How fit are your teeth? Are you lazy about brushing them?Never fear:An inventor is on the case.An electric toothbrush senses how long and how well you brush, and it lets you track your performance on your phone.

The Kolibree toothbrush was exhibited at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.It senses how it is moved and can send the information to an Android phone or iPhone via a Bluetooth wireless connection.

The toothbrush will be able to teach you to brush right(don't forget the insides of the teeth!) and make sure you're brushing long enough.“It's kind of like having a dentist actually watch your brushing on a day-to-day basis,”says Thomas Serval, the French inventor.

The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other applications on your phone,so developers could, for instance, create a game controlled by your toothbrush. You could score points for beating monsters among your teeth.“We try to make it smart but also fun,”Serval says.

Serval says he was inspired by his experience as a father. He would come home from work and ask his kids if they had brushed thei r teeth. They said“yes,”but Serval would find their toothbrush heads dry.He decided he needed a brush that really told him how well his children brushed.

The company says the Kolibree will go on sale this summer, for $99 to $199,depending on features. The U.S.is the first target market.

“Dad,” I say one day, “let's take a trip. Why don't you fly out and meet me?”

My father had just retired after 27 years as a manager for IBM. His job filled his day, his thoughts, his life. While he woke up and took a warm shower, I screamed under a freezing waterfall in Peru. While he tied a tie and put on the same Swiss watch, I rowed a boat across Lake of the Ozarks.

My father sees me drifting aimlessly, nothing to show for my 33 years but a passport full of funny stamps. He wants me to settle down, but now I want him to find an adventure.

He agrees to travel with me through the national parks. We meet four weeks later in Rapid City.

“What's our first stop?” asks my father.

“What time is it?”

“Still don't have a watch?”

Less than an hour away is Mount Rushmore. As he stares up at the four Presidents carved in granite (花岗岩), his mouth and eyes open slowly, like those of a little boy.

“Unbelievable,” he says. “How was this done?”

A film in the information center shows sculptor Gutzon Borglum devoted 14 years to the sculpture and then left the final touches to his son.

We stare up and I ask myself, Would I ever devote my life to anything?

No directions, no goals. I always used to hear those words in my father's voice. Now I hear them in my own.

The next day we're at Yellowstone National Park, where we have a picnic.

“Did you ever t ravel with your dad?” I ask.

“Only once,” he says. “I never spoke much with my father. We loved each other—but never said it. Whatever he could give me, he gave.”

That_last_sentence—it's_probably_the_same_thing_I'd_say_about_my_father._An d_what_I'd_want_my_child_to_say_about_me.

In Glacier National Park, my father says, “I've never seen water so blue.” I have, in several places of the world. I can keep traveling, I realize — and maybe a regular job won't be as dull as I feared.

Weeks after our trip, I call my father.

“The photos from the trip are wonderful,” he says. “We've got to take another trip like that sometime.”

I tell him I've decided to settle down, and I'm wearing a watch.

I wanted to buy something today —until I figured out the cost versus the benefit. At that point I knew it was a completely stupid idea.

What I wanted to buy was an older car to have in addition to my four-year-old Smart Car that absolutely like. So you wonder, if I like the Smart Car, why would I want to have another car as well? The reason is ... grandkids.I have several and in the Smart Car I can only have one passenger (It's a two-seater). Besides, one of my daughters-in-law do es not trust the Smart Car as a vehicle for her daughter Lily to ride in, so that's one little girl I can't take anywhere at all. My husband also has a car — and a truck — but I have driven the truck only a couple of times in the many years we've had it an d I have not driven his year-old car at all.

So that's why I had the stupid idea to buy an old Toyota I found on the lot of
