Title: To Kill a Mockingbird Writer: Harper Lee
Place: Maycomb, a small town in south Alabama
Major Characters:
●Jean Louise Scout Finch: a 6 year old girl, who is very boyish, naughty and naive.
And others always call her …Scout?.
●Jem Finch: Scout?s little brother, 10 years old. He is full of passion and like
adventure so much. This is the chance for them trying to find out the mystery of …The Radley Place?
●Atticus Finch: Scout and Jem?s father, an upright lawyer, he treats his children strictly,
but he will read book to Scout before sleep, and check them many times at night. He loves his children so much. And maybe it is because they have lost their mother for several years.
●Dill: A new friend that Scout and Jem meet in summer holiday, 7 years old, cowardly and
impish.
Key Characters:
●Mr. Radley: “He was a thin leathery man with colorless eyes, so colorless they did
not reflect light. His cheekbones were sharp and his mouth was wide, with a thin upper lip and a full lower lip.” I picked this sentence from the novel. I can see that in Scout?s eyes, Mr. Radley was very bloodcurdling. As it is said that Mr. Radley tie his son Boo down to the bed, because Boo is psychopathic.
●Tom Robinson : A negro who is accused of seducing a white woman. But actually he
is undeserved. He is an honest, diligent and kind-hearted guy.
The Main Content:
This novel is narrated by the little heroine, Scout. At that time, she was 6-year -old and she had a very common life just like the other children. But the most exciting part every day must be the adventure to Mr. Radley?s house. It was a summer when Scout and Jem met Dill. They had the same hobby, that was to find out whether Mr. Radley?s son, Boo was really exist or not.
While the little three children enjoyed the time of exploration, Atticus defended a case for a Negro called Tom Robinson. Atticus knew he was innocent. But others in the Maycomb didn?t think so as there was a big discrimination between the white and the blacks at that time in America. No doubt that the Atticus?s family became the focus of public opinion. The lawsuit was failed. Scout and Jem burned into tears because they also knew that it was unfair to Tom. They couldn?t understand why the adults have the right to decide a person?s life.
Actually Atticus was not surprised with this result. He told Tom not to lose his confidence as they could appeal to the higher court. Unfortunately, Tom was killed when he was trying to run away from the prison.
I think this novel must draw to a close, but I am really wondering why the writer called this novel” To Kill a Mockingbird”. Then, something unexpected happened. One day, Scout and Jem were attacked by the man who undeserved Tom before.The attacker wanted to kill them, obviously. It was just like a miracle, the one who often help them and give toys to them appeared again. It was him who saved their life. To Atticus?s surprise, his little daughter Scout knew him. He was Boo, the legend person in Mr. Radley?s house. He was not a ghost at all.
The Moral Idea:
●“To M aycomb, Tom?s death i s typical of a nigger to cut and run. Typical of a nigger?s
mentality to have no plan, no thought for the future, just run blind first chance he saw”. But to me, Tom is the signal of the mockingbird. As we all know that a mockingbird is a sort of bird who sings all day. It will not hurt anyone except bringing happiness to them. But at the same time, they are very weak and do not have the ability to fight for themselves.
●About Boo, he is the second mockingbird as he is always ignored by others, except
Scout and Jem. So he treats them as real friends and tries his best to help them. To him, others rumor is a kind of killing.
●Scout and Jem really experienced something important in that summer. Jem loses one
of his arms to protect his sister. It is a kind of grown up to him as he has learnt the responsibility to be a brother. And what the most important thing they get from this is the transition from infantilism to maturity. And from my point of view, the murder of their innocence is another form of killing a mockingbird.

Another way is that, we should refuse to eat endangered animals, as well as use fur products. 3.Do you support doing experiment on animals? Yes, although I don’t support the suffering of animals, advances in medicine should be a priority. For example, testing pharmaceuticals on animals is still the most efficient way to examine the efficacy and safety of medicines. But I think if possible, scientists can try to look for some other alternatives before using animal as test subjects. 4.Why do some people refuse to eat animals? There are many people who are vegetarians. They consume no animal products whatsoever. In recent years, researches show that a meatless diet is healthier for people, so more people are trying to eat less meat. Some others refuse to eat animals for religious reasons. For example, in China, many people became Buddhists, and no longer kill or eat animals. 5.Why would happen when some species disappear on earth? The rate of species extinction is accelerating in recent years, which means that the environment and ecological system have been severely damaged.
