Ss listen and talk about the automobile racing.

Paul: Mary! Yes, this is Paul. I recognized your voice right away. What a pleasant surprise! Mary: Paul, have you heard the news?

Paul: Yes?

Mary: Matt won the Nascar Cup series championship in 2008, but heading into this season, he had not won a race in 36 attempts.

Paul: Oh, I know. He will try to become the first driver since Jeff Gordon in 1997 to win the first two races in one year.

Mary: Really? It is great! I will come back tomorrow. See you!

Task 5:

Automobile racing which is one of the world's most watched television sports attracts so many young men. But do you know how many forms of automobile racing? Automobile racing practiced in a variety of forms on roads, tracks, or closed circuits. As we known, it includes Grand Prix racing, speedway racing (including the Indianapolis 500), stock-car racing, sports-car racing, drag racing, midget-car racing(Midget cars, also Speed cars in Australia, are very small race cars with a very high power-to-weight ratios), and karting, as well as hill climbs and rally driving. The International Motor Sports Hall of Fame is located in Talladega, Ala., U.S. There is no central governing body for automobile racing in the U.S. as there is in most other countries.

The Chicago Times Herald sponsored the first automobile race held in the United States On 28 November 1895. Its purposes were to test American cars and promote the nascent automobile industry.

In 1908, the Savannah Automobile Club hosted the first American Grand Prize race. Also in 1909, the first closed-circuit dirt track was opened in Indianapolis, Indiana, by a group of automobile manufacturers. The U.S. Grand Prix, the first American Formula One (F1) race since the American Grand Prize series from 1908 to 1916, was held at the Sebring, Florida, air base in 1959.

the information quickly and can refer back to it easily.

◆Write a short, friendly announcement. Present your information in a plain and

complete way

◆If the news you are announcing is bad, write it in a direct statement. Add a

message of understanding and optimism to your announcement, in a respectful tone ?Introduce Ss the structure and three elements by studying the two samples given in the course

book.
