一、说教材（教材分析） Analyzing teaching material

1. 说课型 lesson type (Dialogue/ reading/ listening/ revision)

Lesson 33 Saving the Earth is a dialogue. The lesson is focused on the topic of the problems of the earth and the functional items of Supposition/ Intentions/ conjecture/ Prohibition. Since it is a dialogue / reading. It’s helpful to improve the Ss communicative/ reading ability.

It can also make the Ss reach a better understanding of the text by making the classes lively and interesting. At the same time, it arouses the Ss’interest in learning English.

Task-based learning： New Syllabus Design encourages teachers to use this teaching method. TBLT can stimulate Ss’ initiative in learning and develop their ability in language application. Make the Ss the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as the director and bring their ability into full play.

2. Teach Ss how to develop the reading skill —skim & scan; how to communicate with others; how to learn new words; how to learn independently;

四、说教学过程Teaching procedures

I. 复习 (Revision) 5min (Daily report; 词汇diagram; brainstorming; activate schemata)

Activity 1： Imagination

1). Suppose a bottle of ink is turned over and dirties your white shirt, what is to be done? (Wash it? Or throw it away?)

2). Suppose you catch a bad cold, what’s to be done?

3). Suppose your bike is broken, what’s to be done?

4). And suppose the earth, on which we all live, is damaged, what’s to be done?

* What can you think of when you see “pollution” this word?(waste, environment, air, water, factory, desert, climate... Try to activate the Ss schemata regarding the topic of pollution.)

II. 表现 (Presentation) 5min

Activity 2： Presentation

Play the song “Earth Song” sung by Michael Jackson. (Create an atmosphere)

A lot of pictures and video clips about the causes and results of the three problems mentioned in this lesson will be shown on the screen with the help of the computer.

Ss’presentation on pollution. Attract their attention, arouse their interest, and create a good atmosphere for communication.

* Activate their schemata and cultivate their ability in collecting information from the Internet and develop their ability in thinking independently.

Think of the question： Are we causing damage to the world?

Part one Analysis of the teaching material

Ⅰ Status and function

This is an important part in this book.On the one hand ,it reviews some modals we have learned .On the other hand, it refers to the usage of some modals in questions.It introduces the serious disease SARS as well.It goes on talking about how to keep healthy.It is also the climax of this unit.Such a topic is related to daily life,so it is helpful to raise learning interests of students and it will be also helpful to improve their spoken English.

Ⅱ Analysis of the students

The students have learned some modals before ,so maybe they will be boring in learning them again.In my opinion,taking effective ways to enable the students to speak is more important.But probably students will be interested in talking about the SARS they have suffered.

1. Learn some useful words and expressions：

2. Go on learning the modal verbs “should” and “must”.

Ⅳ Teaching key and difficult points

The teaching key and difficult points’ basis is established according to Section A of Topic 3 in the teaching material's position and function.

1.Key points：

(1)Talk about how to fight SARS.

(2)To enable the Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully.

2.Difficult points：

How to use “must”“have to”correctly in sentences,especially in questions.

Ⅴ Teaching Aids

Part Two The Teaching Methods

1. Communicative teaching method

2. Audio-visual teaching method

3. Task-based teaching method

As we all know,the main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to cultivate students’abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method,

“Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue.

Teaching special features ：

To use these methods are helpful to develop the Ss’ thought.

Part Three Studying Ways

1.Teach the Ss how to be successful language learners.

2.Let the Ss pass "Observation—Imitation—Practice " to study language.

3.Teach the Ss how to master dialogues and how to communicate with others. Teaching special features：

Let the Ss communicate with each other and adopt competition methods to develop the Ss’ keen interest in English.

Part Four Teaching Procedure

I’ll finish this section in four steps. First I’ll divide the Ss into several groups and bring a competition into the class. At last let’s see which group is the winner.

Step 1 Review

Show some pictures about the habits in life.Let the students talk about good habits and bad habits in life ,using the following sentences︰We should ……

We should not ……

We had better ……

We had better not ……

We must ……

We must not……

Purpose of my designing： I think it is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss by imitating and at the same time it is necessary to provide situations to review learned knowledge.

Step 2 Presentation

Present some pictures about SARS.Say,there was a serious disease in 2003,what was it ?Help the students answer SARS.Then present some sentences while saying them under the pictures to recall something happened in 2003.

When SARS came, we were told to wash hands often,keep the room clean and open the windows all the time.The parents and doctors also told us to do more exercise,keep away from wild animals,and we′d better not go to the crowded places.Right?Underline the verb phrases.Let the students try to read the sentences once to understand these sentences.

Purpose of my designing：Help the students have a primary understanding of the new lesson that refers.

Let the students listen to 1a,and answer some questions：

What does kangkang′s father do ?

What do you know about SARS?

What should we do to fight it ?

Let students read 1a and find out the items they don′t understand . Invite one student explain the questions and check the students′answers. Teach the new words and phrases：hurry up,journalist,question,go ahead,finally.Master hurry up,question,go ahead .

Play the tape recorder. Let the Ss listen again and imitate the dialogue. Pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation. In this step the Ss are required to practise the dialog in pairs by reading the dialogue aloud. This step is employed to make the Ss grasp the dialog further .At last I’ll ask the Ss in groups to think hard and act it out according to example as follows： Then find out which group will act it out well. I’ll give

them red stars. (Example：

A：May I ask you some questions?

B：Sure,go ahead.

A：What should we do to fight SARS?

B：We should eat healthy food.

C：We should do more excises to build our bodies up.

D：We should keep our rooms clean and often open the windows.

B：We should not go to croweded places.

C：We should go to see a doctor if we don′t feel well.

Encourage the students to say the dialog fluently .

Purpose of my designing： This step is employed to make the Ss get the general idea of the dialogue as a whole one. At the same time let the Ss have a chance to practise their listening and spoken abilities.

Step3 Consolidation

Let the students think up more good ideas to prevent SARS.Then finish 1b according to the tape.

Present the answers through the PPT.

This step is to improve the studen ts’listening and speaking abilities and to consolidate what they have learned.

Step4 Practice

Let the students look at the pictures carefully in 2.Then finish the blanks alone.

Invite some students to say their answers and check them.

Let the students work in pairs to finish 1c.Act the dialogs out .Master the usage of “must”and“have to”.Explain them if necessary.Encourage the students to make the other new dialogs according to the dailogs in 1c.Then invite some pairs to present them.

Purpose of my designing：Let the students try to experience the difficult points by speaking and observing. “Task-based”teaching method is used here to develop the Ss’ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained. If the Ss can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English.

Finish the Ss’ workbook.

Purpose of my designing： To check the knowledge Ss have learned in this lesson.

Homework

Students can choose one of them or both to finish.

1.Write a report about how to fight SARS,you can choose the other diseases to describe.

2.Make a new dialogue according to what we learned in this sectoion,try not to be the same as the dialog in this section and write it in the exercise book.

Purpose of my designing： I think homework is so important that the Ss should learn English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned. In Lesson 37, Danny will introduce a new type of transportation to us, it is imaginary. 2. To attain “four skills” request of listening, speaking, reading and writing, I will have the students do some exercise about the text. 3. Such a topic is very important in this unit. I will lead the students to use their imagination and encourage them to be creative. For example, helping them use English to describe their imaginary transportation. So I think if the students can learn this lesson well, it will be helpful to make them learn the rest of this unit. 4. While teaching them, I will also encourage them to say something about what they think the future transportations will be like.
