Read the passage and understand the opinion of the writer towards two dads

I had two fathers, a rich one and a poor one. One father finished college in less than two years and had a Ph.D. However, he tried his best to make ends meet all his life. When he died, he left bills to be paid. The other one never finished the eighth grade and started doing business. Soon he earned plenty of money and became

one of the richest men in Hawaii. When he died, he left millions of dollars to his family, charities and church.

Passage One

Two dads offered me the choice of different points of view about the subject of money, but their advice makes great difference. One told me to study hard, go to a famous university and find a nice job to earn a living. The other hoped that I could think of the ways of how to use money to make more money and make life much better. In other words, one dad would say that the love of money is the root of all evil while the other would say that the lack of money is the root of all evil. Instead of simply saying yes or no to ideas of one dad or the other, I found myself thinking more, comparing and then choosing for myself.

As I grow up, I realize that the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class is often in debt. That’s mainly because the children learn the subject of money not in school but at home. Most of us learn about money from our parents. So what can a poor parent tell their child about money? They simply tell their kids to stay in school and study hard. The child may finish school with excellent grades but with a poor person's ways of making money.

Passage Two

It was on a Sunday morning. Ravi and Pi were

quietly playing on their own when father called

out. "Children, come here." They wondered what

went wrong with both of them this time. Walking

into the living room,t hey noticed that Mother

was there and felt upset.

"Ravi, Pi, I have a very important lesson for you

today." Father said. "Oh really, is this necessary?" interrupted Mother. Pi and Ravi looked at each other. "Yes, it is," said Father angrily. "It may save their lives very well." "But Pi? He's only eight," Mother insisted. "He's the one who worries me the most." "It's Ravi's fault." Pi reasoned. "Whatever it is, he did it!" "What?" said Ravi. "I haven't done anything wrong." Ravi gave Pi an evil eye. Pi begged mother, but she only sighed and nodded.

"Come with me," said Father. They left the house, went through the gate and entered the zoo. It was early and the zoo wasn’t open to the public. They went round and down the path. Babu, their zoo keeper, unlocked the door to the cat house. They came in. The cat’s cage was made of thick iron bars: Richard Parker, a Bengal tiger of 550 pounds, was there. As soon as they stepped in, the tiger took long steps to the bars of his cage and made a loud sound, with ears flat against his head and round eyes fixed on Babu. The sound was so loud that it seemed to shake the whole cat house. Pi and Ravi’s knees started shaking. They got close to Mother. She was afraid, too. But Father seemed to be steady.

Father turned to his sons. "What animal is this?" he shouted loudly. "It's

a tiger," They answered.Father pointed out the tiger. "Are tigers dangerous?" "Yes, Father, tigers are dangerous." They replied. "I want

you to understand that you are never—any time—to touch a tiger, to pet a tiger, to put your hands through the bars of a cage, even to get close to a cage. Is that clear? Both of them?" Father shouted. They nodded. Father kept his eyes on me. P i nodded so hard that his head seemed to fall to the floor.

Home assignments

Part One:

Read the passage and understand how mother did to her daughter

As a stranger was passing by, I ran into him and said “Oh, excuse me, please.”“Please excuse me too, I wasn’t even watch ing for you.”He responded. This stranger and I are very polite. We say good-bye and go on our way, but at home there is a different story. How we treat our loved ones, young and old?

Later that day, I was cooking the evening meal, and my daughter stood beside me quietly. When I turned around, I nearly knock ed her down. “Move out of this way,” I said with a frown. She walked away, her little heart was broken. I didn’t realize how strictly I’d spoken.

While I was lying awake in bed, God’s little voice came to me and said, “While you are greeting a stranger, you act politely, but for the children you love, you seem to treat them badly. Look on the kitchen floor, you’ll

find some flowers there by the door. She brought those flowers for you. She stood quietly not to spoil the surprise, and you never saw the tears in her eyes.”

By this time, I felt very sorry, and now my tears began to fall. I quietly entered her room and sat down by her bed, “Wake up, little girl, wake up,”

I said softly. “Are these the flowers you picked for me?” she smiled, “I found them out by the tree. I picked them because they’re pretty like you.

I knew you would like them, especially the blue.” I said, “Daughter, I’m sorry for the way I acted today; I will never do such thing to you that way again.”She said, “Oh, mom, that’s okay. I love you anyway.”I said, “Daughter, I love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.”

I realize that we pour ourselves more into work than our family. We spend most of time working in the office. However, if we lose our jobs, the company can easily replace us with some other people. But family always leaves a place for us to have a rest and experience happiness.
