Everything You Need to Know About Coronavirus

The spread of China’s coronavirus may have started with something simple —a person buying food for dinner at an outdoor market.

The potency and movement of the virus has rallied the cooperation of various agencies, including the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization, 1 .

What is the Wuhan coronavirus?

The infection numbers are startling: Since Jan. 20, cases worldwide have surged from 282 to 9,925. The death toll stands at 213, according to Chinese officials.

The current coronavirus doesn’t have an official name yet. 2 .

3 ?

Outbreaks like this have happened before, most notably with SARS in 2003 and MERS in 2015. 4 . In all, 8,098 SARS cases were recorded, with a death toll of 774. That’s a fatality rate of 9.6%. MERS, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, originated in Saudi Arabia and resulted in 2,499 cases and 861 deaths, giving it a higher fatality rate of 34.5%.

With current numbers, the fatality rate for 2019-nCoV is 2.4%. The WHO said most coronavirus cases reported to date “have been milder, with about 20% of those infected experiencing severe i llness.”

Are people quarantined (隔离)?

5 . An estimated 5

6 million people in the country are affected by lock-downs.

Wuhan has been the hardest hit. Airports and railway stations are closed and public transportation halted. Private vehicles are banned. Residents wear face masks to protect against infection. While a new, 1,000-bed hospital is under construction, there are shortages of medicine, protective masks and other supplies.

In today’s fast-paced and sometimes uncaring society, it can be challenging to find anything to lift your spirits when you feel sad. In spite of how bad things may appear, there are some things you can do to get happy and enjoy your day. 1

Get yourself an attitude of gratitude. For centuries, people over the world have recognized how powerful gratit ude is when it comes to lifting one’s spirits. Frequently we are so caught up in what we lack that we fail to recognize all that we possess. Often, we are only reminded of the blessings present in our world when we meet someone worse off than we are or when those blessings are no longer a reality. 2 Keep a list of things for which you are grateful — in case you need to jog your memory.

Brighten someone’s day. It may be you who are feeling the blues, but when you brighten someone else’s day, yours automatically becomes brighter. Smiles spread easily. 3

Get some fresh air. Fresh air refreshes the senses and makes you more likely to get up and do something rather than sit there in an unpleasant mood. 4 Even just walking in your flower or vegetable garden will do the trick.

5 Because the heart rate and breathing rate increase during exercise, a greater amount of oxygen is delivered to the body tissue. In addition to relieving stress, heightened physical activity will decrease the level of the stress hormone (荷尔蒙). As such, your mood can quickly change from a state of stress to one of joyfulness.

A.Get some exercise.

B.Be thankful for what you have.

C.Here are some great ways to lift your spirits.

D.Go for a walk with a friend or take a bike ride.

After a long day at work, coming home is a breath of fresh air. Home is a comfortable place to sit back and relax. 1 Below are a number of things we can do to create a healthy home environment that will help to ease the workday stress and promote our physical and mental health.

Cleaning the house regularly is the first thing we should do. It may seem like a tiring thing to clean but there is a reason for doing so. We can remove dust by cleaning the house. Leaving layers of dust everywhere means that there is a build-up of dust. And where do these layers of dust go? 2

Making sure the rooms are full of sunlight is also important. We may not realize it but sunlight is an important part of our growth. We all know that sunlight promotes better working conditions. 3 Think about using a Parans system where sunlight does not reach. This technology gathers the sunlight by using solar panels (板). It can send out sunlight wherever we are.

4 Going green will help to remove toxins (毒素) in the air. They also give off oxygen, which can lower stress and improve our moods.

Along the lines of being green, it can also be vital to think about what things we are bringing into the house. Try to avoid specific plastics that are harmful to health. 5 They may contain poisonous chemicals that can be breathed in, or simply absorbed through the skin.

A. Into our lungs.

B. However, is it as healthy as it can be?

C. Is our home as comfortable as it used to be?

D. The same thing applies to certain carpets and paint.

E. It is also a good idea to add more plants in our house.

F. Besides, it can reduce both stress and high blood pressure.

G. It is acknowledged that a greener lifestyle is linked to better health.

Three in five people in the UK hold a library card. For some, libraries are a shelter from the stresses of day-to-day life. 1 If you’re considering joining your local library, now is the time to do so. And if you need any more encouragement, here are several reasons why you should.

Most libraries in the UK allow members of the general public to come and go as they like.

2 You can also take out a library card and borrow books for free, although you will inevitably face a fine for late returns.

3 Imagine just how many books you have at your fingertips with a library card. There are lots of modern ones, as well as original ones, and you can continue to expand your learning and vocabulary all the time. It’s a priceless experience, especially for kids, and also a great way to level the educational playing field.

Libraries develop with times. They have changed greatly since decades ago. 4 Some libraries have apps so you can see when your books are due back and even reserve books in some cases. There are also libraries which let you access books in digital formats on your mobile device — pretty cool.

Libraries are one of very few spaces left in towns and cities where members of the public can come together and actually be and feel like a community. They have noticeboards to offer services like exercise classes or learning centers. 5

A. Libraries help people learn.

B. Libraries help educate the kids.

C. They create a great sense of community.

D. You can go in, settle down and read a book without being charged a penny.

E. Most libraries now have computers and allow people to borrow CDs and DVDs.

F. Libraries help us save money as we’re borrowing books rather than buying them.

G. For others, particularly the homeless and people in poverty, a lifeline to the world.

Filial piety (孝心) is China’s most important morality and involves strong deference (顺从) to one’s parents. Thus, filial piety is an important value when it comes to treating one’s immediate family, elders and superiors in general.

Filial piety was originally mentioned in the Western Zhou Dynasty, 1 .

Filial piety is a general attitude of offering love, respect, support, and deference to one’s parents and other elders in the family, such as grandparents or older siblings. 2 . Besides, it involves working hard in order to provide material comforts for parents.

The idea stems from the fact that parents give life to their children, and subsequently support them throughout their developing years in terms of providing food, education, and material needs. 3 .

By looking at the Chinese character for filial piety, you will learn a lot about the term’s definition. 4 . The character is a combination of the character lao, which means “old” and zi, which means “son”. The top half of the character lao forms the top half of the character xiao, whereas the character that represents “son” forms the bottom half of the character.

5 . The character xiao shows that the older person or generation is being supported by the son, or children in general.

A.Let me tell you the definition of filial piety

B.Filial piety is clarified by the Chinese character xiao

C.Filial piety is one of the most important Chinese traditions

D.This placement is symbolic and tells of what filial piety means

E.which includes carrying on the family line and respecting the elders

F.Acts of filial piety include obeying parents’ wishes, taking care of them when they are old

G.Extending beyond one’s family, filial p iety also applies to all elders like teachers, professional superiors, or anyone who is older in age

Protecting Yourself Against Coronavirus

Wash your hands with soap and water to lower your infection risk. The best way to prevent coronavirus is to wash your hands as often as possible. 1 Work the soap into a lather (泡沫) for 20-30 seconds, then rinse your hands clean under warm running water.

Always wash your hands before you eat or drink anything. However, it’s also best to wash your hands anyt ime you’re out in public or after you’re around someone you suspect may be sick. 2

Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. You may come into contact with the coronavirus on a surface, like a doorknob. When this happens, the germs can linger on your hands, so you can easily infect yourself if you touch your face with dirty hands. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth in case the virus is on your skin. 3

4 Since coronavirus is a respiratory infection, coughing and sneezing are common symptoms. Additionally, coughing and sneezing both release the virus into the air, so keep your distance from people who appear to have symptoms of an upper respiratory infection.

Disinfect high-touch surfaces daily using a product that kills viruses. Unfortunately, coronavirus can linger on surfaces, such as doorknobs and counter-tops. Use a spray disinfectant (消毒剂) to clean these surfaces daily. Make sure the surface stays wet for about 10 minutes so it effectively kills the virus.

5 At work, clean surfaces that people tend to touch, such as doorknobs, stair railings, tables, and surface counters.

Try not to worry too much if you’re not truly at risk. Myths about coronavirus have spread on social media, sometimes causing unnecessary fear. It’s helpful to fact-check your sources before making any decisions.

A.If you suspect you have the virus, contact your doctor immediately.

B.Wet your hands with warm water, then apply a mild soap.

C.If it’s appropriate, ask the person to stay away from you.

D.Stay away from people who are coughing or sneezing.

E.If you can’t wash your hands, use a hand sanitizer (洗手液) that contains 60%+ alcohol.

F.If you need to touch your face, wash your hands first so you’re less likely to infect yourself.

G.In your home, disinfect your front doorknob, kitchen counters, bathroom counters, and faucets (龙头).
