Part ⅠWriting

The Impact of the Information Explosion

As is known to us all, we are now living in the age of “information explosion”. That is, we are surrounded by much information. It is true that information explosion brings convenience to our life, but it also leads to the distraction of our attention.

Just as the famous saying goes, “A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention.” .For example, there are so many advertisements on the Internet that we are easily distracted by the irrelevant information of the target website. In addition, the information itself is of various kinds, either healthy or violent. The bad information may even arouse violent crimes.

Therefore, it is high time we adopted proper methods to avoid being distracted by irrelevant information. For one thing, we can make a list of key words about what we will search on the Internet. For another, we can set a time limit for the search of the target information. Thus, the search is more effective and time is saved greatly at the same time.

PartⅢReading Comprehension

Section A

36、H)。空格前的their提示所填词是名词,E) circulation,H) enthusiasm,J) impact,K) penalty 入选。lose their 36与减少他们的努力程度(reduce their effort)以及寻找新的工作(search for a new job)并列,同属于杰出表现没有得到肯定的员工可能的行为,所以答案应该是H) enthusiasm (热情),lose their enthusiasm在这里指对工作失去热情。

37、L)。空格前的will提示所填词是动词原形,B) affect, D) assimilate, I) identify,J) impact, L)reward入选。 排除B) affect(影响)、D) assimilate (同化)、I) identify (识别)以及J) impact (影响)。

38、I)。空格前的must提示所填词为动词原形,B) affect,D) assimilate, I) identify,J) impact入选。

39、J)。所填词位于have... on...

J) impact。have impact on…

40、A)。 A)additional,G)consistent,

M) simplifying,N) suspending,O) vulnerable入选。

42、G)。should be... with提示空格处为形容词,同时用于be...with结构,剩佘的形容词选项中只有G) consistent 符合要求,be consistent with意为“与…

Section B

Passage One

46、【定位】根据题目中的require和up to five hundred words 将本题出处定位于[G]段第1句。

47【定位】根据题目中的selective colleges and universities 和the traditional deadline 将本题出处定位于[B]段最后一句。

January up to Nov. 1 or early December。

48、【定位】题目中的sway the admissions committee 和A)段第5 句中的seduce an admissions committee 表达的意思相近,故将本题出处定位于[A]段第5句。

【精析】[A]。

51、【定位】根据题目中的experiences,, slip into clich6s和the reader将本题出处定位于[J]段。

题目是对[J]段所隐含的因果关系的提炼及同义转述,题目中的failing to engage the reader 对应末句的lose the reader。

52、【定位】根据题目中的according to a recent survey, public colleges and universities 和grades highly

53、【定位】根据题目中的causes lots of anxiety 及in the college’s decision-making process 将本题出处定位于[M]段。

题目中的does not play so important a role 对应末句中的simply not a big variable。

54、【定位】根据题目中的question, outside the self和its impact on you将本题出处定位于[L]段第2句。

55、【定位】根据题目中的a sample of their school papers和writing ability将本题出处定位于[E]段第2句。

Section C

Passage One

【精析】A)。 A) optimism for the future 对应原文的hopefulness,故为正确答案。

Passage Two

【精析】A)。 The human imagination readily soars where human ingenuity struggles to follow的同义转述,故为正确答案。

C) It sounded very much like a dream 是对原文中those word, too, had a dreamlike quality 的同义转述,故为答案。

【精析】A)。

PartⅣTranslation

①Since ancient times, the Chinese people have celebrated bumper harvest on the Mid-Autumn Festival. ②This custom resembles that of Thanksgiving Day in the North America. ③The custom of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival became popular all over China in the early Tang Dynasty. ④Celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a day for worshiping the moon.⑤At night, family members get together and enjoy the bright moon in the sky.⑥In 2006, the Mid-Autumn Festival was listed as a Chinese cultural heritage, and in 2008 designated as a public holiday.⑦⑧The mooncake, an indispensable food of the Festival, is often used as a gift for relatives and friends or enjoyed at family gatherings. ⑨Traditional mooncakes are imprinted with Chinese characters with such meanings as “longevity”, “happiness” or “h armony” etc.

“中秋节”的英文表达是“the Mid-Autumn Festival”,题中没有给出,这提示考生要掌握中国几大主要传统节日的英文表达,如春节(the Spring Festival )、端午节(the Dragon Boat Festival)和元宵节(the Lantern Festival)等。

十分相似”有多种表达法:可译作“is very much like...”、“is similar to...”

节”用动词“celebrate”,“开始流行”译作“beca me popular”,“在中国各地”译作“all over the country/China”。

的节日”译作“is a day for...”,“拜月”译作“worship the moon”。

5、⑤句中的“团聚”和“共赏明月”译作并列谓语“get together and enjoy the bright moo n”。

其中“被列为中国的文化遗产”可译作“was listed as a Chinese cultural heritage” 或“was added to the Chinese cultural heritage list”。

主语为“月饼”,将⑦句中的“被视为中秋节不可或缺的美食”译作“an indispensable food of the Festival”,作“the mooncake”的同位语,将⑧句译作被动语态“is often used as a gift for relatives and friends or enjoyed at family gathering s”。

为准确表达出该句的意思,应将“寿”、“福”与“和”这三个字的意思、翻译出来,译作with such meanings as “longevity”,“happiness”or “harmony”。

2013年6月英语六级真题及答案(文都版) Part ⅣReading Comprehension (Reading in Depth) (25 minutes) Question 47 to 51 are based on the following passage often assumed musical Highly proficient musicianship is hard won. Although it’s evidence that this isn’t the case. While it seems ability us inherited, there’s abundant that at birth virtually everyone has perfect pitch, the reasons that one child is better than another are motivation and practice. Highly musical children were sung to more as infants and more encouraged to join in song games as kids than less musical ones, long before any musical ability could have been evident. Studies of classical musicians prove that the best ones practiced considerably more from childhood onwards than ordinary orchestral players, and this is because their parents were at them to put in the hours from a very young age. The same was true of children selected for entry to specialist music schools, compared with those who were rejected. The chosen children had parents who had very actively supervised music lessons and daily practice from young ages, giving up substantial periods of leisure time to take the children to lessons and concerts. The singer Michael Jackson’s story, although unusually brutal and extreme, is illumination when considering musical prodigy(天才). Accounts suggest that he was subjected to cruel beatings and emotional torture ,and that he was humiliated (羞辱) constantly by his father, What sets Jackson’s family apart is that his father used his reign of terror to train his children as musicians and dancers. On top of his extra ability Michael also had more drive. This may have been the result of being the closest of his brothers and sisters to his mother. “He seemed other said of him. She different to me from the other children —special,”Michael’s m may not have realized that treating her son as special may have been part of the reason be became like that. Greed or Greet? The earth has nurtured generations of human beings, offering us with every resource to survive and prosper. Nowadays, with the explosion of population and boom of economy, human’s rel entless exploitation of natural resources has caused crisis of exhaustion of energy and resources. The remark “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” gives out a warning for us all. The ecosystem has remained balanced until man becomes obsessed with their ambition to conquer Nature and they are blinded by greed. On one hand, they are so economy-oriented that they ignore the protection of environment. Increasing pollution not only causes serious problems such as global warming but also could threaten to end human life on our planet. On the other hand, man exploits and abuses non-renewable energy and resources for the sake of developing economy. If man insists on extracting natural resources recklessly, it will be too dreadful to face the consequence. Let us remember that only when we shake off greed and heal the earth can we build a better home for ourselves and our future generations. 1-7 DADAAAB 8 higher 9 the immigrants 10 doing more themselves

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the importance of building trust between business and consumers. You can cite examples to illustrate your views. 150-200 words. Without a doubt, a mutually-trusted relation between businesses and consumers is important for the two parties. First of all, though business is objective, cooperation is relatively subjective. Only when a consumer believe in what a businessman is selling, he or she could decide to buy something from the man. In reality, I have seen too many consumers purchase or refuse one commodity only because they like or dislike the salesman who they meet, especially when they are in a bad mood. Secondly, when one businessman consider that a customer trusts him, he would feel honored and satisfied thereby giving more preference to the customer. Naturally, when one businessman offers the best quality goods and the best prices to a customer, the customer has no excuse to refuse the businessman. Once such relation informed, both the two parties gain profit from it Hence, both businesses and consumers should work together to form a reciprocal relation. PartⅢReading Section A

A Nation That's Losing Its Toolbox The scene inside the Home Depot on Weyman Avenue here would give the old-time American craftsman pause. In Aisle 34 is precut plastic flooring, the glue already in place. In Aisle 26 are prefabricated windows. Stacked near the checkout counters, and as colorful as a Fisher-Price toy, is a not-so-serious-looking power tool: a battery-operated saw-and-drill combination. And if you don't want to do it yourself, head to Aisle 23 or Aisle 35, where a help desk will arrange for an installer. It's all very handy stuff, I guess, a convenient way to be a do-it-yourselfer without being all that good with tools. But at a time when the American factory seems to be a shrinking presence, and when good manufacturing jobs have vanished, perhaps never to return, there is something deeply troubling about this dilution of American craftsmanship. This isn't a lament (伤感) - or not merely a lament - for bygone times. It's a social and cultural issue, as well as an economic one. The Home Depot approach to craftsmanship -

For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. Passage One Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage. In 1985 when a Japan Air Lines (JAL) jet crashed, its president, Yasumoto Takagi, called each victim’s family to apologize, and then promptly resigned. And in 1987, when a subsidiary of Toshiba sole sensitive military technology to the former Soviet Union, the chairman of Toshiba gave up his post. These executive actions, which Toshiba calls “the highest form of apology,”may seem bizarre to US managers. No one at Boeing resigned after the JAL crash, which may have been caused by a faulty Boeing repair. The difference between the two business cultures centers around different definitions of delegation. While US executives give both responsibility and authority to their employees, Japanese executives delegate only authority—the responsibility is still theirs. Although the subsidiary that sold the sensitive technology to the Soviets had its own management, the Toshiba top executives said they “must take personal responsibility for not creating an atmosphere throughout the Toshiba group that would make such activity unthinkable, even in an independently run subsidiary.” Such acceptance of community responsibility is not unique to businesses in Japan. School principals in Japan have resigned when their students committed major crimes after school hours. Even if they do not quit, Japanese executives will often accept primary responsibility in other ways, such as taking the first pay cut when a company gets into financial trouble. Such personal sacrifices, even if they are largely symbolic, help to create the sense of community and employee loyalty that is crucial to the Japanese way of doing business. Harvard Business School professor George Lodge calls the ritual acceptance of blame “almost a feudal (封建的) way of purging (清除) the community of dishonor,”and to some in the United States, such resignations look cowardly. However, in an era in which both business and governmental leaders seem particularly good at evading responsibility, many US managers would probably welcome an infusion (灌输) of the Japanese sense of responsibility, If, for instance,

2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套完整版) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. Whether to Attend a Vocational College or a University? It’s an undisputable truth that virtually all high school graduates will encounter the choices between a vocational college and a university. And when it comes to this question, students’ ideas are not cut from the same cloth. In point of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, my advices are as follow. In the first place, we should be conscious of the fact that both of the two choices have its own superiorities. For instance, a vocational college specializes in cultivating human resources with practical capabilities; while a university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different fields. Then it does follow that high school graduates should have a clear picture of themselves. That is to say, they should know their merits and demerits and their choices must give play to their strengths whilst circumvent weaknesses. In addition, interest is the best teacher and it’s also the premise of learning on one’s own initiative. Thus interest must be taken into account because it can not only decide how far one can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled one will be. In brief, all above just goes to show that there really is no one-size-fits-all answer for the question. The key lies in a clear cognition, accurate self-positioning and the interest of oneself. Only then can every one find a right path that works best for us. Part II Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear two long conversations.
