However, it is a pity that s ome people don't make full use of their time .They spend a lot of time in sleepi ng, chatting, playing computer games or other unmeaning matters. They don't realize that wasting time is actually equal to killing themselves. They alwa ys regret not having made great achievements. One of the reasons may be they do not make good use of time. 完型填空:

(1)Jenna, a popular girl from Westwood Middle School, had graduated first in her class and was ready for new challenges in high school. However, high school was different. In the first week, Jenna went to tryouts(选拔赛)for cheerleaders(拉拉队队员). She was competing against very talented girls, and she knew it would b e difficult for her to be selected. Two hours later, the judge read a list of the girls for a second tryout. Her heart sank as the list ended without her name. Feeling u pset, she walked home carrying her schoolbag full of homework.

Arriving home, she started with math. She had always been a good math studen

t, but now she was struggling. She moved on to English and history, and was relie ved to find that she didn’t have any trouble with those subjects. Feeling better, s he decided not to worry about math for the time being.

The next day Jenna went to see Mrs. Biden about on the school newspaper. Mrs. Biden wasn’t as enthusiastic as Jenna. “I’m sorry, but we have enough writers f or the newspaper already. Come back next year and we’ll talk then.” Jenna smile d weakly and left. “Why is high school so different?” she sighed.

Later in math class, Jenna devoted herself to figuring out the problems that had given her so much trouble. By the end of math class, she understood how to get t hem right. As she gathered her books, Jenna decided she’d continue to try to ada pt to her new school. She wasn’t sure if she’d succeed .but she knew she had to t ry. High school was just as her mom had said, “you will feel like a small fish in a b ig pond instead of a big fish in a small pond. The challenge is to become the best fish you can be.”

(2)Older people just don’t understand teenagers. We are not all the same and w

e don’t just listen to rock and roll and hip-hop. And , not all o

f the tunes that app eal to lyrics that are offensive. What is more, we have a lot to offer our communi ty. Most of us participate in community and school activities that have a positive influence on the public as a whole. It seems that older people think that everythi n

g teenagers think and do is harmful and negative. It is hard to see a good idea g o without notice simply because the idea came from some under the age of 20. I find it very interesting that the only people who really want to listen to what tee nagers think, or have any concern as to what we are doing are the ones who wan t to learn how to sell us stuff.

You see it over and over when you turn on the television --- child actors using ex pressions from five years ago trying to sell us something today. I get upset when I watch TV; I feel like older people think that I am stupid.

I have a couple of things that I would like to say to older people as well as the c ompanies they use to sell me stuff. First of all, I don’t talk like that, at least, not a nymore, so try to keep up. I am unique and like to express myself in unique ways. Second, I am not stupid and can tell you are trying to talk me into buying and I a m not buying. And last of all, my ideas should get respect even when you can’t m ake money off them. If your ideas are smart, why dose our world have so many p roblems? I think that it’s time people listened to what teenagers have to say. Ou r perspective is vital to the health of our community.

The relaxed atmosphere of the preceding summer semester, the Impromptu ball games, the boating on the Charles River, the late-night parties had disappeared, and we all started to get our heads down, studying late, and attendance at classes rose steeply again. We all sensed we were coming to the end of our stay here, that we would never get a chance like this again, and we became determined not to waste it. Most important of course were the final exams in April and May in the following year. No one wanted the humiliation of finishing last in class, so the peer group pressure to work hard was strong. Libraries which were once empty after five o'clock in the afternoon were standing room only until the early hours of the morning, and guys wore the bags under their eyes and their pale, sleepy faces with pride, like medals proving their diligence.
