Critical reading of popular music

There are some voices which give a pure shock to the listeners. It is like a ball hits the softest parts of our heart from a very far away place. We will feel happy and it will feel like a home run when we listen and enjoy these voices. In 20th century of America, there are too many popular bands or singers. The reason why I choose these three albums is not only they are popular in 20th century, but also they are the representative bands in their styles. At the same time, these three bands created a musical era in their decade and changed the world of music with their special songs. and now, here are these albums which I believe that can shock your soul

The first album I share with you is named Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. It was a perfect recording by top jazz musicians in the 20th century. This album is the classic of the classic in the history of jazz recording. It is not only the best-selling album but also it is the most important one in its very far-reaching impact on the fans. Each time you enjoy the album, you can get the familiar feelings and appreciate details unnoticed. As the first time I listen to this fantastic album, I felt a little bit sadness inside the lyric, which is an amazing feeling that I am able to feel the deep emotion inside the album, and it is suitable. In fact, the title of this album, Kind of Blues, tells

us everything about it. The reason why it is believed to contain all the elements required for jazz is the key factor, blues. As the predecessor of Jazz, Blues laid a foundation of jazz music, and it let jazz music distinguish itself from classical music. From some meanings, all jazz music is mainly about blues. This album leads to the expanded concept of modal jazz. In this concept, it is not important to stress the chords and personal skills. Instead, a tacit understanding of teamwork between musicians is the most important point. The cooperation makes one song become more powerful and have more an emotional appeal. I think good music is not just enjoying well; it is pleasant to listen. Good music can elicit your emotions, and immerse you in the musical atmosphere. Kind of Blues is this type of album; it contains all the elements we need from a good album:mysterious, poetic, quiet, sad, sexy. Herbie Hancock said “if you want a kind of music to make love to, that's it.” I think it is the reason why this album is popular in the 20th century in America.

After the blues period, the next coming style is rock music in 1970s. The second album I want to recommend the public to listen to is Led Zeppelin. The album Led Zeppelin is the first album of the music group Led Zeppelin. This music group is a British rock band. The band, which is a group that plays a critical position in the development of hard rock and heavy metal music. Led Zeppelin is one of the music bands which has a huge influence in a 20th century. They committed to using noise in a revolutionary way to reform British blues-rock and created the perfect blend of blues in the music. Led Zeppelin is an authoritative heavy metal band. Not only did they use the burst of noise to interpret the blues, more importantly, they assimilated

myth, mysticism, and many other styles into their music. The first album, Led Zeppelin has the same name as their band. This album is a pioneer of heavy metal music. The whole album is full of exaggerated distortion sounds and the perfect fusion of blues and rock. The song “Dazed and Confused” is the first famous song i n this album, when in their live performance, the musician Jimmy Page used a violin bow to play guitar. It Formed a different rock noise of sound effects, and also it is one of the iconic acts in the history of rock music. In this album, there are a few songs adapted from the classic blues music. But most songs highlighted the unique and massive tone of this band. The first album of this heavy metal music band laid the cornerstone of the legendary band and at the same time, it invaded into US market. In the next ten years, the rock music began to become mainstream music in America. Rock music is suitable for young people, not only the exciting melody, the expression of rock and roll music also content passed out of some kinds of social demands and the needs of ordinary people. I think this is the reason why rock music becomes popular in those years. And as one of the most important albums of this period of time, I believe that this album can fully represent the Rock music of the 70s.

At last, let us go to the 1990s in the music world in America.OK Computer is the third studio album by the English alternative rock band Radiohead, released in 1997. This album shocked the world. By using wonderful music and a mood of boredom to sketch out the most exciting rock works in the 1990s. The whole album is full of sick, bleak and dim sounds. The band uses a variety of instruments on the album, including electric piano, Mellotron, and some other electronic effects. With these instruments,

the band created a kind of emotional, weird atonal atmosphere. From the first note of the song “Airbag” in this album, the band. Radiohead has already taken you to the space of self-pity. And also, this song declares the return of born again. The song “Paranoid Android”makes the listener feel ups and downs. It is a branching off of Fantasia. It is the longest song on this album, if the song airbag is the return, then the song, “Paranoid Android”confirmed this point. The lead singer, Thom Yorke, was fully invested in his performances and sang the madness and grief of this paranoid robot. “Exit Music”, this sad song is the ending of the movie Romeo and Juliet. Each song in this album has a kind of power. It brings your emotions down, and then down. Further, the most favorite song in this album is no surprise. It is one of the most straightforward songs on this album. At first, the band wanted to create a harmonious atmosphere. However, the lyrics describe a scene of suicide or a down and out life. The lyrics are angry with the social and political order in those years. The reason why this album has succeeded is this album that it could mobilize all the senses of our body to feel the feeling of the sad and the helpless for this world in the air. Humans have the same genes; we are moved because some genes fit in the music sense.

Each of the most representative bands in the different decade is serious thought, and they can be obtained popularity successful. They were able to be both a critical and commercial success; the reason is they can grasp and respond to imagine the times. Their songs have a better power of summarizing the spirit of the times than any political declarations. They can impact the young people to concern about the political. And these reasons are why these bands become popular in their own age. Following

the change of time, people in America changed their favorite in music parts. Maybe the main reason why listeners change is the change of environment. We can see the history from popular songs, because these songs show the opinion of people in those years. This is the reason why I shared these albums, Kind Of Blues, Led Zeppelin, and Ok Computer. They can represent the blues music, rock music and punk music in different ages.

You should write at least 120 words according to the given information below: 1.高校毕业生,尤其是女生,就业压力大; 2.用人单位在招聘时以各种原因歧视女生; 3.你对在就业中“男女不平等”的看法。 Gender Inequality in Employment of College Graduates In recent years, the number of college graduates is skyrocketing (猛涨), while the number of job vacancies (空缺) is limited and seemingly shrinking. If you pay attention to the “want ads”in newspapers or on the Campus Information Board, you can find words like “males preferably,” or even “males ONLY.” When hunting for jobs in the Talent Fair, female graduates are more likely to sense the bias in employment that favors male graduates over females. The discrimination against females in employment widely exists for a variety of reasons. The employers have their sound reasons —women are not fit for some of the jobs they offer. Most employers believe that women would not devote themselves to their careers as much as men do, for they spend more time and energy on family life or housework. Apart from this, it is generally accepted that females are physically and intellectually inferior to males, so they are not able to contribute much due to their incapability. Furthermore, the biological difference is

Introduction: As a global oil, gas and mining company in Australia, BHP Billiton releases a report on 11 April 2011 which says it completes AU$6 billion off-market buy-back of BHP Billiton limited shares recently. The managers choose using this method to increase the stock price. Managers expect share repurchases to influence BHP Billiton positively and benefit their shareholders. But it brings some controversies between analysts and other shareholders. This paper discusses how does the dividend policy work and how a company returns the excess cash to their shareholders using share buyback. Dividend is one way of payments of corporation profits paid out to shareholders. When the corporation gets a profit, surplus can be used in two ways: if it’s regarded as retained earnings, it can be reinvested in the next or future business, or it can be allocated to stockholders as a dividend in proportion of how many shares they hold. However, what the year’s dividends shareholders can obtain have to see a company's business performance, as dividends are received from profits after taxes which are either the only resource of dividends and bonuses, or the limit of a company's dividend payout. In general, there are several forms to pay dividends: stock dividends, cash dividends, property dividends and other dividends. The stock dividend means a corporation sends to shareholders on a new stock as their dividends, and the latter is a company pays cash as dividends to their shareholders. This way is the simplest and most essential of dividend pay out. Furthermore, allocating dividends must follow some principles. Firstly, profits after tax must be deducted in accordance with the necessary policy before they can be used for distribution of dividends. Secondly, they should carry out dividend policy which has been made by the company. Thirdly, a dividend payout must perform the same to the share with the principles. Lastly, when listed companies pay dividends following the above principles, they should pay

KWIC Implemented with Main/Subroutine Architectural Style (Assignment 1) 1.Questions 1.Which modules from the original KWIC system did you need to modify to implement the new data representation of circular shifts? What conclusion can you draw here? How does the KWIC system implemented by means of main/subroutine architecture with shared data withstand design changes in data representation? 解答:实现新的data representation,需要修改circularShift()、alphabetizing()、output()三个模块。从修改过程可知,采用全局变量会使程序的可扩展性很差,难以修改数据结构,否则“牵一发而动全身”,其优点在于系统结构简单,程序简洁明了。 2.Which modules from the original KWIC system did you need to modify to add filtering function to the system? Was it difficult to add a new processing component (filter function) accessing the shared data? Can we conclude here that the KWIC system with main/subroutine architecture with shared data is robust to desing changes in system's function (assuming that new functions access the shared data)? 3.Would it be difficult to reuse modules from the existing KWIC system in other systems? For example, suppose that in another software system we need to sort a number of lines. Suppose also that in this system lines are represented differently than in the existing KWIC system. Could we reuse the existing
