“by+ v.-ing”结构在句子中作方式状语,常用来表示“以,靠,借助,通过,用(某种方法或手段)”而达到某种预期的目的。

我想通过与英国人交谈来提高我的英语口语。

[拓展] 该结构常用来回答,How do you …?或How can I …? 这类的问题。

英语口语太难理解了。

“too + 形容词/副词+ to do sth.”结构意为“太…而不能…”,其后的不定式to do sth. 做结果状语,表示否定的意思。

“the + 比较级,the + 比较级”意为“越…越…”。当比较级修饰动词时,要用副词形式;当比较级作表语或定语时,要用形容词形式。

四、语法by+v-ing

1. The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand her most of the time. 老师说得这么快以至于大多时间我听不懂。

“so+ 形容词/副词+ that从句”意为“如此…以至于…”。当that后接否定从句时,可与“too+形容词/副词+ to do sth.”转换。

2. But I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation..但由于我糟糕的发音,我害怕提问。

Be afraid to do sth. 和be afraid of doing sth. 都意为“害怕/不敢做某事”,前者指由于心里害怕而不敢做某事,后者指由于心里害怕发生某种不良后果而不敢或不愿意做某事。

3. Although I could not understand everything the characters said, …虽然我不能完全理解角色所说的一切,…

Every, all, everything, everybody/everyone, both等表示整体的词与not连用,常表示部分否定。Not everyone likes junk food. 并不是人人都喜欢垃圾食品。

Many students ask for advice about improving their English. There are three basic questions.

The first question is about real English. Li Hao from Hubei wrote, "I enjoy watching English films and listening to real English songs. But it takes a long time. What do you think?"

This is a great way to learn English! Talk about the film or song with your friends, and guess the meaning of the new words. Just enjoy yourself!

The second question is about speaking. Sam, from Suzhou wrote, "Our school has a foreign teacher. But I'm shy and can't speak to her. What should I do?"

When I visit China, lots of people in the street say, "Hello! How are you? Where are you from? Do you like China?" These are good questions to start a conversation. Many people are shy when they speak English, so before you begin, take a deep breath and smile! Smiling always helps.

The third question is about vocabulary. Oliver, from Anhui wrote, "I want to remember all the new words. I write them down, but I forget them quickly. What should I do?"

Try to remember eight or ten words a day. Write them on pieces of paper and place them in

your bedroom. Say the words when you see them, and change them every day, and when you're shopping, how about counting the English words, or saying the English names for everything you see?

How to increase my reading speed 是“疑问词+不定式”结构,用作宾语,可以用此结构作宾语的动词有know, decide, find out, tell, forget, remember, see, understand等。这类简单句往往是由(含特殊疑问句变成的宾语从句的)复合句转换而成。如:

She didn’t know which blouse to buy. (= She didn’t know which blouse she should buy.) 她不知道买哪件衬衫。

2. He can … to practice speaking.他可以…练习口语。

Practice 作动词,意为“练习,训练”。后接动词时要用其-ing形式。

You won’t become a good singer if you don’t practive. 如果你不练习的话你不会成为一名好歌手的,

We must practice speaking English everyday. 我们必须天天练习说英语。

3.I don’t have a partner to practice English with.我没有同伴一起练习英语。

动词不定式to practice English with. 做后置定语,修饰a partner, 同时to practice English with 与a partner又构成动宾关系。practice English是不及物动词词组,加上介词with才能接partner,即practice English with a partner(不能说practice English a partner),因此with不能省略。

“I t’s + 形容词+(for/of sb.)+ to do sth.”意为“做某事(对某人而言)是…”,it 是形式主语,真正的主语是后面的动词不定式短语to do sth.,形容词作表语。另外,for 和of 的选择取决于前面的形容词。若形容词是对动词进行评价(如:difficult,dangerous等),则用for,若形容词是描述动作执行者的性格或品质(如:kind,nice等)则用of。

Keep sb. doing sth. 意为“让某人或某物不停地做某事”,keep在此有“使。。。处于某种状态”之意。I kept themwaiting on the gate. 我让他们在大门口等着。

Unless是从属连词,引导条件状语从句,含有不定式意义,相当于if 条件状语从句的否定形式。所以unless= if not,if 引导的条件状语从句和unless引导的条件状语从句,与其他时间状语从句一样,用一般现在时态代替将来时。

Unless you take more care(=if you don’t take more care), you’ll have an accident. 如果不多加小心的话,你会出事故的。

How I study English

I often hear some students say that English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they

can't learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I'm good at it. I'm very glad to tell you something about how I study English.

First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject English. It was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, and the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!

Second, I think English is a useful foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary. Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit—asking. Whenever I have a question, I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand it!

Besides this, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well.

And I also do some exercises from our class magazines, and I often write English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.

Now I have learned English for more than two years. I always keep the first position in our school. From these words, I hope every student can learn English well.

It was near Christmas during my first semester teaching at a new school. I loved my small special class more than any group I had taught in the past. They were hungry for knowledge and I was enjoying teaching.
