Grammar and usage

Good afternoon,instructors!My name is Ling Jiajia.It is my great pleasure to share my teaching ideas with you.I would be very appreciated if you could give me your precious advice. Today my teaching topic is grammar and usage in unit 2 Growing pains,from Advance With English Book 1.Now let's begin.

一、the analysis of the text

This period mainly talks about the usage of preposition+which/whom or preposition+when/where/why.In fact,it belongs to the grammar of attributive clause. This grammar plays an important role not only in this unit but also in the whole book.It is the frequent examination point in the college entrance examination.And it also is the connecting link between unit 1 and unit 3 because the grammar of Book 1 is about attributive clause. Hence,this grammar is very important for student to master attributive clause.

1、the teaching goals

The knowledge goal:

To get a understanding of the preposition+which/whom or preposition+when/where/why.

The ability goal:

To improve the abilities of understanding attributive clause and the

abilities of reading and writing.

The emotion goal:

To promote their love for English and improve their confidence.

“介词+关系代词”考点分析

总的说来,选择介词不外乎三条:一是根据句子意思表达的需要,二是根据从句中动词或形容词与介词的习惯搭配 ,三是根据先行词和介词的习惯搭配。

考查定语从句中谓语部分的搭配习惯

(1)看定语从句中动词与介词的搭配

The documents for which they were searching have been recovered. (2)看定语从句中形容词或分词与介词的搭配

He referred me to some reference books with which I am not very familiar.

考查先行词与介词的搭配习惯

这类考题往往要根据具体的语境来选择介词。如:

This is our classroom, in the front of which there is a teacher’s desk.

考查根据句意确定介词

Tom, by whom the window was broken, has been criticized by his

teacher.

考查表示所属关系的of which [whom]

On the blackboard the teacher wrote a sentence, the meaning of which I don’t understand.

考查表示整体与部分关系的of which [whom]

The buses, most of which were already full, were surrounded by an angry crowd.

考查表示同位关系的of which [whom]

Her sons, both of whom work abroad, rang her up this morning. 注意:

含介词的引导词,其介词可放在引导词whom, which前或在从句原来的位置上。介词不提前,其在从句中作宾语的引导词who, whom, that,which可省。

但含有介词的短语动词一般不能拆开,如look after, be made of, take part in, look forward to等。

例:The babies (who/whom) the nurses look after look strong and happy. where = at/in/to… + which

when = at/in/on/during + which

why = for which

whose book = the book of which = of which the book

定语从句的用法,定语从句与其他从句的区别。

High school is a time of discovery,learning and hard work. So when teaching senior students,we should make every effort to encourage their initiative and creativity.Therefore,in the class the teacher is to act as a guide and the students as an actor to do the activities.So we can adopt the following theories:

Teaching theories:

Communicative Teaching;

3P Teaching: presentation, practice ,production.

(1)Before dealing with this lesson, I'll do my best to carry out the following theories:

A、Make the S the real master in class while the teacher himself acts as a director;

B、Let the student receive some moral education while he is learning the English language.

三、the analysis of the studying methods

Through the five-year-time english study,Senior students in grade 1 master a certain amount of words and phrases and also have a general

understanding of english culture.So students in the class are expected to be the main body,namely, most of the time in the class should be spent on the students.Thence senior students must develop a positive attitude towards English study.Teachers should do as follows:

(1)Teach students how to be successful language learners.

(2)Teach students how to develop the reading skills :skimming&scanning; how to communicate with others ;how to learn new words; how to learn English independently.

(3)Get the students to form good learning habits.

In a word,teachers must connect the teaching methods with studying methods in order to make students have an effective learning.

For example,3P teaching methods:

In the phase of presentation,teachers should do their best to let students get a vivid understanding of the content the unit talks about and encourage them to have a discuss about the content so as to trigger their further learning interests;

In the phase of practice,students are expected to devote themselves to the relative practice,such as discuss,pair work,program and so on.Through this stage,students know how to use the knowledge they learned and consequently they will master the knowledge better.

In the phase of the produce,teachers will arrange some tasks or homeworks to assess the students' learning effects.Students should review

all the knowledge learned in the class and finish the homeworks independently.

四、arrangement of the teaching procedure

I will take four steps to explain the text.

(1)lead-in stage

In the beginning of the class,I will show students some choice questions about the grammar and then explain this knowledge.For example,

(2)explanation stage

In this stage,teachers are the main body.I will explain the grammar in detail and then explain the grammar of attributive clause connected with a lot of example sentences and practice.

(3)Consolidation stage

I will give them some College entrance examination questions on the blackboard to test effect of the lesson and then explain them carefully. (4)Homework

Relative choice questions

五、evaluation and reflection

Evaluate the effect of this class and improve it afterwards.Adopt the methods of self-assessment and task-assessment.

六、Design of blackboard

Blackboard design should be think for a thing that attracts the student’ s attention and let them to write down the important teaching points. I will divide the blackboard into two parts .The left part will be used to write the important vocabulary and grammar and their usage. It will be reserved for the whole class. The right part will be prepared for explanation, I will write some sentence of the words ,phrases and structures to explain their meaning.

Generally,when teaching senior students,what teachers should do is to do everything they can to trigger students' studying interests and develop their studying initiative and creativity .If a teacher can do it,I think It will be a successful lesson.I know it exists some shortcomings in the lesson,I will try my best to improve my teaching level.That's all,thank you!

By studying of this text, I will help students to learn about the story of Atlanta and motivate the Ss’ interest in learning about the culture of English speaking countries in the world. At the same time, lead the students to write stories with their imagination. (As we all know, reading belongs to the input period during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing.) Therefore, this lesson mainly focus on motivating students’interest in reading more English materials and on the reading sills of getting information quickly. In this lesson, I will mainly help students to understand this passage and practice some reading skills such as skimming, scanning and so on. A、Teaching Aims According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus (新课程标准和教学大纲), and after studying the teaching material, I set the teaching aims from three dimensions: 1.Knowledge objects (语言目标:语音,词汇,语法,功能,话题) (1) the usage of the important words and expressions: (2) important sentence patterns: …… 2.Ability objects (技能目标:听,说,读,写) (1) After this lesson, the Ss have a clear idea of the story . Ⅲ. 教材分析和教材重组 1. 教材分析 本单元以机器人和科幻小说为话题,介绍了20世纪世界知名的科幻小说家Isaac Asimov写于1951的Satisfaction Guaranteed 和作者的生平。通过本单元的教学,旨在让学生了解科幻小说最大的特征在于:它赋予了“幻想”依靠科技在未来得以实现的极大可能,甚至有些“科学幻想”在多年以后,的确在科学上成为了现实。如Isaac Asimov1951年描述的机器人的部分功能已经被应用于现实生活和工作中。在教学中,要鼓励学生敢于幻想,大胆创新,发挥自己丰富的想象力和创作力,写出独具特色的科幻文章。 1.1 Warming Up介绍了什么是机器人和不同种类及不同形状的机器人。 1.2 Pre-reading 通过讨论机器人是否像人类一样有自己的思维、是否有感情引出Isaac Asimov的科幻小说Satisfaction Guaranteed,为本单元的Reading做好了铺垫。

1.3 Reading的课文是Isaac Asimov写于1951的科幻小说Satisfaction Guaranteed。文中描述的机器人Tony是一个除去面无表情外,身材高大、相貌英俊、聪明机智的完美男人,仅三周的时间就使女主人坠入爱河。 1.4 Comprehending共有3个练习,练习1是关于克莱尔的情感变化,练习2是关于课文内容的5个问答题,旨在考查学生对课文的理解;练习3要求学生比较机器人Tony在physical, mental两方面与人的异同,与Pre-reading 部分的问题相呼应。 1.5 Learning about Language分为两部分,Discovering useful words and expressions是本单元词汇练习题;Revising useful structures是本单元语法练习题,通过本单元的学习,要求学生熟练掌握不定式的被动语态。 1.6 Using Language分为两部分,Listening and speaking是Molly 和Kate 讨论Satisfaction Guaranteed的对话录音,要求学生根据对话内容学会运用表达自己观点的常用句型。这部分教学内容还要求学生以机器人为话题,充分发挥自己的想象力,谈论机器人做家务的利与弊。并且要求自己动手设计机器人,附上文字说明。Reading, discussing and writing部分的内容是科幻小说家Isaac Asimov的生平介绍。文章后附有练习题。第一题要求学生根据时间线索了解在作者生命中发生的重要事件;第二、三题要求学生讨论Isaac Asimov的“机器人三定律”。 2.教材重组 2.1 将Warming Up、 Pre-reading、 Reading与Comprehending整合在一起上一节“阅读课”。
