Which is more important, health or wealth? When given this question, different people have various answers. Some insist that health plays a more important role in our life, while others see more advantages arising from wealth.
The first group of people quote the old saying “Health is above wealth” to prove their idea. They argue that, on one hand, a strong person can do almost anything as long as he/she tries hard. On the other hand, however, rich people will not be able to enjoy the wealth if their days are numbered.
In contrast, the advocates of wealth have such arguments as follows. For one thing, wealthy people will be able to buy more healthy foods. For another, they can enjoy better facilities to improve their health. Take my neighbor, as an example. He had a heart attack and is in hospital. However, he cannot afford the expensive operation, which costs as much as 100,000 yuan. Therefore, he has to lie in bed hopelessly. If he were a rich man, his life could be saved.
As far as I am concerned, both health and wealth are important to our life. We should try to strike a balance between them and gain wealth with a healthy body.

Growing up is not always easy. When facing difficulties, courage and a spirit of independence can be more useful than crying for help. That’s what Hong Zhanhui’s story of growing from boy to man with family hardships tells us.
Hong who was born in 1982 in a poor family in Xihua County, Henna Province is now a hero in people’s mind. When he was only 11, his father became mentally ill and one day came back with an abandoned baby girl. A year later, Hong’s mother and younger brother both left home because of poverty and pressure from his ill father. Their burdens fell onto the 12-year-old’s shoulders: to treat his father’s illness, bring up the adopted s ister Chenchen, and to go on to study. Hong didn’t give up. Since a young age, he has worked in part – time jobs to feed his family. At the same time, he has studied at college. To take care of Chenchen, he worked hard to rent a room near his campus for he r, and send her to school. After Hong’s story went public, people were moved to tears by his unselfishness. Hard as his life was, Hong didn’t abandon his father and the adopted sister, because they needed his help. With his hard - won money, he even aided other students struggling against misfortunes.
Hong’s story shows that with love and willpower, no hardship can defeat a person but himself. So when facing difficulties, don’t complain about bad luck. Consider what more you could do for your family and s ociety and you’ll find the world smiling back.

Centenarian Cao Zuozheng will be disappointed if she learns that her application to be a torchbearer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics has been turned down.
Last week, the 103-year-old Beijinger, as the only candidate from her residential community, was recommended to a higher authority in Beijing’s Dongcheng District.
Her whole family had kept their fingers crossed that Cao could become the oldest of the 21,880 torchbearers selected across the world.
“We appreciate Cao’s wish.But in reality, she won’t be a torchbearer due to her health
co ndition,” Li Hua, director of Jingshan sub-district office, told China Daily.
According to Li, the office has received eight recommendations, but only one of these can be passed to a higher selection body.
She refused to reveal any details about how they made the decision, except for saying “the one we have finally chosen is a Beijing model worker”.
Xiao Xinhua, the youngest of Cao’s four children, felt sad at hearing the news.
However, she didn’t dare inform Cao as “it will be a shock to someone who has such a great passion for the Games”.
Xiao argued her mother has no health problems.
The 103-year-old started exercising in 2004 to get fit enough to be a torchbearer.
“If she were not healthy enough, how could we put her at risk by applying for the position?” she asked.
“I personally believe that one centenarian torchbearer is more meaningful than 100 model workers.”
She said she would try to speak to the Dongcheng District Torch Relay Centre to see if there was any chance of realizing her mother’s dream.

Shanghai health authorities, which are busy inspecting thousands of restaurants around the city before the lunar New Year's Eve next week, are suggesting diners break with Chinese tradition during the most important holiday of the year.
Health officials are suggesting restaurants serve food on separate dishes to each customer instead of using the traditional method of serving one big dish that everyone can help themselves from.
While many eateries did that last spring during the severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak to prevent spreading the virus, the practice quickly ended when the disease was brought under control.
"New Year's dinner is a get-together for relatives and friends. Serving separate dishes may destroy the cozy atmosphere," said a manager surnamed Zhu at Shanghai Xinghualou Restaurant on downtown Fuzhou Road.
"We provide such service only if customers ask for it. Normally, we provide public chopsticks and spoons," said Zhu.
A growing number of restaurants are now providing serving spoons and chopsticks, which is more hygienic than allowing everyone to use their own chopsticks and spoons.
"Eating together from a big plate is a tradition for Chinese. Since it is a family party and all the people are relatives, it is awkward to eat from separate dishes," said Zhang Lin, a 42-year-old woman.
