Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle viewd laughter as “a bodily exercise precious to health.”But despite some claims to the contary, laughing probably has little influence on physical fitness. Laughter does produce short term changes in the function of the heart and its blood vessels, boosting heart rate and oxygen consumption. But because hard laughters are difficult to sustain, a good health is unlikely to have measurable benefits the way, say, walking or jogging does.

In fact, instead of straining muscles to build them, as exercise does, laghter apparently accomplish the opposite. Studies dating back to the 1930s indicate that laughter relaxes muscles, decreasing muscles tone for up to 45 minutes after the laugh dies down.

Such bodily reaction might conceivably(probably)help moderate the effects of psychological stress. Anyway, the act of laughing probably does produce other types of physical feedback ||that improves one’s emotional state. According to a classical theory of emotion, our feelings are partly rooted in physical reactions. It was argued that at the end of 19th century that humans do not cry because they are sad but that they become sad when the tears begin to flow.

Although sadness also precedes tears, evidence suggests that emotions can flow from muscular response. In an experiment published in 1988, social psychologist Fritz Strack of the University of Wurzburg in Germany asked volenteers to hold a pen either with their teeth—thereby

creating an artificial smile—or with their lips, which produce a disappointed expression. Those forced to exercise their smiling muscles reacted more enthusiastically to funny cartoons than did those whose mouths were contracted in a frown, suggesting that expressions may influence emotions rather than the other way around. Similarly, the physical act of laughter could improve mood.

A bodily exercise precious to health, 笑的确会对心脏的功能和心血管the function of the heart and its blood vessels所有格的翻译。

Section Ⅰ Use of English 2012年的完型填空是有关美国司法官伦理和政治关系的一篇文章,出自New York Times, June, 30th , 2011的“Ethics, Politics and the Law”一文。 maintain. 题2选A。 而且这3年考查的意思都一致,即“易遭受……”,考查形式有“is subjected to”,“is subject to” 以及“subject sb. to sth。 “Be immune to”指“对…

[A] what 【解析】此题考查疑问代词辨析:题干中过去分词短语published from the University of California and Yale University… That is 1 a study has 2 . That is what a study has 2 来解题。 The study is a genome-wide analysis conducted 3 1932 unique subjects的要求,所选择的介词能用在conduct“实施;进行”之后,又得和subject 搭配,所以这个题目应该选择on,构成on some subjects“关于某类主题”。 4. The study 4 pairs of unrelated friends and unrelated strangers… The same people were used in both 5 . While 1% may seem 6 , it is not so to a geneticist句首的While引导让步状语从句,同时提示我们逗号后和逗号前的内容形成一定程度上的对立关系,而且作者的表达重点位于逗号之后,1%的数量对于基因研究者来说影响程度很大。 Most people do not even 7 their fourth cousins but somehow manage to select as friends the people who 8 our kin中说“大多数人甚至不他们的第四代表亲,但是尽量选择和亲属人作为朋友”。 8. [D] resemble
