Othertestshaveshownthatlaughterappearstobeabletoreducetheeffectofpainonthebody.Inoneexp erimentdoctorsproducedpainingroupsofstudents

wholistenedtodifferentradioprogrammes.Thegroupthattolerated(忍受) thepainforthelongesttimewasthegroupwhichlistenedtoafunnyprogramme.Thereasonwhylaughterca nreducepainseemstobethatithelpstoproduceakindofchemicalinthebrainwhichdiminishes(减少) bothstressandpain.

Asaresultofthesediscoveries,somedoctorsintheUnitedStatesnowholdlaughterclinics,inwhichtheyhelptoimprovetheirpatients’conditionbyencouragingthemtolaugh.Theyhavefoundthat eveniftheirpatientsdonotreallyfeellikelaughing,makingthemsmileisenoughtoproducebeneficialeffectssimilartothosecausedbylaughter.
