In the middle of the first term of school, the entire seventh grade was tested for basic skills. Steve hurried through his tests, and continued to dream of other things. His heart was not in school, but in the woods.

One day, Miss White’s impatient voice broke into his daydreams. “Steve!! Pay attention!”. Steve turned to look at her, fixing his eyes on Miss White, as she began to go over the test results for the seventh grade.

“You all did pretty well,” she told the class, “except for one boy, and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but...” She hesitated, her eyes searching his face. “...The smartest boy in the seventh grade is failing my class!” She just stared at Steve. Steve dropped his eyes.

After that, it was war!! Steve still wouldn’t do his homework. Even as the punishments became more severe, he remained stubborn.

“Just try it! ONE WEEK!” He was unmoved.

“You’re smart enough! You’ll see a change!” Nothing touched him.

“Give yourself a chance! Don’t give up on your life!” Nothing.

“Steve! Please! I care about you!”

Wow! Suddenly, Steve got it!! Someone cared about him? Steve went home from school, thoughtful, that afternoon. Walking into the house, both parents were out. He, quickly, gathered up a jar of peanut butter, a loaf of bread, a bottle of water, and this time...his schoolbooks.

The following Monday he arrived at school on time, and he waited for Miss White to enter the classroom. She walked in, all smiles! God, she was beautiful!

Miss White, immediately, gave a quiz on the weekend homework. Steve hurried through the test and was the first to hand in his paper. With a look of surprise, Miss White took his paper. Obviously puzzled, she began to look it over. Miss White’s face was in total shock! The smartes t boy in the seventh grade had just passed his first test!

From that moment nothing was the same for Steve. Life at home remained the same, but life still changed. He discovered that not only could he learn, but he was good at it!

He discovered that he could understand knowledge and translate the things he learned into his own life. Steve began to go ahead!

Read the following reviews for movies that are showing at the moment. And then answer questions.

Happiness(Romance) ★★★★

Happiness tells the story of two people (Lisa Turbot and Danny Roy) who work for different advertising companies. They talk on the phone all the time and don't like each other. But then they correspond by email and fall in love. This movie will be very popular with teenagers and people who like romances. It also has beautiful music.

I Scream (Thriller) ★★

In I Scream, Paul (Colin Jacks) is a young man who joins a thriller club. Each of the members tries to frighten the others. Paul is told to stay in an old house for the night. Everyone who has tried to stay in the house before has died. This movie is very frightening but also quite silly. It doesn't make sense for Paul to stay in the house when things start to go wrong. Only for people who like thrillers.

Paul's Heroes (Comedy) ★★★

This is a very funny war movie set in World War Two. Six soldiers (including Sammy Turblow) have to get to Italy to take secret messages to the American army there. During the movie, they dress up as women and fight with Italian workers. You can guess the ending, but it's great fun getting there.

______________ (Drama) ★★★★

This is a very good drama with Jack Ross, who pays a hard-working truck driver. His wife becomes ill and he has to find a doctor who can help her. In his travels he meets Dr. Lloyd (Phil Driver) who has found the cure for the illness, but Jack Ross has only twelve hours to get the medicine back to his wife on the other side of America. If you walk into a shoe shop, you would see rows of shoes on the shelves. Just then, how do you know if a pair of shoes is fit for you? Here are several considerations when choosing shoes.

Comfort should be your first factor to consider. If you see a design you like, feel free to try on the shoes. If you don’t feel comfortable enough to walk in the shoes, it’s probably not the right pair of shoes for you.

Many shoes come in very specific structures. Some are meant for walking, some for running, and others for jumping. You should be very clear about when or where you’re going to wear the shoes.

The brand (品牌) and price are also the factors to consider. Let’s say a pair of brand shoes has all the features you’re looking for but is too expensive. Then what will you do? You can always choose another brand that costs a little less but still has the same features.

Be sure to choose the right type of shoes for your sport though. The ideal situation is that you should have a specific pair of shoes for a specific sport. Here are two quick examples.

Many sports like badminton, basketball, and volleyball, etc. are played indoors. The court surface is usually slippery. You’ll need a pair of shoes with a good grip(防滑力). Without a good grip, you may slip and fall.

Many activities occur outdoors. For example, someone may like mountain climbing or hiking. Usually, a pair of high-quality cross trainers(越野运动鞋) will do fine. Cross trainers allow for a wide range of movements. You can run, jump, or move sideways or backwards in them.

In all, having the right pair of shoes is important and you don’t want to be wearing a pair of
