Old Mr. Sun, his face turns red, Sl ips o?er the hill and goes to bed.

Now all the earth is still and dark As sweetly sings the meadow lark.

When Sun is safely tucked away,

The little stars come out to play,

And one by one their smiles I spy

Like diamonds in the blue-black sky.

…Oh, Mr. Sky,? the small stars call,

…Please, may we use your big white ball??

And so it is that very soon,

The stars play kickball with the moon.

Now as the night turns back to day,

The stars dance down the Milky Way

While soundless laughter twinkles there

And one by one they disappear.

Now yawning, stretching, from the sea

Old Mr. Sun comes back to me,

And brings to me another day

So I can laugh and run and play. —Sandra E. McBride

Making friends is not easy. Sometimes it can take years before you become true friends with someone. I think there are two qualities that a true friend must have. Firstly, true friends should be honest with each other. Being honest means telling the truth all the time, but of course this is not always so easy.

Sometimes you do not want your friends to know something bad about you, such as getting a terrible mark in a test. Then you might want to tell a lie to make yourself feel better, but this is never a good idea. Y our friends will find out the truth sooner or later, and they will feel hurt because you lied to them.

The second most impor-tant quality of a true friend is being a good listener. Y ou do not want to have a friend who is not willing to listen to your problems, or a friend who might talk about your prob-lems with everybody in school. It is very important for friends to believe each other, so remember, be a good listener when your friends have problems,

and keep their secrets. Then you will have many good friends.

( )46. What are the important qualities that true friends usually have?

A. Being polite, honest and funny.

B. Being polite and a good listener.

C. Being honest, kind and helpful.

D. Being honest and a good listener.

( )47. Why is it sometimes difficult for us to be honest?

A. Because we do not like to listen to our friends? problems.

B. Because we don?t want our friends to know some-thing bad about us.

C. Because it can be fun to tell a lie.

D. Because we wan t to hurt our friends? feelings.

( )48. Why isn?t it a good idea to tell lies to our friends?

A. Because they won?t know the truth.

B. Because they will also tell lies to you.

C. Because they will feel hurt.

D. Because they will tell the lies to everybody.

( )49. One does not want his friend to ________.

A. tell others about his secrets

B. listen to his problems

C. be kind and helpful

D. be honest with him

( )50. If a person wants to have many friends, he should ________.

A. keep secrets from his friends and tell lies to them

B. be a good listener and tell others about his friends? problems

C. never talk about any problems with his friends

D. be honest with his friends and keep their secrets
