It took me a moment to realize what had happened. Three days had passed and Rita seemed to get weaker and weaker. The rain had stopped. However, the sky was still cloudy, and it was so dark that I couldn’t see the buildings even across the road.

I took a pressure reading from the weather station: 947mb, which let me know exactly where I

was—in the eye of the storm.

There were rains and winds still, but not oppressive (难以忍受的)anymore. There was still no power, hot water or food. Besides, I didn’t sleep well for all these days, but I felt more relaxed since the weather report said Rita was leaving. What’s more, I was luckier than those people who had lost their homes or even worse, lost their lives because of Rita.

As I travelled further to the west, going after the storm, the damage along the way became less severe. I arrived in Houston after a tricky journey with my fuel supplies almost all gone. However, I came across another storm chaser (追逐者) who had 45 gallons of petrol. He helped me and we shared our working experience these days. With a complete stroke of luck I found a run-down hotel that allowed me to have a room overnight before the midnight. Although there was no running water, no power and no air conditioning, I curled up into a corner and fell asleep quickly.

I woke up the next morning. and what a change! The sky was blue and cars were moving around. Sirens could be heard as convoys (护航队)of emergency managements started to head west towards where I had come from. " The storm had stopped and I could go home. I gave all my remaining supplies to other people at the hotel and headed towards the airport. Houston Airport was not damaged, so I took my flight and drank my first hot drink in four days.

All in all, when I came back home, I was proud that I finally made it again to follow and record the storm and I really learned a lot these days, Although it ‘s dangerous, I love my job as not many people would go into the eye of an intense storm.

Who could have imagined that a treadmill( 跑步机)on wheels would one day become a thing? Lopifit is an unusual means of transportation that allows you to power an electric bicycle by walking on a treadmill.

Lopifit founder Bruin Bergmeester says it all started when he asked himself the question. "How can I use a treadmill outdoors?" He eventually came up with a design, to which he added an electric engine, and Lopifit was born. The treadmill bicycle is similar to a typical electric bicycle in that the motor only works when the rider puts power in as well. The Lopifit senses it when you walk on the treadmill and uses the motor to turn a drive chain at the back part of the treadmill, helping you reach a top speed of 17 miles per hour.

To use the Lopifit, simply turn on the battery and use your feet to slide the treadmill backwards and activate (激活) the motor. Then get on and enjoy the ride! If you need speed, just walk on the treadmill, and if you want to coast, all you have to do is stay still and admire the view. To stop, you have two hand brakes available.

The Lopifit first hit the streets in 2014 and, unsurprisingly. became an instant hit. That was actually quite challenging for the company, because it started get ting calls for orders, but it was nowhere near ready for mass production. The unique treadmill bicycle became available this year, and Lopifit is struggling to keep up with demand, despite the high price tag of $ 2,115.

But despite having a very loyal fan- base of so-called Lopifitters, the creative means of transportation also has naysayers who simply consider the invention stupid and unnecessary. They basically believe that if you’r e going to walk, you might as well do it the old-fashioned way. But the Lopifit does have the unique advantage of

helping you walk”really fast without breaking a sweat, or walking at cycling speed, if you will.

28. With the help of Lopifit, you can .

A. cycle to work by walking

B. offer power to any bicycle

C. create a treadmill on wheels

D. answer some hard questions

29. From the second paragraph, we can learn .

A. how Lopifit was created

B. where Lopifit can be used

C. who Lopifit is intended for

D. which design is suitable for Lopifit

30. What can be learned from the fourth paragraph?

A. Lopifit was cheap and available in 2014.

B. Lopifit always broke down on the streets.

C. It was hard for the company to design Lopifit.

D. The supply of Lopifit failed to meet the demand.

31. How do the public react to Lopifit?

A. Positively.

B. Variously.

C. Angrily.

D. Cautiously.

A good mother is someone who would sacrifice everything for her children. It is common to hear parents saying, “How could you do this to me after all the sacrifices that I have made for you?”Most parents are driven by love. It is equally common to find children answering, “When did I ever ask you to sacrifice for me?”There is often a grain of truth in childr en’s words. The truth usually hurts.

Parents often confuse selfless love with sacrifice. In fact, the former is a self-serving act driven by one’s desire to live up to one’s standards. To sacrifice

means to relinquish things of high value for the sake of another thing that one considers being of great value. That sounds so negative. However, self serving isn’t necessarily negative. It is human to act out of their desire to seek pleasure and avoid pain. To love one ‘s children essentially means accepting them unconditionally. It follows that full acceptance of the children is usually possible only when parents fully accept themselves. It is no secret that loving the children begins with loving themselves.

The sacrifices they make for their children are countless, and I’ve tried to put some of those sacrifices here. After becoming a parent, a couple ‘s life is centered on their little kids. Suddenly the baby tops the list of all relationships. Some friends and family members drift apart from parents emotionally. A kid demands undivided attention till he or she becomes independent.

Many parents suffer relationship issues because they spend most of their time either working or caring for kids, which causes a fading emotional connection between couples. In terms of career, most of the time, a mother makes sacrifices. Many parents take up jobs that allow them to spend more time with their kids. Some parents usually give up on their favorite foods just to buy foods for their kids. Holiday plans are decided by kids’ education.

Parents have unconditional love for kids. A parent never retires. As a daughter, and a mother, the more I go through parenting, the more I owe an apology to my parents because of their selfless love.

32. According to Paragraph 1, what can we know from children’s answer?

A. They don ‘t feel grateful to their parents.

B. They. don’t know how to satisfy their parents.

C. They hide their true feelings from their parents.

D. They are not old enough to understand their parents.

33. What does the underlined word “relinquish”in Paragraph 2 mean?

A. Clear.

B. Protect.

C. Give up.

D. Find out.

34. There are sometimes some problems between parents because

A. they just think about themselves

B. they don ‘t care about each other at all

C. they spend little time looking after kids

D. they are less connected to each other emotionally

35. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Many kids don’t treat their parents well.

B. Parents make great sacrifices for their children.

C. Children and parents should respect each other.

D. Couples have many problems after having kids.

Good learners can inspire students or anybody to learn well. Here are some characteristics of good learners.

Good learners are curious. They wonder about all sorts of things, often about knowledge beyond their areas of expertise(专长). 36 Finding out about something they didn’t know satisfies them for the moment, but their curiosity is addictive.

Good learners don ‘t giv e up easily. A few things may come easily to learners but most knowledge arrives after effort. 37 They try to search out new information. They read, analyze, and evaluate the information they’ve found. Then they study more and work at what they don’t under stand.

Good learners know that a lot of learning isn’t fun. The journey to understanding generally isn’t all that exciting. 38 Others need a tiresome attention to detail, and still others need periods of intense mental focus. Your backs hurt, your arms and legs get tired, and your coffee gets cold.

39 There ‘s always more to know. Good learners are never satisfied with how much they know about anything. They are pulled around by questions—the ones they still can’t answer, or the ones without very good answers. Those questions follow them

like day follows night with the answers bringing daylight.

Good learners share what they’ve learned. Good learners are teachers committed to sharing with others what they’ve learned. 40 Good learners can also explain what they know in ways that make sense to others. They are connected to the knowledge passed on to them and committed to leaving what they’ve learned with others.

A. Good learners stay positive.

B. They write about it, and talk about it.

C. They love the discovery part of learning.

D. Good learners never run out of questions.

E. Some knowledge can broaden our views.

F. Good learners are willing to put in the time.

G. Some learning tasks require boring repetition.
