What kinds of businesses are people in your hometown engaged in? Someone who is engaged in or engaged on a particular activity is doing that thing. To describe the group character of the natives, you may use"hospitable(热情好客的)""talkative(健谈的)", "forthright(直率的,正直的)" You could use "be enthusiastic about" to describe what local people are fond of. All right. With the input you had just now and the notes you jotted down(记下的笔记),

you may be more confidentwhen talking about the topic of hometowns. OK,now let's watch a video where Richard, who was born and raised in Changsha, introduces his home town to us.

My hometown Changsha, situated in the east and central part of Hunan province and on the lower reaches of Xiang River is a booming (繁荣的)place and boasts the reputation of being one of the most livable cities in China. I have lived here since 1992. Here, multi-storey(多层的)office buildings and living quarters are springing up like mushrooms(多层办公楼和起居室如雨后春笋般涌现), Creating ornaments of modernity for the city(为城市创造现代性的装饰品). Dotted with(点缀着)quite a variety of restaurants with excellent and distinctive local cuisine(当地美食), it attracts both natives and tourists from home and abroad in astronomical numbers. What’s more New areas spread in all directions like spilt water(并且,新的地区像泼出去的水一样向四面八方蔓延). However, the best thing about my hometown is the people. They are kind and hospitable. They try to help each other in hard times and share happiness in good times. Sometimes it feels like we’re all one big happy family. Like other cities of our country, my hometown is becoming rich and prosperous. I love it very much because it’s the place where I was born and brought up, and because I have numerous schoolmates, friends and relatives there.

Though I have many friends, my friendship with them grew up with times and mutual understanding. But I can recall that my friendship with George grew up almost all of a sudden. George is senior to me by 2-3 years and I did not meet him until I was in the 4th semester in my University. One of my term final exam's schedules was changed and I did not know that. According to my previous exam schedule I reached my University and was totally confused what to do when I heard that the exam was already over. I went to our Departmental head's office and he could not find a way around of it. He blamed me that I should have been more careful about the changes. I explained him that I was sick and did not come to university for 3-4 days and that made me unaware of the exam schedule changes. Then I found that someone who was sitting next to me in the departmental head's office asked me to meet the course teacher and explain the situation. He then escorted me to our course teacher's room and talked to the teacher. It seemed to me that George was already personally known to our teacher and they had an intimate relationship. Hearing everything the teacher agreed to arrange an exam for me next day in his office room. My friendship with George grew up after that event and albeit our age differences we found that we had many common interests and habits. We started spending time and I visited his home many times. We worked in a retail shop for about 6 months and that helped us become more intimate.

Describe a healthy lifestyle you know 健康生活方式.doc

Describe a healthy lifestyle you know Describe a healthy lifestyle you know You should say: How you know it What it is What one would do living in this lifestyle And explain why it is healthy The healthy lifestyle I am going to tell you is early to bed and early to rise. I do not remember when and where I first heard about this saying. But my parents keep repeating it recently and hope I can follow their advice. They believe staying up late has a negative impact on health and can cause various disease. According to my parents, one had better go to bed before 11 o’clock in the evening and get up at about 7 o’clock in the morning. Even if you cannot fall asleep immediately, this article is from laokaoya website, closing your eyes and lying on the bed is better than doing other things. This is in chord with a person’s internal clock, and thus

Describe a book you read、a gift you received from others、a wild animal、a handicraft、an electrical appliance that is useful to you、an important letter that you received、a game you played in your childhood等; 抽象类物品如:Describe an interesting news、a useful website、 a performance you saw、a organization、your future job、your future plan、something that you don't know but would like to learn等。 Describe a gift you sent to others 物品词汇: Arts and crafts工艺品;Charm护身符;Cross stitch 十字绣;Knitting 编织品;Shell craft 贝壳制品;Mug 杯子;Multi Purpose Tools 多功能工具 物品特点词汇:

雅思口语Part2答案:在校学习的课程

雅思口语Part2答案:在校学习的课程 参考答案: The subject that I'd like to describe is Physics that was taught in our school. We had this subject in each year of our high school and each year a new teacher used to taught us the subject. Even we had to read physics in college as Science was my major. I remember Mr. Alex, Burter, John, David and Mrs. Jeniffer took Physics in different years. We were lucky to have good Physics teachers who could make the subject interesting and enjoyable. Our teachers used to tell us stories first and then would explain the theory, experiment or math of the text books. They would then relate the story with the study. Later they would explain us the real examples and facts. Sometimes they used to take us to the Physics labs and explain how something works. I have learned numerous things of physics from simple definition of mass to the complex explanation of Einstein's Theory of Relativity. My foundation of physics grew up and expanded with the help of those teachers. The subject itself is utterly interesting if one can have passion for it. It is one such subject that one would start loving it if s/he starts understanding the underlying concepts of it. Physics is all around us and the lesson I learned from my School had helped me greatly throughout my higher academic years. Tips for answering this cue card topic: You should pick a real academic subject like Math, English, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Biology to answer this cue card. Then quickly take some notes including the following: 1. In which class was it taught? 2. Do not pick a subject taught in your college or university level as the cue card is asking you to talk about a subject taught in your school. 3. Try to remember a teacher's name. You can mention multiple teachers' name as the same subject in school is taught by different teachers in different classes. 4. Give a short detail what the subject. For example: The Geography would discuss about the Earth, the other planet in the solar system, atmosphere, and climate changes etc. and you should mention those. 5. Next describe how the teacher taught the subject and what things you learned from the class. 6. Mention some interesting things you learned from the class and how the teacher made things easier to understand for you. 7. Describe how interested you were about the subject and the class. 8. Relate how this subject has later helped you/ influenced you in your education and learning process. 9. Finally give a conclusion by mentioning how beneficial the subject for students. If you pick Math try to focus on the following issues: 1. The teacher was very good explaining the intricacies of the subject. 2. You learned many theories and formulas of math. 3. This teacher explained how math would be helpful for the rest of the life and academic years.

Describe a good parent you know. You should say: ?Who the parent is ?How you know the parent ?What the parent looks like ?And explain why you think the parent is good. Ok right then, well the parent I'd like to talk about is the mother of a good friend of mine, and the reason for choosing to talk about her is that my friend is always going on about how lucky he is to have such a nice mum. And from what I know about her, I'd say he's absolutely right! Anyway, as for how I know her, well it's basically due to the fact that I went to the same middle school as her son. And because we became pretty good friends, we ended up seeing quite a lot of each other's parents, especially during the holidays when we often went over to each other's homes. And regarding what his mother looks like, well interestingly enough, she actually looks pretty similar to my own mother, because they both have quite round faces and long wavy hair. Having said that though, I've noticed that my friend's mother often ties her hair up in a bun, whereas my mother usually always keeps it down. And another thing to mention would be that whenever I see her, she always seems to be wearing red clothes of some sort, which I guess is probably because red suits her quite well. But anyway, finally then, with regard to why I think she's a good parent, well I'd say there are quite a few reasons, one of which would be that she's always been fully supportive to her son. And just to give you an example, when he was deciding what major to study at university, he ended up choosing music. And his mother gave him her full support, which is probably not what many other parents would have done, as music doesn't really leave open a lot of career choices, if you know what I mean! And I think it's fair to say that nowadays, a lot of parents persuade their children to do things which they think are best for them, but my friend has said that his parents have never been like this with him, especially his mother. So I kind of get the impression that she's never forced him to do anything against his will, and has always let him make his own decisions, which I think is really great. Notes: always going on about = always saying end up doing sth. = 最终做某事 interestingly enough = 说来有趣 Having said that though = 不过话说回来 of some sort = 某种 just to give you an example = for example be fully supportive = gave sb. one’s full support 全力支持 leave open a lot of career choices = 好就业 I think it's fair to say that = I think it's true to say that...... So I kind of get the impression that = I get the feeling that......

We often have guests, visitors and relatives in our home and for special occasions like a birthday party several invited guests come to our home. One such occasion and special guest I remember came to our home 2-3 years back. He was a famous writer and came to our home on occasion of my older sister’s marriage ceremony. He was known to the father of the bridegroom’s senior brother and a well-known figure in our city. His name is Mr. Jonathon Durik (…say a name you like…) and when he arrived all of us recognized him. The marriage ceremony was a big program and almost 200 people attended the ceremony. We had to prepare for the program for about a week before the due date. This ceremony was arranged in our own house and we had been tremendously busy for the occasion. A marriage ceremony is a big arrangement and my parents were very busy as well as sad that my sister would be leaving our house after her marriage. This was a big event and there were lots of things to be done. I had been so busy and had to greet and serve so many guests that I had hard time concentrating. The bridegroom and their relatives arrived and we got even busier. They introduced the guests to us and one of them was Mr. Durik. I greeted him and helped him sitting in a comfortable couch. I got busy with other stuffs and came to the guests time to time to look after if he needed anything. I asked what type of foods he would prefer to eat and took him to the dinning place. I had a short conversation with him
