Overview
Master Alarm Panel indication for x-domain alarms
The Alcatel 5020 MGC consists of two domains namely:
Errors and Alarms detected by the system management of the ITCE domain will
be reported to the CMC. The related alarming is routed over to the call engine
legacy domain. The OAM will send these indications to the PLDA. The receiving
part within the PLDA is the EPG-FMM. This routes the events via CADI-FMM to
the alarm management of call engine.
This mechanism is used to indicate alarm severity (critical, major, minor) to the
CMC.
To replace the master alarm panel the following approach is now selected:
?Errors of the call engine domain are send directly to CMC as standard call engine alarms using the ROMA interface towards CMC (here we see also the
severity of ITCE-alarms that are reported as described in next bullet below)?Errors and Alarms detected by the system management of the ITCE domain will be reported to the CMC via SNMP events.
?Alarms of the call engine domain and the ITCE domain can be displayed via the Alarm view application. Accessing this application via GoGlobal from the
OWP the alarms and their severity can be looked at the OWP.
?Audible indication of alarms on the OWP is provided by the Alcatel 1359 application. The IOO part runs on the CMC and receives all alarms.
Depending on the configuration it triggers the IAP part on the OWP to give
audible indications.
Rack Alarm handling
For Alcatel 5020 MGC the rack alarm handling for cTCA racks is located in the
ITCE-domain.
For each cTCA chassis a pair of FlexManagers controls all HW events, which are
generated and detected within this chassis. These events will be collected in a
Chassis Controller (ChaCo). ChaCo is responsible for all chassis. It connects
itself to all FlexManagers for this purpose.
ChaCo supervises the following alarm conditions:
?power failures (blades, Ethernet switches,...)
?fans
?temperature
?FlexManager alarms
If Chaco detects, that the temperature within a chassis rises over a predefined
threshold, system maintenance will trigger a power down of all PBAs like blades,
FlexManagers, Ethernet switches,.. .
The other rack alarm events will not lead to an automatic system reaction. All rack
alarm events will be reported via Alarm / Report Manager.
Alarm management functions
The alarm subsystem provides notification when a fault condition occurs. It scans
for hardware alarms, reports any alarms, and gives visual and audible indication
of alarms. The alarm management software operates in real-time and provides
these functions:
?Receives unsolicited alarm reports through the report management interface
?Processes and presents current alarms
?Synchronizes these data sources:
–Alarm management current alarm list in the OAM master database
–Alarm database in the OSNCE
?Provides remote access to alarm surveillance through the Internet
The alarm management application executes on the OAM agent. It receives,
stores, and provides alarm information by these means:
1. the Alarm Monitor window
2. alarm state summaries
3. reports from the alarm database.
Alarm scan process
The alarm subsystem collects alarms at the shelf level. then it collects these
alarms in the first installed shelf in the frame.
The system periodically scans all of the shelf alarm points and external alarm
points, and reports any mismatches. The alarm reports repeat until the alarm
software receives an acknowledgment that the alarm is in the alarm list. Alarm management software
The two main areas in the alarm management software area are the Alarm
Monitor and the alarm management application.
Alarm Monitor
The Alarm Monitor is a GUI that provides a means to retrieve and view alarms
according to various categories and time periods. It communicates with the server
that is within the alarm management subsystem. The server, then, communicates
with the alarm management software area. For more information about the Alarm
Monitor and how to use it, see the ’GUI Description’
Alarm management application
The alarm management application contains the following modules:
?Alarm manager - initializes the alarm management application. The alarm manager does not retrieve or store data.
?Alarm analyzer - preprocesses alarm information before handing it off to alarm storage. It also provides an interface to receive alarm reports from the
report manager through a callback method.
?Alarm alignment - compares the two databases and, if needed, updates the OAM database to match the alarms in the OSNCE. The system performs
alignments at these times: (1) initialization, (2) periodically at a predetermined
interval, and (3) upon request through the Alarm Monitor.
?Alarm summarizer - provides a summary of the current active alarms. The alarm summarizer accesses alarm data, and prepares and maintains alarm
state summaries.
?Alarm retrieval - retrieves alarm data from the local database.
?Alarm storage - stores alarm data in a local database.
Report Subsystem Description
The report subsystem handles unsolicited event reports from the NEs. It gathers ,
aligns, logs, displays, and forwards them. The report manager logs all event
history to disk and forwards the report to other applications.
Functions
The report manager performs the following functions:
?Receives all unsolicited reports that are issued on the system
?Converts reports that have binary information into textual reports
?Logs all received reports to disk and manages the disk quota
?Accepts registrations from applications to receive some or all of the reports
?Forwards reports to registered applications.
GUIs
The report subsystem provides two GUIs to view reports:
?Report Monitor- displays unsolicited reports as they occur and provides filters to view only specific reports
?Report History- displays reports stored on disk.
Software
The report management subsystem consists of five main software components:
?Report reception interface
?Report submission interface
?Report manager
?Report Monitor GUI
?Report History GUI.
Local applications submit unsolicited reports to the report manager through the report submission interface, see figure ‘ Report Submission Process’.
