第二部分阅读理解:(第一节20小题,第二节5小题;每小题2分,满分50分)第一节:阅读下列短文,从每题后面所给的选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卷上将该项涂黑。

A

We all know what foods we should and shouldn't be eating —we're fully aware that we need to change the pizza for beans to get us feeling fit in 2016. But are you really aware of how much you should be eating? And we're not just talking about sticking to regular mealtimes...What you also need to know about is portion(分量)sizes, which can have a huge influence on your health. The point is,whatever you’re eating, it's important to keep control over how much you're consuming. A recent study showed that avoiding large portions completely reduces a UK adult's daily energy intake by 12 —16%.The researchers boldly stated that: “Reducing the size of large food portions, packaging and tableware(餐具)means a lot to preventing

obesity(overweight).”

And over-sized portions are increasingly becoming a problem. The average serving for a meal or snack is now at least 50% larger than 20 years ago. Thus it's growing increasingly difficult to control a healthy meal size.

Even if you're not trying to lose weight, keeping an eye on your portion sizes is still important. Obviously, eating four apples in a row instead of four biscuits is going to be better for you, but even when you're eating the healthiest foods, it is still a good idea to control portion sizes. It is good practice, and helps you get into the habit of not

overeating. Often the most common mistake people make is thinking that they can eat as much as they want of healthy foods —however if you're overeating, even if it's healthy foods, you may begin to gain weight.

When it comes to reducing how much you eat, ifs better to gradually decrease your portion sizes. If you suddenly cut your lunch size by half, you're going to end up feeling hungry all the time and you will probably eat biscuits to your heart's content in a

mid-afternoon. Your stomach has the ability to shrink, so if you slowly reduce your meal sizes over time, you'll get used to feeling full from smaller portion, instead of feeling hungry.

It’s also definitely worth buying some quality kitchen weighing scales(秤),and learning how to only cook exactly as much food as you need. Buy smaller plates, bowls and lunchboxes. Over-sized plates only encourage us to fill them more, and thus overeat. Make sure you know exactly how much you’re eating, and that ifs in line with suggested servings. When the pains are kicking in, drink a glass of water before you serve or order food to ensure you don't overdo it because your eyes are bigger than your belly. Again, don’t be fooled by bigger-size-better-value offers when eating out and shopping in the supermarket.

A. safety

B. quality

C. source

Over your lifetime, how much do you expect that your happiness will increase? One study tracked some individuals over a period of 20 years. Their levels of happiness increase by 20, 30, even 50% over the course of those 20 years. Here are things you can do to be like them:

Exercise

Regular exercise increases happiness just as much as doubling one's income would. Exercise is at the top of this list, and for a reason —it’s a wonder drug.

One theory suggests that exercise releases chemicals which reduce stress and improve mental function. If you’ve been inactive, regular exercise will boost

your long-term well-being by 10 to 15%. In one study, after eight weeks of exercising for 30 minutes three times a week, folks reported a 12% increase in

their well-being. Compare that with a survey of over 100,000 people across the globe, which found that doubling one's income was associated with a 10% increase well-being.

Spend More Time Socializing

Social activity is a most pleasurable activity available to mankind. Our current state of social: inactivity is unnatural and unhealthy. In one study, those who were the happiest spent 25% less time: alone, and 70% more time talking than

less and worse quality sleep also report having lower life satisfaction.: “Getting one extra hour of sleep each night would do more for your daily happiness than getting a; $60,000 raise.” Those who have more and better sleep report higher life satisfaction and happiness.

46. The writer thinks that ____ .

A. exercise brings us twice as much income as before

B. exercise reduces some chemical drugs in our body

D. social activity isn’t being paid enough attention to

A. spending time socializing

B. daily long travels to work

C. getting off the boring life

D. long hours spent in sleeping

48. As for laughter, the writer suggests that we ____ .

A. act the same way as babies do

B. laugh more whenever possible

C. laugh quietly when exercising

D. build relationships with the funny

49. The best title for the passage is____ .

A. How Much to Expect Happiness

B. The Meaning of Life Is Happiness

C. Exercise Can Increase Happiness

D. Ways to Increase Your Happiness

In recent years, increasing attention is being given to the relationship between China and India, the two competing Asian giants which have lots of similarities. They are the countries with the biggest population, the number combined making up 40% of the world population; they are two of the most ancient countries with thousands of years' history and significant influence to the world civilization; their rapid growth is crucial to the Asia and the world economy.

However, due to a number of reasons, China and India have to handle their tough relations. Firstly, both of them are driving at full speed in developing economy. India feels frustrated with a growing China, which used to be as poor as India but now going over it. Not only to be an economic power, India dreams also to be a big potato in terms of science, technology, military and diplomacy, seeking more political interests. Secondly, China and India both have vast land and huge population. Yet their economic pattern is labor intensive (劳动密集型),which deadly relies on natural resources. Unfortunately, the lack of resources drives them turning to the outside world. It's a point more severe for China. As a result, the heavily resource-based economy will certainly lead to conflicts between them in seeking natural resources.

For political consideration, countries oppose their enemy by joining the enemy’s enemy to ease the tension. China has a good relationship with Pakistan; India seeks stronger ties with Russia and the US, and as far as with Japan. In October 1962, India launched attacks along the border to China. Chinese fought back and the border areas have remained in rest in the following years. Apart from that, India, though recognizing Tibet as part of China, expects to face an independent Tibet, instead of the Chinese government. All these taste sour to China.

Thanks to the economic globalization there is a fast growth in trade. Since India has a weaker industry than China, the two countries started cooperation. China exports the

finished products to India, while imports raw materials. India hopes to build jointly with China a pipe line crossing China’s Xinjiang and Tibet, in order to bring oil and gas from Russia and the central Asian countries into India. At present, the two countries have had joint projects in Iran, South America and Syria. In their cooperation, however, China always holds the major shares. In the overseas projects, China often offers higher bid over India. India elephant looks bitter to see that Chinese dragon is becoming an outstanding power in Asia.

In recent years, the accepted approach in international politics is to put the dispute (争端)and difference aside and seek win-win through dialogue and cooperation. Sino-US relations,Sino-Japan relations, are all following this course. The traditional belief of “Principle First” has been replaced by “Development First” or “National Interests First” or “The best way to conquer your enemy is to unite first with him,\ There is no exception in Sino-India case. Both sides agreed to put the hard issues aside and make room for economic development. They believed that an all-round cooperation would create a better political atmosphere and help solve the border dispute. However, it is obvious that China and India will not seek friendship at the expense of their national interests.

50. Paragraph 1 intends to tell us____ .

A. why the two countries have something in common

B. which of the two countries is the real Asian giant

C. how strongly the two countries are affecting the world

D. why the two countries have caught so much concern

51. The writer suggests China and India have ____ in development.

A. different needs for resources

B. the same target and way

C. the same land and population

D. different styles and ideas

52. How does India handle its tough relation with China?

A. By supporting its friends.

B. By changing economic pattern.

C. By joining China’s enemies.

D. By attacking China constantly.

53. The writer seems to think that China ____ in economic cooperation.

A. has some advantages over India

B. is as powerful as India

C. looks bitter to find India stronger

D. finds India unreliable

54. From the last part of the passage we learn that both countries ____ .

A. have a strong will to win each other

B. will try to join hands at all costs

C. will put development before conflicts

D. hold the belief of “Principle First”

D

The night was dark. The two men ran toward the dark house quietly. They ran up the steps, and knelt down, breathing heavily, in the dark shadows. Out of the blackness—a whisper: “We can't stay out here... Take this suitcase...Let me try those keys. We’ve got to get in!”

With one of the keys, the first man opened the door. Silently, the two men entered the house, closed the door behind them, and locked it. They discussed the situation. The man who held the flashlight spoke first. “Well, Bums,” he said, “we’re lucky. Looks as if the family’s away.”

“Yeah, gone for the summer.”

Yes, Hogan and Bums were lucky. Only once in the past ten days had their luck failed them. It had been with them when they made their big robbery on the Coast. It had been with them during their thousand-mile trip eastward, by car. It had been with them every moment — but one.

That moment had come just one hour before. It came when Burns, driving the car, ran over a policeman. And Bums, thinking of the suitcase at Hogan's feet, had driven away swiftly. There had been a wild, crazy chase (追逐)? And when a bullet had shot through the gas tank, they had had to abandon the car. But luck or no luck, here they were, without a car, in a completely strange town. But safe and sound—with the suitcase.

The suitcase lay in the center of the table. In it, lay 300,000 dollars.

Hogan said, “We have to get a car. We can’t steal one: It’s too dangerous. We have to buy one. That means we have to wait until the lots open. That will be about eight o’clock in this town.”

“But what about the suitcase?” said Bums.

“Hide it right here.” So they carried the suitcase down to the basement and buried it in a comer. Just before dawn, they slipped out. As they were walking down the street, Hogan said that a Samuel Rogers lived in the house they had just left, according to the name on some of the library books.

The used car lots opened at eight. Shortly before nine, Hogan and Bums had a very nice little car, quiet, unnoticeable, speedy. They arranged for temporary plates and drove off. Blocks from the house, they stopped. Hogan got out and walked toward the house. He thought he'd just go around to the back, and slip in.

Fifty yards from the house, he stopped. The front door was open. The family had returned! What bad luck! What could they do? Break into the cellar (basement) that night, and pick up the suitcase? No—too dangerous. Hogan would have to think of something.

''Leave it to me, kid.'' He told Bums. "You drive the car. I'll do the special brain work. Let's find a telephone. Quick!” Ten minutes later. Hogan was consulting a telephone directory. Yes, there it was —Samuel Rogers, 555-6329. A moment later he was talking to the surprised Mr. Rogers.

“Hello,” he began,“is this Mr. Samuel Rogers?”

“Yes, this is Mr. Rogers.”

“Mr. Rogers,” Hogan said, ’"this is Police Headquarters talking. I am Sergeant (警官)Simpson, of the detective division." The Chief of Police is sending me out to see you.”

“ Am I in trouble of some kind?" asked Mr. Rogers. t4No. But 1 have something important to talk to you about.”

“Very well, I’ll wait for you.”

On the way back to the house, Hogan explained his idea to Bums.

Within ten minutes,“Sergeant Simpson” and “Detective Johnson” were talking with the badly frightened Mr. Rogers. A small man with pale blue eyes and a funny little face.

Hogan told a false story. Mr. Rogers was surprised, but he was delighted to be able

to help the police. He accompanied Hogan to the basement. Together they dug up the suitcase, took it to the living room, opened it and saw it really did hold bills, bills, bills! Hogan closed the suitcase, “Mr. Rogers,” he announced, in his best official manner, “we must run along. The Chief wants a report — quick. We have to catch the rest of the robbers." He picked up the suitcase and rose. Bums also rose. Mr. Rogers also rose. The three walked to the door. Mr. Rogers opened it. “Come in, boys,,’ he said pleasantly — and in walked three large strong men in police uniforms who, without fear, stared at Hogan and Bums.

“What does this mean, Mr. Rogers?” asked Hogan.

“It’s quite simple,” said Mr. Rogers. “It just happens that I am the Chief of Police!”

第二节:下面文章中有5个段落需要添加首句(第61—65题)。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E

和F)中选出适合各段落的首句,并在答题纸上将相应选项的标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。

A. Say hello to humor.

B. Engage in physical activities.

C. Figure out what is behind anger.

D. Always listen to the other person first.

E. Change the way you think about things.

F. Make necessary adjustments when possible.

How to Manage Your Anger

Anger is a much-misunderstood emotion. It can motivate you to take action or force

you to take inappropriate action. It's also somewhat unpredictable in that you may not always know when you'll get angry. Anger can sometimes lead to physical diseases. While powerful and often intense, anger can actually be controlled in one way or another. Learning how to manage your anger is important, especially if you've noticed you're experiencing this emotion more frequently or intensely. Below are some tips for doing that:

61.________ Let's say you find yourself in a discussion with a co-worker, family member or friend and it starts to get heated. Listen carefully to what the other person is saying. Instead of blurting out an angry response, hit the pause button and listen to the other person until he or she finishes speaking. It will help you figure out what's behind the words — yours and the other person's. If your partner feels like you're not taking his or her feelings into account, you can adjust your behavior and your words to recognize this fact and do something about it.

62..________ Laughter is a wonderful antidote to negativity and anger. It helps you put things into perspective and helps you not take yourself so seriously. When you feel like you are full of negative thoughts and have to stop yourself from saying or doing something out of anger, turn instead to lighter fare. Watch a comedy. Go to a website with humorous quotes or jokes. Be sure to avoid such kinds of humor as work in the opposite way, though.

63..________ Exercise proves to be an effective way to controlling emotions. The endorphins that come from exercise can help you calm down, and moving your body provides a physical outlet for your anger. Maintaining a regular exercise schedule can help you regulate your emotions. While you exercise, focus on thinking about the exercise and your body, not what has been on your mind lately. Some forms of exercise that might appeal to you and help you control your anger include jogging, cycling, yoga, swimming and so on.

64..________ If bottleneck traffic gets you annoyed, try driving other routes. If you can't stand the mess in the living room that greets you when you walk through the door, go in through a side door. Sometimes it's also about changing the timing. For example, let's say you and your family members always argue at night, which could be caused by stress. When you’r e exhausted, you are more likely to start an argument. Make an appointment to discuss pressing matters at a different time so that your evening can be more enjoyable and relaxing.

65..________ This is actually cognitive (认知)restructuring. U simply means reordering the way you think about things, which can help you deal with your anger in a healthy way. After you have given yourself a moment to calm down, discuss the situation with yourself in positive and relieving terms.

Replace negative thoughts and words with those that are more reasonable. Instead of saying you failed and will never succeed, tell yourself that this was a disappointing result, makes you feel frustrated, but it's not life-threatening. You will have other opportunities to succeed.

广州二模英语试题

2019年广州二模英语试题 A The country is India. A large dinner party is being given in an up-country station by a colonial official and his wife. The guests are army and government officers and their wives, and an American naturalist. At one side of the long table, a spirited discussion springs up between a young girl and an army officer. The girl insists women have long outgrown the jumping- on- a- chair -at-the-sight-of-a-mouse era, and that they are not as anxious as their grandmothers were. The officer says they are, arguing women haven't the actual nerve control of men. “A woman's reaction in any crisis, "the officer says, “is to scream. And while a man may feel like it, he has that ounce more of control than a woman has." The American scientist does not join in the argument but sits and watches the faces of the other guests. As he stares, he sees a slight, though strange look of anxiety come over the face of the hostess. With a small gesture she summons the servant standing behind her chair. She whispers to him. The servant's eyes widen. He turns quickly and leaves the room. No one else sees this, nor the servant when he puts a bowl of milk on the balcony outside the glass doors. The American understands. In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing. It is bait for a snake. He realizes there is a cobra in the room. The American's eyes move across the room but he sees nothing. He realizes the snake can only be in one place-under the table. His first reaction is to jump back and warn the others. But he knows any sudden movement will frighten the cobra and it will strike. He speaks quickly, the quality of his voice so arresting that it quietens everyone." I want to know just what control everyone at this table has. I will count three hundred-that's five minutes-and not one of you is to move a single muscle. Now! Ready!"

A Many people would love to leave their jobs behind and have a life-changing adventure overseas. They imagine lying under palm trees as the sun goes down. However, life overseas is not always easy, and many are not prepared for the shock of living in an alien culture. The honeymoon period At first, for those who actually decide to move abroad, life is an exciting adventure. They enjoy exploring their new surroundings, and life seems like an extended holiday. They don’t mind trying the local cuisine and discovering the local culture. They can even afford to practice their foreign-language skills without fear of making mistakes. Trouble in paradise In many cases, when people consider moving to another country, they often fail to realize how different life will be. As time goes by, they become frustrated when language and cultural misunderstandings become a daily headache. In this stage, the visitors begin to withdraw from life in the host country and avoid spending time with local people in favor of mixing with others from their own cultural background. The road to recovery Gradually, most visitors realize they must accept the differences and not fight against them. This change encourages them to improve their language skills and slowly they manage to do the things they could easily do at home, such as opening a bank account. This new-found confidence enables them to see a side of life which very few tourists get to witness. Adjusting to life abroad can often be a real problem. The secret to overcoming it is to stop trying to change your host country: you will not succeed. If not, you risk losing your dream and having to return to the old life you wanted to leave behind. 21. Why do people moving abroad feel excited at first? A. They find foreign living much easier. B. They have the necessary language skills. C. They love the adventure and exploration. D. They enjoy meeting people from different cultures. 22. According to the author, what is the main problem many people moving abroad face? A. Homesickness. B. Culture shock C. Health problems. D. Lack of employment. 23. What would the author suggest people moving abroad do? A. Study the local language. B. Go on holidays frequently. C. Learn how to open a bank account. D. Seek out people from their home country. B Australia loves interesting money. In 1988, it was the first country to replace paper money with special plastic banknotes. Now it’s introduced a new five-dollar bill so technologically advanced that many experts are calling it the money of the future! At first glance, the new note looks much like the old one. It has the same pink colour and main pictures on the front and back. But look closer, and you will notice a clear window running down the middle, surrounded by images of the yellow Prickly Moses, a type of Australian plant. Tilt(使倾斜)the note a little and you will see the Eastern Spinebill, an Australian bird, beating its wings as if trying to fly away. Turn the bill from side to side, and you will notice the picture of a small building at the bottom of the note spins, and the image of “5” changes position. While these moveable features are impressive and entertaining, that was not the reason Australian government officials spent ten years developing them. Their primary purpose was to make it impossible for criminals to produce their own fake notes. The new five-dollar note also has something to help blind people easily identify the money. It has a raised bump alongside the top and bottom, enabling blind people to quickly determine its value. The credit for persuading the Australian government to add this all-important bump goes to 15-year-old Connor McLeod. The blind Sydney teenager came up with the idea in 2014 after being unable to tell how much money he had received for Christmas. Connor says he was so embarrassed at not being able to see the difference between notes that he only carried coins to pay for food at the school cafeteria. To
