“believe”还是“believe in”

“believe”和“believe in”都有“相信”的意思，但具体含义却不一样。

1、“believe”表示“相信（是真实的）”，其英文解释为“to be sure that something is true or that someone is telling the truth”，例如：Do you believe what he said?你相信他说的话吗？I don’t believe he’s only 25. 我不相信他才25岁。

2、“believe in”表示“相信”时有四个含义：

并非冷漠

许多人都认为西方国家的人表面看上去十分热情但实际上却非常冷漠(indifferent)。

其实这是由于东西方文化上的差异所导致的一些误会(misunderstanding)。外国人也有对人热情的，而且有些热情中国人还不一定能够承受。比如，外国人习惯早上见了人，公共场所见了人，不管认不认识都要打个招呼。中国人却不习惯这样，只喜欢跟熟人打招呼。你跟不认识的人打招呼，他会不理解你，甚至误会你有恶意。有一个美国友人就遇到过一件很尴尬的事情：他在中国国内读书，早上出去晨练主动跟别人打招呼，结果没人理他，以为他是在跟后面的人打招呼。

所谓热情（enthusiasm），就是指在待人接物中一种奔放的、热烈的情感。人没有热情就做不成事。比如，伟大的文学家、思想家伏尔泰先生说过：“没有热情者将一事无成！”美国总统威尔逊也曾说过：“冷漠是最大的残忍！”
